Winning Strategy for Fluency
Literary Analysis of Diverse Texts
Punto y aparte: Spanish in Review, Moving Toward
Fluency places communication goals at the forefront
of the intermediate Spanish course so students learn
to express themselves with increasing fluency and
accuracy in real-world settings. Therefore, students don’t
just learn about the language, they learn how to use
the language. Proven features support the core goals
of the intermediate Spanish course and put students
on a successful path from simple utterances to more
extensive discourse, from sentence-level to paragraph
length expression.
More than just an anthology, Aproximaciones al estudio
de la literatura hispánica is an introduction to literary
analysis with readings from Spanish and SpanishAmerican literature. Organized by the four genres of
prose, poetry, drama, and the essay, the text provides
a rich and diverse array of reading selections. Each
section is accompanied by an introduction to the genre,
and each reading includes a wealth of exercises that
help students gain an understanding and appreciation of
literature from the Spanish-speaking world.

Inspirational Program Breaks the Mold
Winning Approach
En avant! breaks the mold of traditional French programs
with its integrated approach to authentic culture,
individualized learning plans, and systematic recycling to
inspire students and give them the confidence needed
to develop communicative competence in French. It
engages and inspires students with linguistically and
culturally authentic materials, which enables them to
build confidence and communicative competence.
Your students are changing. Technology is changing.
The idea of the classroom is changing. Now, the
way your students learn French is changing as well!
In preparation for this edition of Deux mondes, we
conducted extensive research, employing a wide array
of research tools including surveys, focus groups, and
ethnographic studies to identify the key goals and
challenges of the Introductory French course. Not
surprisingly, communication and cultural competence
are top goals of the majority of teachers, while they
are simultaneously faced with the challenges of fewer
contact hours, budget cuts, and new course formats.

Build a Solid Foundation
Vis-à-vis: Beginning French engages students with
its unique integration of contemporary culture and
communicative building blocks, providing the tools they
need to build a solid foundation in introductory French.
The new program builds upon the success of the fifth
edition with an expanded emphasis on contemporary
language, pronunciation, culture, and technology to
create a truly communicative, interactive experience.
The diverse features support the core goals of the
introductory French course — communicative and
cultural competence — and lay the groundwork for
student success.

Focus on Communicative Functions
Pause-café: French in Review — Moving Toward Fluency
is designed for the full second year of French study
with emphasis on seven communicative functions:
describing, comparing, narrating in the past, reacting
and recommending, asking questions, talking about
the future, and hypothesizing. These communicative
functions are identified throughout the textbook by
distinctive icons and are recycled in all six chapters.
Although each chapter highlights at least one of the
seven functions, all seven are integrated into the
chapter’s oral and written work. The key grammatical
structures that support these functions, called Points
clés, appear with practice exercises at the back
of the book. Pause-café helps students focus on
communicative functions by continuously recycling
them throughout the text, while the content and themes
change with each new chapter.

Innovative, Film-based Program
Literary Analysis of Diverse Texts
This innovative film-based program is designed to
motivate and inspire intermediate French students.
Based on the French film Le Chemin du retour, Bien
vu, bien dit is a completely integrated program for
intermediate French.
C’est la vie!, A French Reader is a collection of four
original short stories that bring the Francophone world
to life through the experiences of students and young
professionals in France, Guadeloupe, Belgium, and
Canada. Accompanied by activities, the stories are
written specifically for high-beginner and intermediate
learners of French. Each story portrays the characters
in authentic, everyday situations and cultural settings
piquing student interest and offering a glimpse of daily
life in different French-speaking countries. This is meant
to encourage students to read for pleasure in French and
thereby further develop their language skills.
Each chapter of the Bien vu, bien dit textbook correlates
to an episode of the film. The textbook prepares
students for the film-viewing experience through the
chapter vocabulary presentations and activities, and preand post-viewing activities.
