Holiday Service Schedule
Fixed Route, Longboat Key Trolley, and Handy Bus
services are not available on the following holidays:
New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day,
Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. The
Anna Maria Island Trolley operates the same schedule
every day including holidays. The Beach Express
operates on all Sundays and holidays. Fixed Route
and Handy Bus service will end at 3 P.M. and the Anna
Maria Island Trolley and Longboat Key Trolley will end
at 7 P.M. on Christmas Eve. MCAT Administration office
and Sales and Information offices are closed New Year’s
Day, Dr. M.L. King, Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day,
Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day,
Thanksgiving Day, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve,
and Christmas Day.
Manatee County Area Transit (MCAT) serves Bradenton,
Ellenton, Palmetto and the Gulf Beach communities.
Buses run according to a fixed route schedule, Monday –
Saturday. No fixed route service is offered Sunday
(except Beach Express, see pages 34 - 35).
MCAT fixed routes connect with the FREE Anna Maria
Island Trolley. Daily service runs from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
The Trolley runs every 20 minutes from the Anna Maria City
Pier to Coquina Beach from approximately 7:00 a.m. to
9:00 p.m. MCAT fixed routes also connect with the
Longboat Key Trolley. Daily service runs from 5:30 a.m.
to 8:00 p.m. every 60 minutes from Coquina Beach through
St. Armands Circle to downtown Sarasota. MCAT also
offers origin to destination Handy Bus (Paratransit)
service by appointment only for people who qualify due
to disability. Please refer to the Ride Guide - Paratransit
Edition for more information.

proof of age/disability/military veterans/student
status must be provided at point of purchase
(photocopies by mail are acceptable), as well as
presented to the driver upon request. Please Note:
The 1 Day Discount M Card may only be purchased on
the bus, issued from the farebox. You MUST show proof
of eligibility to the driver at the time of purchase. Drivers
are not authorized to sell discount M Cards without seeing
proof of eligibility — NO EXCEPTIONS.

Fare Card Outlets
For those riders that utilize transit services in both
Manatee and Sarasota
counties, MCAT offers a
regional fare card (R Card) for
the benefit of unlimited rides on
both the MCAT and Sarasota
County Area Transit (SCAT)
transit systems. MCAT offers a
discount 30 Day R Card unlimited
ride (see “Discount Fare Eligibility”
on page 6). The 30 calendar
days begin on the first day you
activate your R Card.
Conditions for M Card and R Card Use
M Cards and R Cards are good for unlimited rides during
the time period imprinted on the back of the card. Transfers
are not required when using an M Card or R Card — swipe
your card every time you board an MCAT bus.
M Cards and R Cards are the property of MCAT and are
non-refundable and/or non-replaceable if lost, stolen,
altered, rendered inoperable or destroyed and M Cards are
for transportation on MCAT fixed-route buses only. M Cards
and R Cards are non-transferable. Unauthorized use,
reproduction or sales of M Cards and R Cards subject to
deactivation, confiscation and/or legal prosecution.

park and ride lot with 27 dedicated parking spaces for park
and ride customers.

The Palmetto Station is located on the corner of
Business 41 and 19th Street. The station has a secured
park and ride lot for park and rider customers.

appropriate I.D. M Cards/R Cards purchased with
checks returned for insufficient funds will be deactivated.

How to Ride
Using this Bus Schedule
➊ Start by reviewing the System Map, visit our website at
(www.mymanatee.org/mcat), or map us on Google
Transit to determine if the bus serves the general area
in which you want to travel.
➋ Pick the route you think will get you to your destination.
➌ Select a time point on the schedule nearest your
destination and desired arrival time. Read back to the
nearest time point at which you can board the bus to
learn what time you should be at the bus stop —
arriving at the bus stop 10 minutes early is a good idea.
Note: Times may vary due to road and traffic conditions.
Boarding the Bus
➊ Buses will only stop at designated
bus stops. As a bus approaches the
stop, stand next to the bus stop sign.
Ensure the driver sees you by waving
to the driver, signaling your intention
to board the bus.
➋ If you are unsure about the bus'
destination, ask the driver before you board.
➌ Have exact fare ready (U.S. coins and currency only)
or use an M Card or R Card transit pass; or you will receive
a change card. Please let the driver know in advance
if you are purchasing a 1 Day pass.
➍ If you are visually impaired, or need help identifying
your stop please inform the driver as you enter the bus,
so that the driver may announce your stop and ensure
your exit at the proper time. It is helpful to sit toward the
front of the bus if you need assistance.
Using M Cards/R Cards
M Cards have a magnetic stripe on the back that is read
when Swiped on the farebox. Whether a 1, 7 or 31

purpose,
all cards
conveniently print the active
dates on the back of the pass.
Activate your M Card or R Card the first time you use
it by inserting it into the card slot on the top left side
of the farebox. Remember to retrieve your pass
before you take a seat. Thereafter, simply swipe your
M Card or R Card through the vertical slot on the
right side of the farebox to record your fare. Your
M Card or R Card will no longer work after the
expiration time and date printed on the back of your
fare card. See “Conditions for M Card/R Card Use”
on page 6.
Bike Racks on Buses/Trolleys
Loading
the rack. Lower the rack located in the front of the bus. Lift
slot is labeled for front and rear wheels. If only one bike is
being loaded, put it in the position nearest the bus. Swing
the bike support arm up and into position over the front
wheel and as far back as possible. Make sure the support
arm is resting on the tire and not on the frame or fender.
A spring pulls the arm back and holds the bike securely.
Wheelchair Accessible
All MCAT buses and Trolleys are equipped with
wheelchair lifts or ramps to accommodate persons who
cannot board using the steps. When the bus arrives at the
bus stop, follow the driver’s instructions. Once inside, the driver
will assist you with securing your wheelchair and safety belts.
Discuss your destination with the bus driver who will assist
you when leaving the bus or trolley.
Unloading
Notify the bus operator that you are going to remove your
bike and exit through the front door of the bus. From the
curb side, remove the bike by releasing the support arm
from the front tire, then lift bike out of rack. Return the
rack to its upright position.

Security
All Manatee County Area Transit vehicles and facilities are
monitored by MCAT, 24 hours 7 days a week using
electronic surveillance system and security personnel.

Rider Responsibilities
•

MCAT Passenger Behavior Policy
To provide a quiet, comfortable transportation service,
all passengers are expected to comply with certain rules.
Failure to follow these rules may result in the police being
called, the passenger being asked to leave the bus or bus
stop area, and/or the passenger receiving a trespass order
from the bus or bus stop area. Refusing to leave the bus or
bus stop area when asked makes the person subject to
arrest for trespass pursuant to Florida Statute § 810.08.
Shirts and shoes are required on all vehicles.
Service animals assisting special needs passengers are
allowed on MCAT buses. Pets small enough to be carried
and secured in either a cage/carrier designed for transporting animals or in a closed container are also welcome
on MCAT buses. Animals must remain in their closed,
secure cage/carrier/container while on-board the bus.
Please do not distract the driver for everyone’s safety.

Stroller Policy:
When boarding and de-boarding a stroller, the passenger
has the option of leaving the child in the stroller. If a
passenger requests it, the driver will operate the lift to
allow the passenger with a stroller to board more easily.
The child may remain in the stroller provided that the
passenger maintains control of the stroller at all times,
keeping at least one hand on the stroller while the bus is
moving and the stroller doesn’t pose a safety hazard
to any passenger. In no case is the stroller to be allowed
to remain in a position which blocks aisles, doors, steps
or emergency exits. The brakes should be set so that the
baby stroller will be secured.

Appeal Procedures
Any individual receiving a trespass order or directed to
leave an MCAT bus or a bus stop area may, within three
(3) business days following the trespass order or direction
Manager. The appeal must state why the trespass order
or direction to leave was not in accordance with this
Policy. Once an appeal is received, a hearing will be
scheduled within two business days and conducted
within a reasonable timeframe. At the hearing, the
individual may present his/her testimony and evidence
supporting the appeal and the Transit Division may also
provide testimony and evidence regarding the appeal.
After the hearing, the Transit Division Manager or his/her
designee will provide a written response to the individual,
granting or denying the appeal with explanation. The
individual may dispute the determination of the Transit
Division Manager or his designee by requesting a
meeting with the Manatee County Public Works
determination which shall be communicated to the Transit
Division and the individual making the appeal.
Accommodation Requests Regarding Disabilities
An individual MCAT customer seeking a reasonable
accommodation of a disability may direct such requests
to the Transit Division Manager or his designee.
Lost and Found Items
MCAT is not responsible for lost and found items.
Every effort will be made to return lost and found items
to their owner after MCAT has been notified. Uncolleted
items will be disposed of after a period of max. 90 days
at the discretion of MCAT. Hazardous or unsanitary
items will be disposed of immediately. Illegal items will
be turned over to law enforcement. Contact MCAT lost
