Special Sections in the
Dining Commons
Along with items on our menu, we also have
two special sections in each dining commons
which is dedicated to special diets. The
Vegetarian Living Cooler is stocked with vegan
items that are a great compliment to any meal.
The Gluten Free Station has its own toaster
oven and microwave so that Gluten Free items
can be prepared in an area that is free of
gluten.
Entrée Cards
Penn State Campus Dining uses many
informational cards to identify the item, list
nutrition information as well as common
allergies. However, the allergen information
is only listed if the item contains that allergen
as an ingredient. It does not take into
consideration the fact that it may contain
an allergen due to the facility is was made
in or the way in which it was produced.
Therefore, it is imperative to use the menus
provided, and not rely solely on the entré cards
for allergen information.

Food Allergies and
Intolerances
If you have a food allergy, intolerance, or
special condition and are living on campus, it
may seem incredibly overwhelming trying to
navigate the dining commons. Here at Penn
State, we try to make it as easy as possible for
you to dine with us safely.
If you know you are going to be in a time
crunch for a meal and want it ready when you
get there, you can use the call ahead option:
•
Name
For assistance and to gain further insight into
eating on campus, please contact Marissa
Bird, the Registered Dietitian at University
Park and identify yourself and the allergies or
conditions that you may have. She will also
be happy to answer any specific questions
or concerns to help you adjust to eating on
campus.

Our Student Nutrition Assistants (SNAs) will
then get to work putting a packet of menus
together for you. The menus will be catered
to your allergies and the dining commons that
you will most likely frequent. They will send all
of this information to you via email, so that you
can have access to the menus wherever you
go!
Throughout the semester, the SNAs will keep
in touch with you to make sure that you don’t
have any questions or concerns about dining
with us. Your feedback will be utilized to adjust
and improve the program so that we may better
assist you and other students in the future.
