Creating an EBSCOhost account and placing a hold on an eBook The following instructions will demonstrate how to create an EBSCOhost account and how to place a hold on an EBSCOhost eBook which is currently in use. Log-in to the EBSCOhost eBooks Collection service at http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?authtype=ip,shib&profile=ehost&defaultdb=nlebk using your UCLan network username and password if you are off the University campus. To place a hold on an EBSCOhost eBook which is currently in use, you must first create an EBSCOhost personal account. If you already have an account you must Sign In to place a hold on a book. Existing EBSCOhost Account Holders 1. Click Sign In 2. Once signed in with your EBSCOhost username and password you will be able to place holds on eBooks 3. Once the item is available for you to view, you will receive a confirmation email from Ebsco to your specified email account Creating an Ebsco Account 1. Click Sign In followed by Create a new account 2. Complete the form and click Save changes 3. The message Your account has been created will be displayed. Click Continue to go back to the search screen and to place any holds on items 4. Make a note of the username and password you have chosen as you will need these to log-in to place holds on items Placing a Hold 1. EBSCOhost eBooks are only available to view by one user at any one time 2. To place a hold on an eBook you must first sign in to your EBSCOhost account as detailed above 3. If the eBook is being viewed by another user the message will be displayed Sorry, this eBook is currently in use, you are offered the option to Place Hold, the message will also display how many users are currently in the hold queue 4. Once the item becomes available you will receive a notification to the email address displayed on screen 5.
