ISSUE 02 JAN 2014 TExESTimes this issue Test Taking Tips 2013-2014 Exam Changes P.1 1.) Have a good breakfast, but skip the coffee!! You don’t want to spend your 15 minutes of break-time running to the restroom! 2.) Print your admission ticket the day before your test to ensure there are no problems. TExES Review Materials P.2 ETS Test Schedule P.3 Practice Exam Dates P.4 GENERALIST EC-6 and 4-8 EXAM CHANGES TEA has announced that the release date for the new Generalist EC-6 (291) and Generalist 4-8 (211) exams has been pushed back to January 2015. Originally scheduled for a release of August 2014, TEA has reconsidered its decision for candidates to pass with an 80% or higher on each domain, and is instead working with Educational Testing Services (ETS) to develop a new process of evaluation. for that exam. All requirements for those using the current Generalist EC6 or 4-8 exams (coursework, student teaching, state certification exams, application for certification, finger printing and payment of applicable fees) must be completed by August 31, 2017. Students must be recommended for certification by October 30, 2017 or will become responsible for the new Generalist exam. 5.) Leave your cell phone in the car!! Cell phones and other electronic devices are not allowed in the testing center at any time. When the new exam hits in 2015, candidates will be able to retain the passing scores on domains they have made 80% or higher, and will only be required to retake sections on which they did not successfully obtain 80%. More information on this process will be shared as it comes available. 6.) Check center policies for food and drinks for break-time snacks. Some centers may provide a locker for your personal belongings and snack items. The current Generalist EC-6 (191) and Generalist 4-8 (111) exams will be administered through August 2015. Any student who passes the current version of the Generalist EC-6 or 4-8 exam will have two years to use the passing score The combined Bilingual Generalist EC6 (192) and ESL Generalist EC-6 (193) examinations will now be administered through August 2015 as well. Students will have the same deadlines as stated above to complete certification requirements. Current and former Bilingual and ESL Generalist students may still opt to separate their certification exams into the Generalist EC-6 and corresponding Supplemental exam. Please contact the TExES Advising Office for more information on test separation, and be aware of certification requirements! 3.) Bring a valid ID (drivers license or passport) to the testing center. Your name must match on your ID and your admission ticket! If they do not match, you will be turned away! 4.) Arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled exam time. This will give you ample time to get checked in at the center and ready yourself for testing. Also, many centers will turn you away if you are late, and there are no refunds!! 1 1 ContinuousAdministered Exams Bilingual Education Supplemental (164) Bilingual Generalist EC-6 (192) English as a Second Language Supplemental (154) English Language Arts & Reading 4-8 (117) Generalist EC-6 (191) Generalist 4-8 (111) Health EC-12 (157) History 8-12 (133) History 7-12 (233) Life Science 8-12 (138) Life Science 7-12 (238) Mathematics 4-8 (115) Mathematics 8-12 (135) Mathematics 7-12 (235) Music EC-12 (177) PPR EC-12 (160) Physical Education EC-12 (158) Principal (068) Science 4-8 (116) Science 8-12 (136) Science 7-12 (236) Social Studies 4-8 (118) Social Studies 8-12 (132) Social Studies 7-12 (232) Special Education EC-12 (161) It is advised that you schedule your exam as far in advance as possible.
