Third Sunday of Easter

April 19, 2015
SAVORING THE EXPERIENCE
One of the wonderful things about vacations is
the time we spend two or three weeks afterward
savoring the experience, sharing vacation photos and
memories with our family and friends. This kind of
reflection puts us back in touch with the original
experience and reminds us of the relaxation and
wonder the vacation afforded us. Today, on the
Third Sunday of Easter, the Church blesses us with
reminders of what we celebrated two Sundays ago.
All three readings are reflections on the meaning of
the death and resurrection of Christ. One of the
threads running through these reflections is that the
purpose of the Lord’s suffering, death, and
resurrection was to save us, to forgive our sins. We
are given fifty days to ponder this reality—fifty days
to savor the experience of Christ’s dying and rising
for us.

Dear Parishioners,
I think it is safe to say that the winter is finally over and we can put our shovels away.
There certainly was extra expense for snow melt, the plowing and the overtime as well as the stress
but spring is thankfully here.
Springtime always brings a sense of birth and renewal and for us in the Northern Hemisphere it
also also means Eastertime and the rebirth of our faith. I hope your Easter season has given you a new
burst of awareness of God’s goodness to us even in the face of the cross.
We will have our annual Ministry Day on this coming Saturday beginning with the 8:30 am mass.
While the invitation is extended to all the liturgical ministers, the day (really one half a day) is open to
anyone who is interested in deepening his/her sense of service and involvement in our parish or in the
parishes of our deanery.
The guest speaker will be Father John Harrington the retired pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Astoria.
I’ve known and admired Father for my entire priesthood since my first summer assignment to
Catholic University in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Father has served as the Spanish priest in several parishes
and has also served in our Diocesan Mission in the Dominican Republic. He brings a wealth of
experience to his presentation on Saturday. All are welcome to mass, light breakfast in the cafeteria
and the presentation in the auditorium. The day will put a spring in your step.
Let’s pray for each other
