• INASP responds to national priorities of
emerging and developing countries for:
– access to national and international
scholarly information and knowledge
– capacities to use, create, manage and
communicate scholarly information and
knowledge via appropriate ICTs
– national, regional and international cooperation, networking and knowledge
exchange
Projects and Activities
• AuthorAID@INASP. Provides support to
researchers in developing countries to
communicate their work more effectively
and visibly
• Bandwidth Management and
Optimization. Provides training and
materials on bandwidth management and
capacity building
• INASP was established in 1992 by the
International Council for Science and was
registered as a UK charity in 2004.
• It is based in Oxford and governed by an
International Board of Trustees.
• It is run with a small number of full-time
staff working with, and through, partners
and networks in over one hundred
countries.
• INASP's work is funded by its partner
countries, governmental and nongovernmental development agencies, and
philanthropic foundations.
Projects and Activities
• Journals Online (JOL) Projects. Provides
advice to journals wishing to publish online
to increase worldwide knowledge of
indigenous scholarship.
• LATINDEX Collaboration. During 2006,
INASP collaborated with Latindex to
support capacity building within the Latin
American academic publishing community

• Online Health Information Access and
Use: Intensive National-Level Health
Sector Capacity Development and
Training. A joint national-level, intensive,
capacity development and training
programme by HSPH, INASP and INFORM
that provides access and use for health sector
librarians, researchers and professionals
within Vietnamese universities with health
focused programmes and research activities.

Information (PERii). Supports research sector
capacity building by strengthening the
production, access and dissemination of
information and knowledge.
• PERii: Evidence Information Policy
Making. Builds capacity of policy makers to

develop and enhance ICT skills and
implementation through training and other
resources
• Programme for the Enhancement of Research

initiative of ACU and INASP. Provides a forum
for focusing on the importance of access to
information for development
• Small Grants Scheme. Provides support for
new and innovative ways to best meet the
increasing demand and challenges faced in
creating, sharing and improving access to
information and electronic resources.
• Training Activities and Materials. Provides
access to details of training workshops and
associated materials

Is the Philippines a Participating
Country of INASP?
• YES, the Philippines is a network country.
• INASP uses the United Nations Human
Development Index (HDI) and the World
Bank Gross National Income (GNI) to
identify eligible countries and divide them
into partner countries and network
countries. The decision about a country's
eligibility changes as the country's HDI and
GNI changes. These are reviewed every
November.

Lanka (Sljol), and Vietnam (Vjol).

Statistics
From July 1 to December 31, 2009 there have
been 180,000 visits to the philjol site
The top three sources for visitors were: The
Philippines
(105,641 visits from 42 cities), USA (9,363
visits from 1,839 cities) and India (3,073
visits from 81 cities).
At the end of December 2009, there were 123
issues and 1,165 articles of which 890 were
full text (76%).
