The National Capital Chapter of ASHRAE
President’s Corner
Happy New Year!!
The chapter just finished
holding our winter social,
the 7th Annual Winter
Party, at the Hotel
Monaco in Alexandria,
VA. Thank you to all of
the companies who
sponsored tables at this festive event.
I’m also happy to announce some of our
many upcoming 2013 events.
Approaching quickly, January 26th -30th, is
the ASHRAE Societies’ Annual Winter
Conference and joint AHRI Expo in Dallas,
Texas. I encourage you to make your final
reservations if you plan to attend the
conference. The conference will include
technical programs and seminars, as well as
many ASHRAE Society committee
meetings. The Region III dinner will be on
Sunday, January 27th. Please contact Gary
Debes, the Region III RVC–Membership
Promotions for more information.
I invite you to attend our next educational
chapter meeting on Wednesday, February
13th. This joint IBPSA meeting will include
our PES on hi-efficiency data centers and
our dinner meeting will be on energy
modeling. As usual, we will be at the
Hilton Arlington, near the Ballston metro
3
station. Thank you to all of our members
who register on-line and ahead of time for
our PES and dinner meetings to help our
registration process go more smoothly.
Please save the date, Saturday, February 16th,
2013 for the annual Discover Engineering
Family Day, at the National Building
Museum in Washington, DC. This great
community outreach event inspires students
to study engineering and includes lots of
hands-on activities. Patti and Luis will be
hosting our ASHRAE-NCC tables this year
and we will be looking for many volunteers,
(engineers and non-engineers welcome). I’m
happy to have been part of our chapter’s first
ever ASHRAE-NCC booth in 2003 and to
have helped to continue this 10-year
tradition. http://www.engineeringfamilyday
.org/.
Finally, our chapter will also be hosting a
social event involving both our current and
future Young-Engineers-in-ASHRAE (YEA)
in late February, so stay tuned for more
information.
I would like to wish you a happy and
prosperous new year in 2013!
Thank you,
Stephanie Mages
