For nearly 25 years Rope, an international
development charity, has been working
through a network of Christian partners
to bring Christ’s love, hope and dignity to
disadvantaged people in impoverished
communities around the world. Our
projects are tailored to meet the needs
of local people and cover a wide range
of issues. With Rope, a small amount can
make a significant difference. Lifeline is our
alternative Christmas gift scheme, perfect
for friends and family who you know would
want to make someone else feel valued this
Christmas. We hope you will be inspired
to buy one of our Lifeline gifts and help
transform a life this Christmas. All these gifts
can be ordered through this catalogue or
online at www.rope.org.uk
£3: CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR CHILDREN IN MONGOLIA
Impoverished communities on the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar face long harsh winters with no
running water or sanitation. Their children suffer from respiratory diseases due to air pollution and
inadequate heating. Our partners, among other things, run two pre-schools which provide a warm
place to learn, play and receive a nutritious meal. At Christmas, families are too poor to celebrate
with their children so our partners organise a party bringing joy and warmth.
£3 will ensure that two children receive a gift at their Christmas celebrations.
£7: UNIFORM AND BOOKS FOR CHILDREN IN PAKISTAN
Our partners in Gilgit, northern Pakistan are seeking to provide education for children in very rural
communities. Many villagers were initially suspicious of “outsiders” so starting schools has taken
time and patience. However, barriers have been broken down and now 500 boys and girls have
become the first in their family to go to school.
£7 will pay for a child’s school uniform and their books for a whole year.
£10: BLANKETS FOR WIDOWS IN INDIA
For many years our partners in India have supported widows who often live on the margins of
society. Some of these women are elderly, sick or disabled and are unable to support themselves.
This year Rope will join with our partners to provide a gift and a meal for widows in villages across
the region where they work. This is a great way to show love to women who are used to being
uncared for and this gift has become a highlight for them.
£10 will provide two widows with a blanket this Christmas.
£20: CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS FOR CHILDREN IN NEPAL
This year has been exceptionally difficult for children in Nepal. With two earthquakes and many
hundreds of aftershocks, children are left traumatised, struggling to return to a “normal” life. Rope
supports 29 children in two children’s homes in Kathmandu and in the coming year we want
important occasions such as birthdays and Christmas to be extra special. This Lifeline gift is a small
way of showing that we continue to stand by them.
£20 will help a child to celebrate Christmas and other special occasions during the year.
£35: COMMUNITY TRAINING FOR PEOPLE IN KENYA
Our partners work in farming communities in Kimilili, western Kenya. Village life is tough and many
have fallen out of the habit of supporting themselves and others in their community, choosing
to rely on external aid. This has led to many vulnerable people being forgotten. Our partners are
inspiring local people to seek out and support the most frail in their villages. Widows, fatherless
children and those with disabilities are being cared for.
£35 will help five local people learn how to rebuild their community.
£50: FEEDING A SYRIAN REFUGEE FAMILY THIS WINTER
Rope is supporting 50 families from Syria who live in a refugee camp in Lebanon. Unable to
return home due to the ongoing violence in their country or to secure long-term employment in
Lebanon, they now live a life in limbo. Many have faced harsh winters in a camp they don’t call
home. Each month, Rope provides families with essential food and medical supplies and enables
our partners to share the love of Jesus with people who feel rejected and unwanted.
£50 will ensure a family receives much needed food and medical supplies during this winter.
£150: VILLAGE WELL IN CAMBODIA
Each year our partners not only bring fresh water to remote village communities, but also health
education so that families understand how to care for themselves. This holistic programme
provides life skills training on hygiene and sanitation and how to prevent diseases such as
diarrhoea and typhoid. As one recent beneficiary testifies, “Before the well, we used unclean water
contaminated with cow and human manure. Now we have a new well and have learnt how to
build and use latrines.”
£150 will bring water and health education training to a remote village community.
£300: TRAIN A PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER IN GHANA
Our partners run a primary school in northern Ghana, where 80% of people are unable to read.
Typically, village schools are overcrowded and teaching standards are low. Our partners seek
to create a model school and see training their teachers to a high standard as a vital part of this
process. This investment is already bearing fruit, as one pupil testifies, “When I started school I
found it difficult, especially maths. But my teacher was kind and taught us very well. Now I find
maths easy, it is my favourite subject.”
£300 will provide a year’s training for a primary school teacher at the school.
£750: LIFE CHANGING SURGERY FOR CHILDREN IN KENYA
Dreamland Mission Hospital in western Kenya is providing life changing corrective surgery for
children born with the club foot disability. Often these children are simply unable to attend school
as they cannot walk and are shunned by the wider community as their disability is seen as a curse.
They are condemned to a life of dependency and disadvantage as their parents, often subsistence
farmers, can’t afford to pay for treatment. Through this transformational surgery, children are able
to walk, run and play for the very first time in their lives.
£750 will enable three children to have life changing surgery.

Bringing Christ’s love and
warmth this Christmas
Our partners work with two ‘Ger’ communities on the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Gers are
circular waterproofed wood and fabric constructions that are, essentially, one step up from a tent.
These communities are extremely poor and they face winters that are long and extremely harsh.
Due to air pollution, many children suffer from respiratory problems which are further exacerbated
by the families not being able to heat their homes adequately.
Our partners work with many in this community and
aim to serve the Lord by touching the lives of the most
deprived. Part of their work involves running two preschools, which seek to be warm and welcoming places
for very young children. All are given a daily nutritious
meal along with a multi -vitamin tablet. For many, this
will be the only meal they will receive for the whole day.
The harshness of daily life for these children and their
families cannot be underestimated. Daina lost his father
and his mother is forced to work in the countryside
to provide for the family. He lives with his other siblings, some of whom are still at school. Daina
attends the pre-school and our partners try to help the family by providing coal and food.
Every year on Christmas Day our partners organise a party for over 450 children. They prepare gifts
for each child, including sweets, which are often the only gift they will receive. This is a great family
occasion and all the children are encouraged to join in the nativity play and perform a song. This
really is a time for Christ’s love and warmth to be felt by these children.
