Why our schools need
a Foundation.
Dear Supporters,
I continue to be amazed by the incredibly generous school district families,
local businesses and community members that year-after-year support the
Lake Oswego School Foundation’s efforts. Each year the success of the
Foundation’s annual campaign and growth in its Endowment Fund greatly
impacts our district’s ability to deliver a world-class public education for all
our students.
Last year, through your donations and hard work, our supporting
community raised $1.4 million for the Foundation. Through these
donations, we were able to continue supporting our teachers and
educators and provide the high quality, individualized instruction the
schools in our district are known for. Your contributions put 16 additional
teaching positions in the district we would not otherwise have had.
Since the passage of Measure 5 in 1990, education dollars have no longer
been controlled locally, and revenue to all public school districts in
Oregon has been distributed at the state level on a per-student basis. This
means our District currently only receives about 80% of its revenue from
state funds, which vary from year-to-year.
The Foundation plays a critical role in bridging this funding gap by
providing the District with a significant percentage of its revenue. Without
the Foundation, we would have far fewer teachers. This would translate
into fewer electives, fewer advanced placement courses and much less
individual attention for each student.
With major state education funding challenges on the horizon, the time
for action is now. Oregon ranks below the national average for state and
local revenues dedicated to public education, and far below the national
average for federal funding. Whether you are a school captain, volunteer,
board member or donor, your participation is critical to upholding the
tradition of excellence we have in our Lake Oswego schools.
Today, our students receive a world class education. This is evidenced by
the unique range of elective course offerings in our schools, our stateleading SAT scores and the prestigious universities our graduates are
admitted to each year. Our extracurricular programs in music, athletics, art,
theater, science and other fields are also among the best in the state. Your
continued support is critical to maintaining this level of excellence now
and in the future.

ABOUT OUR ENDOWMENT

The Lake Oswego Schools Foundation’s Endowment was established to
provide a basis for sustained and stable school funding that looks beyond
the annual campaign. The income generated from the Endowment helps
fund teaching positions at our schools. The Endowment is managed by OCF,
a statewide nonprofit organization that administers permanent charitable
