GENERALSESSIONS
Persons of Interest
Unlike the popular television show, Persons of Interest, we do not have a machine that can analyze billions of seemingly
unrelated bits of information to predict impending acts of violence. This presentation will explain the difficulty in identifying and appropriately managing potential perpetrators of mass violence incidents. We will also review some of the key
indicators that threat assessment professionals consider. Finally, we will emphasize the importance of reporting concerning behaviors to a central location, such as the OTC Behavioral Intervention Team, in order to maximize our chances to identify and properly manage potential threats. Effective Use of Educational Technologies
Technology for teaching can often create excitement upon adoption but then eventually be set back on the shelf. The
problem is that often the technology is not being used effectively. The educator may actually cause issues in their students’ learning because of the ineffective use of an educational technology. There is no need for fancy new gizmos or
gadgets…. unless of course it is productive. This session is a presentation and discussion on the effective use of educational technology that we already have at our fingertips. Facilitator: Carolyn Brockman. To reserve a seat in a

If You Have to Prove You Are in Charge – You Aren’t
There are many different, yet valid, ways to manage a classroom. In this session, we will transition from classroom management to classroom leadership. We will do this in an interactive fashion where participants will take on the role of students in my class. Then we will discuss it. We might even conclude that different management styles work better for
different teachers. Different theories of management will be provided, but the bulk of the session will be interactive with
the participants. Facilitator: Jacob Lewellen. To reserve a seat in a session, please contact profdev@otc.edu.

Teaching Triangles
A teaching triangle is a group of three faculty who commit to providing a respectful, safe, mutually supportive environment in which they learn from each other’s teaching. Participants participate in a brief training orientation, observe at
least one class taught by each triangle team member, and then gather for a reflective conversation focused on what they
have learned about their own teaching from the observation process. If you would like to participate in a Teaching Triangle during the FA15 semester, please email profdev@otc.edu. We’ll take care of building the triangles and facilitating
meeting times that work for all triangle members.

Conflict Resolution
The emphasis for this module is to provide the leader with the knowledge to be proactive and to recognize potential
conflicts before they escalate. The approach used is to teach leaders to understand the personality preferences of their
employees and to observe their actions and reactions for possible variances from normal behavior. This provides the
leader the knowledge to know when to intervene and what approach is best for the individuals involved.
