Dear MU Parents,
Family and Friends,
Parents and Families,
We are so excited to welcome you to
the tradition of MU Family Weekend!
Now that your student is four weeks into
the fall semester, this is the perfect time
to visit and truly see campus through
their eyes. In planning the events for
this weekend, one theme consistently
came to mind—the Mizzou student
experience. The best way to showcase
this unique place is to bring you into the
areas where our students eat, live and
study, where they exercise, get involved,
get motivated and where they relax.
Walk around campus and get a feel for
how your student spends their day.
Welcome to fall at Mizzou! We are pleased
that you have joined us for Family Weekend
2010, and have scheduled a variety of
activities designed especially for you and
your student to enjoy together--attending a
college open house, enjoying the outdoor
concert on Lowry Mall, cheering on the
Tigers at various athletic events, and
simply walking through the campus to get
a closer look at your student’s MU home.
Visit the New Student Center, state of the
art Recreation Complex and eat lunch in a
dining hall. Meet our Chancellor and First
Lady as they open their home Saturday
morning. Get to know downtown and
more about our Columbia community. I’ll
be looking for you at breakfast before you
head out of town on Sunday. Through
it all, I hope you will take an opportunity
to meet other MU parents and students,
and share stories of this special place.
Colleagues from every aspect of campus
have been involved in creating a schedule
that has “something for everyone.”
Whether you are a parent of a freshman or
a senior, your first MU student or your last,
we want you to enjoy everything about the
University of Missouri this weekend. Look
to our volunteers to help you navigate
campus and answer any questions. Most
of all, enjoy connecting with your student—
we couldn’t be more proud of them.
We know parent and family support is a
key component of student success, and
our relationship with you is an important
one. This weekend, I encourage you
to get to know the Office of Parent
Relations. They will be happy to answer
any questions you may have and will
be an excellent resource for you during
your student’s time at the University.
Let’s work together to help your student
be successful inside and outside of the
classroom. Welcome to the Mizzou family!
Be sure to keep in touch throughout
the year. We love hearing from you.
Enjoy your weekend
and Go Tigers!
Sincerely,
Laura A. Page

If You Are Hosting Your Own Tailgate
Many families and fans choose to have
their own tailgate in one of the surrounding
parking lots or garages. If you are planning
to host your own pre-game experience,
be sure to have your favorite snacks and
beverages. Keep in mind that no kegs or
bulk quantities of alcohol are allowed in
vehicles or anywhere near the stadium.
Remember that University alcohol policies
are still in place, and it is illegal for anyone
under 21 to consume alcohol. Barbecue grills
are allowed in parking lots but not in garages.
Be Safe!
Make sure you don’t leave valuables
in plain sight in your vehicle. If
you bring a purse or bag, it will be
searched as you enter the stadium.
Restrooms
Temporary restrooms are provided in
designated parking areas. Stadium
restrooms that open to both the concourse
and parking areas will be switched from
outside access to inside access one
hour prior to game time. Baby changing
stations are available in most restrooms
except inside gate 6E and 6W.
How Do I Get To the Stadium
From My Tailgate or Parking?
Walk! The stadium is just west of the
Hearnes Center. Follow the directions
of the police officers who are directing
traffic. Be sure to look at the signs
above the gates to see which entrance
is closest to your seat. Gates will open
90 minutes before game time.
Ticketing Procedures
Gates to Memorial Stadium will open
90 minutes prior to kickoff. All persons
attending must have a ticket (as a courtesy,
children age two and under are admitted
at no charge, provided they do not take
up a seat). Reserved ticket locations are
identified by a single letter (West Side),

Expect Game Day Traffic
All Residence Halls Will Be Locked
Allow plenty of time to get to the stadium.
Typically, roads and parking lots are
crowded on game days, so plan some
extra time for traffic delays. Plan some
extra time for parking as well. Many
lots and garages are available around
campus for free or a small fee. As you
head toward your tailgate, make sure to
follow directions of those people directing
traffic. Only cross at designated spots.
If you need to get into a residence hall, be
sure to take your student with you. All halls
will be locked all weekend and will require
a Student ID of a resident for entrance.
What Not To Bring
Memorial Stadium does not allow
umbrellas, strollers, coolers, video
cameras, pets, outside food or drink,
weapons, or backpacks. Please leave
these items at home or in your car.

What To Wear
Gold! The athletic department at Mizzou
encourages all fans to wear gold to all
games. You can get some great black and
gold Mizzou gear at the MU Bookstore
on Friday for 25% off or at the Tiger
Team Store on Game Day. Make sure
you have your sunscreen. You might
also consider bringing a rain poncho.

Faurot Field/Memorial Stadium is the
center of Tiger football. The traditional
block “M,” arranged by the freshman
class of 1927, guards the stadium’s
north end zone. In the 1950s, a group of
pranksters changed the “M” to an “N”
the night before the Missouri-Nebraska
game. The MU groundskeeper, with the
help of some young boys who gained
free admission to the game in exchange
for their assistance, restored the “M” to
its proper form before kickoff. Seating
capacity is listed at just more than 68,000.
Parents are an integral part of the
Mizzou family. The university recognizes
the critical role you play and strives to
create a positive partnership with you.
Marching Mizzou, also known as the “Big
‘M’ of the Midwest,” is one of the most
visible ensembles in the School of Music
and is the largest student organization
on campus. Composed of students from
nearly every major within the university,
this time-honored organization combines
quality musicianship, spirit, pride and
dedication to create their nationally
renowned gridiron excitement.
EVERY TRUE SON LYRICS
Every true son, so happy hearted,
Skies above us are blue.
There’s a spirit so deep within us,
Old Missouri, here’s to you! (Rah! Rah!)
When the band plays the Tiger war song,
And when the fray is through,
We will tramp, tramp, tramp
around the columns
With a cheer for old Mizzou!
Hit it!
Hooray! Hurrah! Mizzou! Mizzou!
Hooray! Hurrah! Mizzou! Mizzou!
Hooray! Hurrah! And a
Bully for Ol’ Mizzou!
Rah rah rah rah!
Mizzou-Rah! Mizzou-Rah!

Mizzou’s Mascot
Mizzou became known as the Fighting
Tigers as a tribute to a group of Columbia
citizens who defended the town from
Guerilla fighters in the 1890s. Although
the Bengal tiger mascot has been around
for years, he was not officially named
Truman until 1986. Truman’s name was
chosen as boy students as a nod to the
only Missouri-bred U.S. President.
FIGHT TIGERS LYRICS
Fight, Tiger, fight for Old Mizzou.
Right behind you everyone is with you.
Break the line and follow
down the field.
And you’ll be, on the top, up on the top!
Fight, Tiger, you will always win.
Proudly keep the colors flying skyward.
In the end you’ll win the victory,
So, Tigers fight for Old Mizzou!

CULTURAL OFFERINGS
Columbia residents are enthusiastic
patrons of the arts. The “We Always

The District and Tri-Campus areas
are home to many artists, several of
whom open their studios to the public.
Downtown galleries and shops offer
handcrafted designs; three galleries

of American Craft. The North Village
Arts District is becoming populated
with many one of a kind galleries
and art-related entrepreneurs.
FOOD AND SPIRITS IN COLUMBIA
Known as The District (www.

vibrant downtown is a re-not-so-squareblock area offering culinary experiences
that include boutiques with an olive oil
tasting bar, a chocolatier, organic and
ethnic grocers, as well as numerous
chef-owned and entrepreneurial
restaurants. Contemporary American

friends and enjoy a cup with some
delicious pastries. Other dining districts
are located on Columbia’s “south

a variety of experiences: fine dining,
wine-tasting, casual wine and picnic
basket style dining with a spectacular
bluff-top view of the Missouri River.
FESTIVALS
Columbia’s active lifestyle includes
a number of high quality festivals
throughout the year. The festival
season kicks off in March with the
