Introduc on
The journey of a thousand
miles begins with one step…
Welcome to the first step of your new adventure!
It is exci ng to embark on your university journey.
Our aim is to help you se le into university life. Hence,
we have planned your Orienta on in such a way that it
equips you with the informa on that you will need to
prepare for classes. We have organised sessions that will
give you the opportunity to find out more about your
lecturers, the learning process that you will par cipate
in and how it may be different from your previous
learning experiences. You will find out about extra‐
curricular ac vi es that are available and familiarize
yourself with your new surroundings. The Orienta on
denotes the official start of the university year, so your
a endance is compulsory.
What should you expect?
Each Orienta on session is tailor‐made to cater to your
academic and social needs as well as your welfare. We
will introduce you to our student support services, the
library and compu ng facili es. We will also brief you on
important health and safety measures while on campus.
You will learn how you can sign up for your unique
computer access account, tutorials and lab sessions. We
urge you to take advantage of your Orienta on to
ensure that you are well‐informed and fully equipped
for your exci ng journey ahead.

Welcome Message
Welcome Message from
The Vice‐Chancellor
I am delighted to welcome you to Sunway University. We
aim to provide you with a high quality educa on to enable
you to achieve your personal aspira ons and goals in life.
Our academic awards have been carefully developed to fit
you for the world of work in your chosen field and to give
you the personal confidence to succeed and inspire others.
The University is proud of its “excellent” ra ng (5 stars) in
the na onal SETARA ra ng system. This means you can
have confidence in the quality of the teaching that you will
experience and also that your learning will be well sup‐
ported. Many of our
degrees are validated by Lancaster University in the UK,
which is one of the UK’s best research universi es. Gradu‐
ates from the validated programmes will receive two de‐
gree cer ficates: one from Sunway University and one
from Lancaster University –a global top 1% university con‐
sistently ranked highly in both interna onal and UK higher
educa on league tables. At Sunway we are proud to be a
partner of such a dis nguished academic ins tu on. In the
hospitality and tourism field, we partner with another
excellent world class organiza on, Le Cordon Bleu, the
renowned Paris based culinary and hospitality educa on
ins tu on.
You will almost certainly find that learning at university
level is different from what you have experienced before.
Much more will depend on your own personal ini a ve
and mo va on. To succeed well, you need to take respon‐
sibility for your own
learning and to take full advantage of the support that is
offered to you. What you get out will depend on how
much effort you put in, so do make wise use of your me
as a mature learner. You have been selected for admis‐
sion because the University believes you have the ability
and talent to do well and we want to enable you to
achieve your maximum poten al.
I wish you every success with your studies, and I look for‐
ward to seeing you at your gradua on!
Professor Graeme Wilkinson,
DPhil (Oxford), FRSA, FBCS
