Indiana State University College of Health and Human Services School of Nursing Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) Policy and Procedures Purpose: To establish congruent policy and procedures related to ATI assessment in both Baccalaureate Nursing and Baccalaureate Nursing Completion tracks within the College of Nursing, Health and Human Services. Policy: The following documentation provides specific instructions, guidance and policy regarding ATI practice, content mastery and RN comprehensive predictor examinations within all tracks of the Baccalaureate Nursing Program at Indiana State University. Section I. 1st ATI Practice Examination Requirements RN CMS 2013 Proctored Assessment Fundamentals of Nursing Adult Medical-Surgical Nursing Nursing Leadership Nursing Pharmacology Mental Health Nursing Nutrition for Nursing Community Health Nursing NCLEX RN Comprehensive Level 2 Cut Score 63.3% 68.9% 76.7% 71.7% 66.7% 66.7% 74.0% 72.0% 1. Prior to taking the first proctored examination (content mastery and RN comprehensive predictor), students are required to complete an ATI practice examination without rationales (version B) for their specified proctored examination. 2. Students are permitted to take the proctored examinations when they achieve each course equivalent minimum level 2 cut score (see chart above) on the practice examination (the student may take the practice examination multiple times without penalty to achieve the required individual score). 3. Students are encouraged to use their required course textbooks, lectures, and ATI materials in order to remediate while completing practice examinations. If the equivalent level 2 score is not achieved on the practice exam; the student will not be granted access to the proctored content mastery or RN predictor exam. 4. Focused reviews following practice examinations are strongly encouraged for additional preparation for content mastery and RN predictor examinations. 5. The Testing Coordinator or designee will verify that the student has achieved the practice examination requirements prior to the scheduled date for the proctored ATI examination. Verification of ATI practice exam requirements and codes are released for the proctored examination directly to the designated ATI proctor. Section II. 2nd ATI Practice Examination Requirements 1. If a second proctored examination is required (content mastery and RN comprehensive predictor), students are required to complete an ATI practice examination without rationales (version A) for their specified proctored examination. (See Section III.) If the second proctored examination is not attempted, zero points will be awarded. 2. Students are permitted to take the second attempt of their proctored examinations when they achieve a course equivalent minimum level 2 cut score (see chart above) on the practice examination (the student may take the practice examination multiple times to achieve the required individual score) and have demonstrated at a minimum three hours of focused review. Section III. Content Mastery Examinations Requirements Level 3 2 1 Less than Level 1 1st ATI Exam (10% of Course Points) 100% of points 85% of points must retake must retake 2nd ATI Exam (10% of Course Points) 75% of points 75% of points 50% of points 0% of points 1. Level 2 is the Institutional Benchmark for passing all Proctored Content Mastery examinations. 2. The proctored ATI Content Mastery Series exams will count as 10% total of the course grade. Section IV. 1st RN Comprehensive Predictor Examination 1. The RN Comprehensive Predictor examination is required for all pre-RN licensure students. 2. The examination will count as 30% of the course grade in the nursing course in which the RN Comprehensive Predictor Examination is administered. Points will be determined based on the RN Comprehensive Predictor Expectancy Table. 3. Prior to both the 1st and 2nd attempt, students must satisfy the ATI Practice Examination Requirements with the RN Comprehensive Predictor Practice Examination. 4. Students are required to meet the benchmark of 94% predicted probability for this examination to be eligible to receive an official transcript verifying that the BS degree has been awarded or an official certificate verifying completion of an accredited nursing program. Documentation of completion of the program and degree requirements must be submitted with application for state licensure. RN Comprehensive Predictor Expectancy Table Predicted Probability 1st ATI Exam 2nd ATI Exam 99% 100% of points 75% of points 98% 100% of points 75% of points 96%-97% 85% of points 75% of points 94%-95% 85% of points 75% of points Less than 94% 0 points 5. After two attempts, students achieving a score that indicates <94% probability of passing NCLEX-RN will: a. Earn an (IN) incomplete in the nursing course in which the RN Comprehensive Predictor Examination is administered. b. Not be allowed to graduate. c. Will remain an incomplete until the student successfully retakes the ATI RN Comprehensive Predictor the following semester. If the student is unsuccessful on the ATI RN Comprehensive Predictor during the two attempts in the following semester, the course grade will be based on the course syllabus. The points on the third and fourth attempt on the ATI RN Comprehensive Predictor will be awarded on the same basis as the second attempt on the Comprehensive Predictor Examination the previous semester. 6. If this is the student’s first nursing course failure, the student will be allowed to enroll in the nursing course in which the RN Comprehensive Predictor Examination is administered. If this is the student’s second nursing course failure, the student will be dismissed from the major in accordance with the Department’s dismissal policy. The dismissal policy will be upheld by the faculty and administration. Section V. Utilization of Data for Curricular Improvement 1. Faculty in the courses where ATI testing is placed throughout the Baccalaureate Degree Nursing Program will access aggregate reports of student performance for their respective courses. For exams that test content covered in multiple courses, faculty should share the report with other relevant course faculty. The data will then be used for course improvement. 2. Aggregate reports will be available to the department and Executive Director of Nursing. Aggregate data may be used as the basis for course and/or other curricular changes.
