Spring Newsletter #8
If you find yourself having trouble figuring out your schedule, are not sure what classes to take
or need general advice, come on in and meet with a Peer Adviser. We are experts in
scheduling, resolving class conflicts and are full of good advice.
The Animal Science Advising Center is open M-F 9am-12pm and 1-4pm in 1202 Meyer.

1. Spring 2012 Awards BBQ!
 Join us for the Animal Science Department’s Spring Awards BBQ!
 The Spring BBQ will be on Tuesday, June 5th at 5:30pm at Putah Creek Lodge.
 No RSVP required! Free food along with an awards ceremony!
2. ANG 107 is Major AND Class Restricted
 In order to sign up for the course you must be an Animal Science major and have completed 135
units, not counting your current Spring 2012 classes.
o If you will be graduating before Fall 2013, but do not yet have 135 units completed you
will need to wait until grades are released and sign up for ANG 107 during your Pass 2
appointment.

3. Commencement Reception – June 17th, Graduating Seniors Please RSVP by
June 7th
 The Animal Science Department is hosting a Commencement Reception immediately following
the June 17th 2pm Ceremony.
 Refreshments will be served.
 Mingle with various faculty and staff who have helped you along the way.
 Please RSVP by June 7th by emailing asac@ucdavis.edu.

4. ANS 98: Basic Principles in Animal Science (3) – Summer Session I
 Learn about important livestock species and companion animals. Explore production systems as
well as anatomy and physiology. Topics include animal research, welfare, genetics,
biotechnology, reproduction, and health. No prerequisites!
 CRN: 50170, MWF 10-11:40am in Wellman 230.

5. ANS 198: Current Issues in Animal Science (3) – Summer Session II
 Course will cover current and controversial issues such as animal agriculture, economic impact,
livestock and companion animal issues, biotechnologies and climate interactions.
 CRN: 73633, TR 11am-1:30pm in 1338 Meyer Hall.

6. AVS 103 (198): Avian Development and Genomics (3)
 Ever wondered how the egg is produced? Or why the avian genome is so small yet has so many
chromosomes? This course covers that and more!
 This course is offered Fall 2012 and is lettered graded.
 CRN: 14456, TR 4:10-5:25pm in Meyer Hall 1338. You will need to change the variable units
from 1 to 3 in sisweb.

1. NUTRITION RESEARCH STUDIES – Summer 2012
 Most studies are conducted by the USDA, ARS Western Human Nutrition Research Center on
the UC Davis campus.
 Participation can be an interesting and educational experience. WHNRC invites healthy adults
who have flexibility in class, work or personal schedules to participate in study visits.
