Advanced Settings
New for 2012, I am adopting the use of an underscore (_) to start the folder name of asset and image
folders. This has the effect of moving these folders to the top of the folder list. As they are used rather
often it is a convenience to have them listed at the top of the Dreamweaver Files panel.

URL Information
Your web site Uniform Resource Locator (URL) is will be:
http://soma.sbcc.edu/YourPipelineUsername/
Where YourPipelineUsername is your SBCC Pipeline Username.
Troubleshooting Your Connection
The following should now be your guide for resolving student authentication issues. You should give
most of this information to your students before they attempt to use our web server for the first time.
Confirm Student Directory Exists
Before a student attempts to authenticate to the web server, they should confirm their home directory
actually exists by using a web browser.
Example: http://soma.sbcc.edu/YourPipelineUsername
If a student folder exists without any default content, the response is: 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied.

If a folder does not exist, the response is: 404 - File or directory not found.

404 Resolution Step 1: Verify that the URL was typed in correctly.
404 Resolution Step 2: Ask the instructor for support if step 1 fails to resolve the issue.
Resolving Authentication Issues
If a student cannot authenticate against our server, 99% of the time that Pipeline account failed to
properly synchronize between Pipeline and Active Directory. This also results in the account being
unable to logon to any desktop computer or file server on campus (Xythos does not count).
1) Confirm the server, path, and authentication information being used are accurate.
a) Failing to logon 5 times or more due to an incorrect password will lockout the account within
Active Directory.
i) Lockout takes 15 minutes to reset.
ii) Repeated login failures with an incorrect password during lockout resets the lockout timer
back to 15 minutes.
iii) During account lockout, pipeline web based services will still work, but direct desktop or
server logins will fail.
2) Reset the pipeline accounts password.
a) The password must not be identical to the existing password.
b) The password must contain 8-15 alphanumeric characters.
c) The password must not contain the following symbols (database limitation): @ #
i) There may be other symbols that could fail which we are unaware of.
3) Wait 20 minutes, and then attempt to use the service that was failing again.
a) If the password change does not work within 20 minutes, the synchronization has failed again.
Normally this process takes less than 15 minutes.
The second solution may take between 1-5 business days for resolution: If the first solution fails, the
class instructor should e-mail both DAC ICLC’s with a list of all pipeline accounts having issues, and then
we will forward it to both the Campus IT Helpdesk and the person within Campus IT who can fix these
issues.
Alternate Connection Method - WebDAV
The SoMA student hosting server also supports WebDAV as a connection and file transfer protocol. This
is a Microsoft protocol and has a slower transfer rate than the FTP connection. This can be used when
the FTP connection does not work.
1) Click on the Basic option, and then complete the fields in the following way. In all cases below,
replace YourPipelineUsername with your SBCC Pipeline Username.
