Induction Training of Newly Recruited SSS Sept./Oct, 2013 Training Report Executive Summary Government of the Punjab is focusing on the capacity building of public school teachers to improve the quality of education. In order to pursue the educational goals set by the Punjab Government, The Directorate of Staff Development, arranged four weeks induction training of Senior Subject Specialists ( 9th September to 4th October ,2013). The purpose of the training was to enhance the pedagogical skills and content delivery of the newly recruited officers before joining. To achieve this objective, training sessions were organized on Chief Minster’s Education Reforms Road Map, New Initiatives of the Punjab Government, functioning of public schools, content, rules and regulation ,teaching methodologies, modern teaching techniques, lesson planning (in their own subjects) and assessment procedures. Different methods have been exploited for the training of newly recruited Senior Subject Specialist including, group and pair work, panel discussions , presentations and syndicate work . Study tours were also arranged followed by report writing, in order to provide them awareness about how the study tours are beneficial and important, and how these can be exploited for the better understanding of the students. Keeping in view the initiatives of the government and the importance of English Language, training sessions were organized on spoken English, ETTE programme which not only covers the spoken aspect of language but also comprise different teaching methodologies and strategies. After the successful completion of the training, it is expected that the participants will be able to perform their duties in confident manner as they are better equipped with knowledge and skills required for delivery of the content. The course content was largely appreciated by the participants for covering important areas. A majority of the participants gave positive feedback regarding group activities and content. Purpose and Need of Training: The purpose of the training was to equip the newly recruited SSS with new methodologies and teaching strategies. It also aims to bring about an attitudinal change in them to ensure their working is more scientific, objective, transparent, responsive, accountable and participatory. 1 Directorate of Staff Development, Punjab Induction Training of Newly Recruited SSS Sept./Oct, 2013 Subjects and Number of Trainees For this training 37 participants were referred by the Government of the Punjab and 36 continued the training. The detail of the trainees as per subject is given below: i) English - 20 ii) Biology- 10 iii) Physics -04 iv) Computer Sciences- 02 Training Norms The participants were orientated to observe the following training norms: • abide by the code of conduct issued by the Government and follow the instructions given by this directorate • be regular and punctual (no late coming or early departure was allowed) • participate in all the academic and other allied activities • switch off their mobile phones during the training sessions • submit all the assignments on time • show due courtesy to permanent and visiting faculty, their colleagues and the staff • show tolerance to different views and opinions of each other • observe dress code • comply with the hostel rules and mess norms during dining Daily Schedule Session I II III IV V Time 08:00-09:30 09:30-11:00 11:30-1:00 02:00-03:30 04:00-06:30 Tea Break 11:00-11:30 Lunch Break 01:00-02:00 Sports 04:00-06:30 Conduct of Training: • A presenter from the class for daily report about the presentations by the resource persons was selected • The class incharge (directing staff) was responsible to place “Discipline and Conduct Rules” at proper location in the classroom and its application in letter and spirit, availability of attendance sheets, introduce resource person properly, moderate 2 Directorate of Staff Development, Punjab Induction Training of Newly Recruited SSS Sept./Oct, 2013 question answer session to avoid wastage of time and ensure dignity of resource person, regulate break timing, ensure proper conduct of observer, ensure compilation of attendance and observation report on daily basis. They were given some topics for brain storming after the group discussion and mutual understanding; they decided to work on the following topics: 1. 2. Awareness of Child Rights Role of Education in Combating Terrorism The said topics were given to the participants to research, collect information and prepare a power point presentation and also submit the hard copy. Pilot Secondary Schools. The trainees took part in Badminton, Cricket, Shot-put Throw and Athletics. Prize & Certificate Distribution to the Winner of Games Study Tours The study tours were arranged for the participants. The trainees showed a raise of 10-50 % in their marks. Directing Staff Observation The main parameters of the observation are regularity / punctuality, observance of class rules and norms, participation, attitude towards colleagues RP’s and DSD Staff and the percentage of the trainees are in the range of 8.50 – 10 marks out of 10. Syndicate Evaluation The main parameters are communication skills, readiness and alertness, group participation, confidence, relevance of topic and report writing. • • Evaluation of Participants: The participants were evaluated throughout the training by QA wing. Mr. Ehsan Bhutta, Programme Director, Mr. Syed Bilal Haider, Additional Programme Director and Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Saqib, Course Coordinator, Training-I distributed the certificates and prizes among the participants. The Programme Director concluded the ceremony by appreciating the enthusiastic participation of the trainees to make this training a success. He also wished them good luck for their future life. Distribution of Certificate & Medals on Closing Ceremony Recommendations The following are the recommendations given by the participants: • The visits to the scientifically and technically advanced instituation.may be arranged. • The condition of the cafeteria and the food may be improved. • The setting of the training rooms may be changed for group work activities. • The time allocated to different subject areas may be revised. • Computer facility may be provided in the hostel. 8 Directorate of Staff Development, Punjab
