PRO MUSIC & CONCERT SOUND
Englisch
1945 - until now
Music has long been recognised as one of the best ways to entertain and distract people from the cares of everyday life. Engineer
Werner Pinternagel would have been well aware of this when in
1945 he founded a radio repair workshop in the Bavarian town of
Pilsting.
Indeed, the Thuringia-born and raised visionary was busy from
the outset, which prompted him to expand his horizons and test
out new theories. Within a year, Pinternagel started to experiment
with amplifier engineering - which makes the company one of the
world’s oldest designing manufacturers in this market segment.
Early results were the KI cinema amplifier offering an output
capacity of 25 watts. Providing work for just four employees, the
company meanwhile moved to Landau and their appliances
carried the trademark "Dynaphon".
In 1948 the growing number of customers bought the first portable
mixing amplifiers, which by then already carried the name DYNACORD. This brand - a combination of the syllables "Dyna" (from
"dynamic") and "cord" (building the link to musicality) - quickly turned
out to be prophetic. Within just a few years, the rapidly expanding
company became one of the world’s leading enterprises in the still
young field of audio electronics engineering.
which includes many milestones in the history of professional
audio gear, here are some of our worldwide recognised innovations.
• "Echocord"
(at that time theultimate reverb and delay unit, 1959)
• "Bassking" (the style-coining bass amp, 1963)
• "Eminent" (the legendary mixing amp, 1962)
• "Echocord-Mini"
(built in the years 1966 – 1980, sold over 26,000 times)
• "Gigant" (high-performance mixing amplifier)
• DRS 78
(gold medal for the stereo reverberation system, ‘78)
• DRP 20
(top-class digital 32-bit floating point reverberation
system)
• ADD One (Advanced Digital Drums)
In 1954 the handicraft company had been transformed into a
small industrial enterprise, which showed its high-performance,
trend-setting and often visionary products at every international
fair of importance, a move which enabled Dynacord to establish
a significant export market from the outset.
• P- and Xa-Systeme
(Plug & Play, Processor Controlled Audio Systems)
• PowerMate (1997, sold over 65,000 times by far)
In order to satisfy the increasing demand, DYNACORD moved to
Straubing in 1958. At that time, the company employed 80
people, and was growing rapidly. In 1986, after reconstructing
and expanding the company premises several times over the
years, DYNACORD moved in at their new headquarters where
today more than 500 employees work in R&D, production and
worldwide distribution of our products.
• COBRA
(2002, the first stackable Compact Line Array System)
Looking into the company’s reference archives reveals that virtually every top-selling artist or act wanted to perform with the
legendary "Sound by DYNACORD": Tom Jones, Donovan,
James Last, ... (the list goes on and on). They all celebrated their
greatest successes using DYNACORD-equipment. Representing
the immense repertoire of the rapidly growing array of products,
• PowerH, RCM-26
• The new PowerMate-2 (2004, sold over 18,000 times by
far)
• D-Lite 2000 System, Xa 2 System, CMS Mixer (2005)
• VariLine
Innovation up to the highest degree, a distinct amount of userfriendliness and the meanwhile proverbial dependability define the
Quality made in Germany
Why do many customers stick with DYNACORD?
• Next to outstanding quality, one good reason is the extraordinary reliability
of our products.
• Prerequisite therefore are the process-accompanying quality measures,
which, next to the production flow also span over a product’s entire life-cycle.
All in all, quality and dependability are already implanted during the design
and development of a device.
• Quality-assurance starts as early as in the stage of development, where
“thermal stability”, “circuit security“ and quality requirements, like the acoustic
performance, are being evaluated and intrinsic functions of the product are
meticulously tested for being defined in the design.
Simulating the later use of our products under varying climatic conditions for
instance, is arranged employing advanced air conditioning technology.
• The further the development of a new product proceeds,
the more rigorous becomes testing.
Comprehensive production-accompanying examination, which is executed on inspection stations that are specifically designed for batch testing, ensure that variation from
specified designs is impossible.
Our design and development team keeps up a continuous dialog with our specialized
manufacturer of test equipment to achieve the highest possible degree of effective realisation in building these inspection stations.
All of this and the sum of additional quality assuring measures lead to the fact that our
products offer the dependability and consequential low failure rate that the trademark
“Quality – Made in Germany” is a synonym for until today.

compact mixing systems
The new CMS 1000, CMS 1600 and CMS 2200 Compact
Mixing Systems from DYNACORD are conceived as allin-one solutions, easily transported and swiftly made
ready for use. For the first time, customers are being
offered a unit combining a substantial-in-features, yet
superb-in-sound quality mixer with professional quality,
digital studio effects devices, graphic equalizers and a
multitude of other problem-solvers- Ease of operation
the basic user will appreciate, and the responsiveness a
discerning professional demands.
The CMS 1000 / CMS 1600 / CMS 2200 represent the
ideal ‘complete solution’ for driving active loudspeaker
systems as well as all possible combinations of power
amplifiers and loudspeaker enclosures. Typical applications range from live music situations to the rental busischools, and professional multimedia installs.
Mixer Section
The discrete microphone preamps in the input channels
offering audio quality of the very finest, a 60 dB gain range,
and extremely low levels of noise and THD, set new standards in professional mixing equipment, whilst phantom
power (switchable in groups of six channels), 3-band semiparametric EQs with sweepable mids, 4 Aux Sends, PFL and
Mute, dust-protected ALPS faders, 2 x 7-band graphic EQs,
two feedback filters and four stereo line channels are only a
few of the professional features.
Effect Section
Two independently controllable, 24/48 bit stereo digital
effects devices offer a total of 198 presets optimized for live
use but delivering studio quality. The room and plate reverb,
echo reverb, chorus reverb, mono / stereo delay and a host
of other special effects are easily selected using the
Up/Down keys. Preferred presets can be stored in programming
mode and are then instantly available the next time you
switch the CMS on. One global (or else two individual) foot
switch(es) can be used to turn the effects devices on and off
singly (or collectively).
Mic / Line
All six and twelve (respectively) mic inputs of the CMS 1000
and CMS 1600 are equipped with XLR (Mic) and jack (Line)
sockets as well as a common Gain control with a range of 60 dB.
This makes it possible to introduce even line level signals
through the XLR Mic inputs.
An channel break allows you to connect additional devices,
such as compressors and gates, on a channel-by-channel
basis using the Insert sockets. A switchable Lo Cut filter
permits the elimination of low frequency noise in the sub80 Hz region. The 3-band tone controls section comprises
a semi-parametric equalizer with a sweepable Mid, the
range of which is 100 Hz to 8 kHz. The Lo shelving EQ has
its 3 dB down point (corner frequency) at 60 Hz, whilst that
of the Hi shelving EQ is 12 kHz, the boost/cut being +/- 15 dB
in each case. In all, four aux busses are provided to permit
you to ply the two internal effects devices with signals independently as well as two separately controllable monitor
busses. AUX 1 and AUX 2 control the level of the post-fader
signal sent to the two internal effects devices, FX 1 and FX 2.
AUX 3 and AUX 4 are set pre-fader to allow the creation of
independent monitor mixes, but can be switched post-fader,
if preferred, for the control of additional effects devices in the
sum.
All channels offer MUTE and PFL switches as well as level
control meters with Signal Present and Peak LEDs. Ultra
high-quality ALPS faders control the Volume of the individual
channels and are remarkable for their extremely high attenuation values.

Master Section
In the sum, all the control elements are laid out
clearly in sections, in a configuration based on
practical experience. The Return level of the integrated effects devices (FX 1 and FX 2), the Send level
for AUX 3 and AUX 4, as well as the Stereo Master,
are all implemented as faders. The 2 x 7-band graphic equalizer can be switched instantly between
the Master and AUX 3 + AUX 4. Separate AUX 1
and AUX 2 Send controls allow the control of additional effects devices — parallel to the internal effects
or solo.
Systems for neighbouring rooms, side fills or even
active subwoofers can be driven via the separately
controllable Mono Out, which can be switched preor post-fader. There is a useful Standby switch for
programme pauses that does not affect the 2-track
Return path, allowing material on tape or CD to be
routed to the master or else AUX 3 and AUX 4. All
the XLR outputs are electronically balanced and
wired in such a way that operation via relay is not
accompanied by clicks and pops.
Graphic Equalizer
If there is no need for EQ in the master section for the main system or
room equalization, the integrated 2 x 7-band graphic equalizer can be
looped into the monitor busses at the push of a button, making it available
to AUX 3 and AUX 4 for the provision of an optimized foldback mix.
LEDs indicate clearly the current selection.
Feedback Filter
AUX 3 and AUX 4 are equipped with a switchable Anti-Feedback filter
in the master, offering continuous control from 80 Hz to 7.7 kHz. In the
event that less-than-ideal microphone placements or excessive
volume levels provoke feedback, it can be zapped swiftly and with
laser-like precision.
Vocal Voicing Filter
This filter, which can be switched into the signal path of any of the
Mic/Line channels, is designed to rescue particularly ‘thin’ voices
from the main mix. An asymmetric filter structure deliberately
emphasizes the fundamentals in the vocals and lifts them transparently into the foreground through decent shelving. This type of
‘fundamental equalization’ cannot be produced with any standard

DSP 244
I
digital signal processor
48-bit algorithms, 24-bit AD/DA conversion and a dynamic range surpassing 115 dB make the DSP 244 a
benchmark for digital loudspeaker controllers and
processors.
Universal Toolbox
Its 2-in-4-design and a dynamic range that exceeds 115dB,
the DSP 244 is the ideal controller and manager in any active
2-, 3- or 4-way audio system installation. The freely configurable routing allows assigning a single input or the summed
signal of both inputs to each of the 4 outputs.
Together with its extensive filtering capabilities, which can
also be applied to the input signals, the DSP 244 represents
the convincing toolbox for the classical management of any
loudspeaker system set-up. Whether in theatres or concert
halls and no matter if used in mobile or fixed installations,
the DSP 244 represents always the optimum solution.
Comprehensive Signal Processing
Each input signal can be affected by 5 EQ filters that can be
individually utilized as parametric EQs, Lo/Hi-shelving EQs
or Lo/Hi-Cuts. It is possible to divide and assign the maximum overall delay time of 5.4 sec. to either input signal, the
summed signal or to all 4 outputs.
Each output provides separate Hi- and Lo-Pass filters, offering the choice between the following characteristics:
Linkwitz-Riley, Butterworth or Bessel filters (6, 12, 18, 24
dB/oct. slope). Each output channel offers 4 additional fil-
ters, which can be configured as parametric EQs, Lo/Hishelving EQs, Lo/Hi-Cuts but also as All-Pass filters. Next to
matching output level and polarity, each output is controlled
by a compressor/ limiter with editable threshold, attack and
release times.
Reliable Operation
Comprehensive controls and a large scale graphic display
(120 x 32 dots) ensure convenient editing and control over
all parameters. The status LEDs in each output continuously
indicate the momentary configuration of the corresponding
channel (sub, low, mid, hi or full range). Backlit muting switches,
convenient rotary controls and a 5-segment LED-chain allow
”hardware-based“ controlling the outputs. In addition to the
50 Dynacord loudspeaker system configuration presets, it is
possible to store 30 user presets. The DSP244’s locking function offers convenient protection against unallowed operation.
Optional Extensions
The DSP 244 comes with RS-232 and a complete MIDIinterface. The latter allows linking up to sixteen DSP244s
and to easily save and load presets. The RS-232 interface
provides the possibility to remote control and configure the
DSP 244 via supplied PC editing software program
(WIN95/98/NT/WIN2K).
Additionally, these interfaces also allow installing new software and presets. Optionally available for retrofitting are a
RS-485 interface or control inputs which allow to remotely
control program changes and mute commands.

CrossMax
I
controller software
The CrossMax software is a unique audio tool for creating
DSP 244 preset configurations, offering clear graphic
indication of all utilized filter, delay and level parameters
and additionally allows integrating acoustic frequency
and phase responses for the controlled DYNACORD
loudspeaker system per output.
These “sheer” component values result from DYNACORD’s
own freefield measurements, without any room acoustics
influence. CrossMax calculates the complex sum of the actual
filter, level and delay parameters in relation to the original
speaker data.
Thus, not only that the filter parameters are presented on the
screen, but, for the first time ever in realtime, the acoustic
frequency response of the controlled speaker system is also
displayed; any minor change in a filter’s or delay’s setting
becomes instantly visible and audible. Even though the desired combination is not included, being one of the 50 factory
presets, loudspeaker presets are of course available for any
current DYNACORD speaker system.
CrossMax – a network for controlling 124 outputs. In combination with the RS-485 option, the CrossMax also allows
controlling and monitoring complex, large scale loudspeaker
systems. Next to displaying all parameters and the frequency response of a DYNACORD speaker system, input and
output levels plus compressor and limiter thresholds of all
DSP244s are indicated in realtime as well – total control of
up to 124 controller outputs.
Block Diagram Indication
Most editable DSP 244 parameters are clearly displayed in
a block diagram. Following the input level indication are five
individual filters per input, which can be used as Hi- or Lo-
16
signal processors
Network / Configuration
Pass (6dB/12dB-Peaking), Hi- or Lo-Shelving (6/12dBLPN), or fully parametric EQs.
The Master-Delay offers delay times till up to 900 ms. The
summed signal of the two inputs is handled as virtual third
input and has its own delay time setting. The flexible routing
allows assigning any input signal, including the sum signal to
each output. Four filters are provided for each output.
A selectable All-Pass filter for matching group delay times
that occur with overlapping frequency bands complements
the filters of the Master-EQ.
Following the crossovers (Hi- and Lo-Pass filters per output,
each) and the output delay is a discrete compressor and a
limiter for changing the audio signal’s dynamic, which provides additional overload protection for the connected loudspeaker components.
Output level indication is provided in realtime – equivalent to
the editor – while level control and mute function complete
the user interface.
Clearly Structured Configuration
Next to versatility, it is especially the easy and reliable handling that is vital for a software product’s success.
In network operation (RS-485), the user can choose from
two screen modes. Live mode provides display of all units
with their relevant level indication. Output levels and mute
function can be adjusted, likewise to the functionality that an
appliance installed in a siderack shelf would offer. All other
functions, like altering parameters or loading different presets are only available in the password protected "Set-Up"
mode.
Channel EQ‘s
Placement
Speaker SPL
To be able to display the sonic frequency response of the entire system,
allocating the data records (phase and frequency response) of the connected
speaker systems to their individual outputs is necessary.
On a similar page it is also possible to assign the data for the employed
DYNACORD power amps. CrossMax displays the actual sonic performance
of a loudspeaker system in realtime, without characteristic spatial influence
and in dependence to all used DSP 244 parameters. This indication is exclusively provided for DYNACORD speaker systems, offering a unique way to be
one hundred percent sure of optimally using the digital filters.
Filter Functions
Clear and comprehensive display of filter function per output channel including master and channel EQs is provided. The resolution can be changed
from +/- 12 dB to +/- 24 dB or +/- 48 dB. Displaying phase and frequency
responses and fading out loudspeaker outputs that are not included in the
overall system is also possible. Adding the sonic data of loudspeaker systems
and power amps to the electrical transfer function reveals the sound system’s
actual sonic performance. Any parameter change is immediately visible and
audible, while spatial independence represents the major advantage of
display mode.
CrossMax
controller software
CrossMax is the only editor software that is capable of displaying the frequency
response of a DYNACORD speaker system in realtime – exactly the way, the
system would behave in the freefield. Any parameter change, like volume, filters, or delay times is immediately indicated: even complex set-ups can be
easily accomplished. Fine adjustments “on the spot” are mostly reduced to
+/- 1dB for each frequency band.
Placement Function
The CrossMax Placement Window offers additional assistance to determine
the optimum positioning. All CrossMax data refers to a speaker’s centre of the
front grille. Different from the real frequency and phase indication, in this case
a spherical radiation pattern of low frequency sonic signals is presumed.
Moving the “listener’s head” on the loudspeaker system axis results in the
display of the heard frequency response at that position. Display of the level
distribution for frequencies up to 150 Hz and depending on the actual speaker
position is additionally possible.

'PowerMax' – an x-over function that produces noticeably
more punch in the crossover frequency range, especially
useful for systems combining small-sized fullrange cabinets with a subwoofer.
Meeting the highest requirements of modern audio applications is only possible when using active multi component
loudspeaker systems which provide the possibility to separately amplify and reproduce the audio signal’s individual
frequency ranges.
Active 2-way installations with additional subwoofer systems
probably offer the best price/performance ratio. The low
frequency range of the audio signal is reproduced by the
subwoofers while high-quality fullrange cabinets take care of
the Mid/Hi frequencies and vocals. Meeting the highest

PowerH Series
I
hi-end remote controllable power amplifiers
A new chapter in the history of professional high-performance power amplifiers has begun.
cannot be overcome, even by modern designs, and the
result is an un-wanted discoloration of the output signal.
The PowerH power amplifier series represents another
milestone in the 60-year pro audio tradition of
Dynacord. DYNACORD has long been established
world-wide as a manufacturer of professional power
amplifiers of the highest quality and has consolidated
its position at the top end of the market through many
innovations and a reputation for absolute reliability.
Electro-Voice has played a substantial role in this as a
sister company to Dynacord, and as one of its largest
OEM-customers.
For years, power amplifiers from Dynacord / EV have
been used in large and very large audio systems –
whether installed or touring – all over the world. Today
there are literally thousands of amplifiers made by
Dynacord powering major productions in all four-corners
of the globe and demonstrating time and again their
superlative quality and legendary reliability.
Linear push-pull designs with Class-H topology are acceptable
solutions for output levels up to 1500 W / 4 and are used in
many Dynacord power amplifiers. The limitation of the ClassH push-pull approach is the 250 V specification of typical audio
power transistors and their second breakdown restrictions.
Even exceeding the specified peak voltage or the second
breakdown limit for a short period leads directly to failure of
the power transistors and the power amplifier. The use of
exotic 350V-specified transistors presents no reliable solution in view of their second breakdown behaviour, their performance and also their availability.
The requirements imposed upon modern power amplifiers
are enormous: they are expected to combine very high
power, minimal weight, outstanding audio performance,
absolute reliability, remote monitoring and control, and networking.
In order to realize power levels of 2500 W / 4 , power amplifiers
must be able to supply peak output voltages between 180 V
and 200 V. This requirement limits the number of plausible
topologies to two:
Class D and Dynacord's Linear Grounded Bridge Class-H.
After extensive research, the Dynacord engineering department decided against the use of Class D designs: the
besetting evils of Class D technology – primarily, distortion
and a clear load-dependence in the frequency response –
20
power amplifiers
Higher power classes require different solutions! Dynacord's
Linear Grounded Bridge designs (e.g. L 2400/P3000) have
proven extremely reliable over many years as well as outstanding in terms of audio performance. One of the key
advantages of Grounded Bridge solutions is the considerable
reduction in 'voltage stress' for the power transistors. This
permits the design of high-power power amplifiers with peak
output voltages in excess even of 200 V. A logical step in the
direction of lowering power dissipation while increasing the
output power at the same time was the development of a linear Grounded Bridge topology using Class-H technology
with a multi-stage switching, floating power supply. The use
of an extremely stable switching power supply makes a decisive contribution to the very low weight of these power
amplifiers: 7 kW packed into 2 rack-spaces and weighing less
than 15 kg!
PowerH power amplifiers are ready for integration into IRISNet™-based audio systems and networks. Retrofittable
remote control modules, e.g. the RCM-26, make possible
complete system supervision and remote control combined
with digital controller functions including ultra-precise FIR
filters and optimised loudspeaker protection algorithms
PowerH power amplifiers leave nothing to be desired in the way of connectors. For the inputs, XLR
IN/parallel OUT sockets are provided along with
additional Phoenix connectors.
The input sensitivity is selectable between 0 dBu,
35 dB and 32 dB Constant Gain. In addition, there
are switches for bridged operation and parallel / dual
as well and, naturally, a Ground Lift switch. A latching
PowerCon connector is provided for the mains
power line, which prevents the plug being yanked
out accidentally.
The power outputs are implemented as Speakon
sockets with parallel binding posts. In terms of
connectivity, therefore, PowerH power amplifiers
satisfy all the demands of both mobile applications
and pro audio fixed installations.

The power amplifiers of the PowerH series represent a milestone in the design and production of
high-performance power amplifiers.
Their innovative multistage grounded bridge class H
topology and the floating power supply are major
reasons for the stable high output and high efficiency despite the surprisingly low weight. They are the
ideal high performance drives for professional touring, high-end concert and pro sound applications.
Through the use of IRIS-Net™-compatible remote
control modules, they also offer extensive remote
supervision and control functions as well as a universal two-channel digital controller including ultraprecise FIR filtering and digital loudspeaker protection
algorithms.
power amplifiers
21
Dynacord power amplifiers are known for their absolute
reliability under the most arduous of conditions on the road.
In addition to the legendary manufacturing quality that
comes with the 'Made in Germany' label, the comprehensive
set of protective circuits plays an important role here: an
integrated micro-controller coordinates proven protections
against short-circuit, HF or DC at the output, back EMF,
overheating and open-circuit operation, the power-up current limitation and dynamic audio limiters, as well as making
additional new and highly intelligent protective functions
possible: for example, the temperature in the power amplifiers
is monitored at no fewer than six different points and the
front-to-rear ventilators controlled accordingly.
Under abnormal thermal 'worst case' conditions, the CPU
activates a voltage limiter or gain reduction depending upon
the requirements of the situation, so as to prevent a thermal
shutdown of the power amplifiers. All corrective measures
are indicated on the front panel and spelt out clearly on the
liquid crystal display. In addition, a report is created making
it possible to enquire later as to all such 'interventions', each
of which is time-stamped.
The mains voltage is monitored and displayed continuously,
with the devices adapting automatically to 230 V, for example,
or 120 V. At the same time, the mains current consumption
is also monitored and displayed. The user can adjust, via the
front panel display, the threshold value of the automatic
circuit breakers. In the event of possibly overloading the
mains, the amount of amplification is reduced to prevent the
circuit breakers tripping.
Any short-circuits at the output of the power amplifier are
detected early on, even at low levels. The protective circuit
is activated and the error report in question appears simulta-
22
power amplifiers
neously on the front display. In the event of excessive highfrequency overload, there is an automatic level reduction to
protect the power amplifier itself and also the loudspeaker
components connected.
The large, backlit liquid crystal display delivers comprehensive status information, error reports and measurements as
well as allowing you to control the basic settings and (with
the IRIS-Net™ module integrated) select presets as well.
In addition to extreme reliability and forward-looking operating security, the PowerH power amplifiers are impressive for
their outstanding audio performance. The THD, intermodulation distortion (IMD-SMPTE) and dynamic intermodulation
(DIM) are all well below 0.05% and therefore far below the
limit of audibility.
All the components of the switching power supply are so
safely dimensioned that they are capable of delivering the
maximum peak output current of 70 A continuously, thereby
allowing the power amplifier to operate as a stable voltage
source even at extremely low loads. PowerH power amplifiers
therefore have a significant amount of headroom at their disposal, which results in superior dynamics even at low loads.

Supervision and Diagnosis
The RCM-26 transfers all relevant amplifier data to
the IRIS-Net™ surface which monitors amplifier
status, power block and supply temperatures, output voltages and currents, all protections, mains
voltage and power consumption, pilottone and network status.
The impedance measurement with a 20 Hz to 20 kHz
sine wave sweep and the comparison with the stored
reference data makes it possible to diagnose with
precision the condition of the connected loudspeakers and even of their individual components
and cable connections.
Impedance measurement and comparison
Problems are therefore detected early and the
system is able to respond in good time. It is even
easy to examine the state of loudspeakers that are
difficult to access, such as those in stadiums or
large entertainment venues. The System Check
function allows you to measure comprehensively
and conduct a full examination of a very large audio
system at the push of a button. Even in live performance, the connected load is monitored continuously. Any undershooting (short-circuit) or overshooting (interruption) of the set tolerance limits is
automatically detected and reported immediately.

FIR Filters
Although FIR filters require a massive amount of processing
and are highly complex, they are realized in the RCM-26 in
addition to the classical filtering and signal processing
functions. Available are linear-phase FIR filters and 'zero
latency' FIR filters, which add no further latency to the time
signals require to pass through the device.
Users can create their own linear phase 'brick-wall X-overs'
and edit them in real time.

Linearization of a floor monitor
For Dynacord loudspeaker cabinets, measurements of the
frequency and phase response are already provided in the
IRIS-Net™. This data can be displayed and merged in IRISNet™ together with the filter, crossover and delay settings.
The superposition then shows the acoustical frequency
response of the loudspeaker cabinet. The IRIS-Net™ module RCM-28 (under development) offers, instead of the AES3
digital input, a CobraNet™ interface, making it possible to
integrate PowerH power amplifiers into CobraNet™ networks.

Remote Functions
Remote control via the IRIS-Net™ provides Power
On / Standby switching and the programming of
power-up sequences for the power amplifiers as
well as level settings and the muting of individual
channels or channel groups. In the RCM-26, all
parameters can be controlled in real time as well as
stored in user memories, from which they can be
retrieved and reloaded subsequently.

LX Series
I
switchmode precision serie
Switschmode Technology
The DYNACORD LX series is a family of ultra lightweight
power amplifiers combining analogue class H design with
next generation switching power supplies. The professional,
high audio quality series' top model is rated at 2 x 1500 Watt /
4 ohms with a weight of approx. 8 kg only.
With a maximum output of 2 x 1500 Watt / 4 ohms and 2 x
2100 Watt / 2 ohms the LX series is the ideal drive for high
power fullrange cabinets. Even complex loads down to 2 ohms
are handled safely and absolutely stable. Due to the low
weight of approx. 8 kg per unit, amplifier racks for active
multiway systems are no longer in the heavyweight class
when they are equipped with LX series models.
nuously comparing the input signal to the output signal – this
is called Audio Processor Control (APC) – and in the event
of any non-linearity, the processors send control signals to
the limiters, which operate dynamically upon the input level.
As a result, total harmonic distortion is kept to max.1% at all
input levels below 21 dBu.
Safety Package
The complete LX series is equipped with protections against
overheating, overloading, short-circuits, DC and HF as well
as a Back-EMF protection. With the Soft Start system, the
power outputs are switched on via a relay when a safe
operational state has been reached and a power-up delay
prevents the mains fuses being activated.
Class-H Technology
With this technology, two different power supply rails are
permanently available internally to the power amplifier
blocks. For most of the program material, the lower is able
to reproduce the signal flawlessly.
However when there are dynamic peaks, the amplifier
switches internally and at high speed to the higher supply
voltage. The great advantage of this technology lies in the
fact that for much of the time, the power amplifier blocks are
working with the lower supply voltage and the power dissipation is therefore considerably less than with conventional
class AB power amplifiers.
LPN + LO-CUT
The retrofittable NRS 90268 kit, which is available as an option
for all LX power amplifiers, combines the patented LPN (lowpass notch) filter with a low-cut filter. These eliminate transient
non-linearities in the low frequency range in small to mediumsized full-range speakers and thereby considerably extend the
reproducible range at the bottom end. The acoustic result is
bass reproduction with more punch and greater substance.
This also means considerably less waste heat. A conventional
power amplifier design consumes almost twice as much
current and generates twice as much heat as Dynacord’s
CLASS H design. The compact power amplifiers of the Precision
Series therefore remain far cooler under extreme conditions.
Dynamic Limiters
Dynamic limiters are a standard feature of all DYNACORD
power amplifiers. High speed audio processors are contiNRS 90268

CL Series
I
compact linear precision series
The new Compact Linear Precision Series power
amplifiers combine outstanding audio performance
with maximum reliability and operating security as well
as being markedly lighter than equivalent power amplifiers.
Through the use of an optimized power supply with low
dispersion toroidal transformers as well as of Class H technology, a large amount of headroom above the specified nominal output has been achieved along with a considerable
reduction in weight and thermal leakage.
CL Series power amplifiers satisfy all the criteria for punishing
‘on the road’ use. They are reliably protected against overheating, overload and short-circuits as well as high frequency
and DC at the output.
The 'soft start' function employs relays to insert a delay between switching on the device and the activation of the power
outputs. A further circuit limits the current on power-up,
thereby protecting the mains fuses. DYNACORD amplifiers
constantly monitor the input- versus the output- signal by
means of superfast audio processors which send -in case of
non-linear operation- control parameters to the limiters. The
limiters are thus operating dynamically and do not affect the
amplifiers dynamic capabilities as they control the input gain
level. Thermal stability is provided by a 3-stage fan with a
very low noise level. The inputs are electronically balanced
and implemented on XLR connectors, whilst Direct Outs for
looping the signal are also standard.
Input routing permits the choice between Mono and Stereo
modes. Mono bridged mode is also easy to realize thanks to
the separate Bridged Out connectors and the Bridged Mode
switch.
The level controllers on the front panel are scaled in decibels
and implemented as highly precise and rugged detent
potentiometers recessed into the front panel to protect them
30

from mechanical damage. The clearly laid out LED display
shows the operating condition of the power amplifiers by
means of Power, Protect, Signal and Limit indicators.
The electronically balanced XLR input and output connectors with a sensitivity of +4dBu (1.23V) are designed for
direct operation with professional mixing consoles and
signal processors. The power outputs for Channels A and B
as well as the Bridged Out are available on reliable
Speakon connectors. There is also a Ground Lift switch on
the rear panel to separate the signal ground from the chassis ground to eliminate ground loops.
All CL power amplifiers can normally be operated with loads
as low as 2 ohms and in bridged mode down to a minimum
of 4 ohms with complete operational security.

The retrofittable NRS 90268 kit, which is available as an option

Xa 4000
I
system amplifier
The universally usable Xa 4000 active 2-way power
amplifier provides Class H technology and a switching
power supply. Xa 4000 power amps combine outstanding audio performance, highest reliability and operational
safety allowing easy setup and operation of active 2way systems with a crossover frequency of 140Hz between bass and mid/high cabinets.
The power amp’s output capacity of 1100W/4 ohms for the
bass channel and 900W/4 ohms for the mid/high channel
allows the connection of up to four 8 ohms cabinets per
channel. The integrated frequency crossover separates the
bass from the mid/high range at 140Hz.
The x-over is carried out as a modified Butterworth-crossover
with a slope of 18dB/octave. The crossover frequency of
140Hz allows the connection of basically any mid/high and
bass cabinet. Using 2-or 3-way fullrange speaker systems –
for example DYNACORD F150 – as mid/high cabinets is
possible as well.
The frequency response of the Xa 4000 particularly
accounts for the requirements of „Live“ applications. An integrated Lo-Cut filter attenuates low-frequency signals such
as rumble and subsonic noise protecting the bass cabinets
from being damaged by mechanical overload.
Optimized for the usage of medium sized and large-format
vented bass cabinets, bass horn speakers, Manifolds and
Planar Waveguide horns, the LPN – Low-Pass-Notch filters
bass equalization corrects the transient response of connected bass cabinets.
The transmission qualities of the Xa 4000 are simply extraordinary. The switching power supply technology derived
from the SWITCHMODE PRECISION Series and the
consistent use of Class-H technology provide extensive
headroom far above the stated nominal output and conspicuous reduction in weight and leakage power at the same
time. The power amplification stages of the Xa 4000 are
designed in Class-H technology, so that the power amp provides extremely fast, signal-dependent operating voltage
switching, which, at the time needed, results in doubling the
regular supply votage. Compared to power amps operated in
Class-AB mode, Class-H power amps generate by far less
leakage power at identical output.
Mechanical construction and workmanship also comply with
the highest precision manufacturing standards. The robust
chassis is extremely rigid. Two three-speed high performance fans (off/slow/fast) guarantee outstanding thermal
stability at absolute low running noise.
Front-to-rear ventilation allows trouble-free operation even
in smaller amp racks. The electronically balanced inputs are
carried out via XLR-type connector. A Direct-Out for through
connecting the audio signal is also provided via XLRM-type
connectors. The easily readable LED display provides a
quick overview of the power amp’s current operational status.

CONCERT SOUND SYSTEMS
APPLICATION GUIDE
Concert Sound
In event sound reinforcement, at rental companies and
in professional Concert Sound applications three different
loudspeaker concepts have established themselves as
first choice during the recent years. “Horn-Loaded
Systems” with exceptionally high efficiency, “Line-Array
Systems” offering exactly defined dispersion capabilities
and universally suitable “Powered Speaker” cabinets.
Horn-Loaded Systems
Especially in the “Rock & Roll” business as with other sound
reinforcement applications, where high SPL is most important, horn-loaded systems are still the “First Choice”. Comb
filter effects, which occur as a result of the suboptimal addition of individual dispersion when employing several midhigh cabinets, cannot be entirely eliminated by physical
means.
DYNACORD V-SYSTEMS and Xa System components
cover this segment of “High-Power” sound reinforcement.
Consequent use of conical Lo-Mid horns and coaxial Mid-Hi
cabinet speaker design reduces comb filtering and the product of distortion down to a theoretical minimum, which,
when compared to exponential horn systems, results in
significantly improved homogeneous dispersion.
Line Array Systems
Line Arrays have established themselves in the market for
ambitious Concert Sound applications that require top sound
quality. Their extremely wide horizontal coverage pattern
and exactly defined narrow vertical pattern control eliminates undesirable projection towards ceiling and floor and
hence interfering reflections. Conventional Line Arrays are
mostly designed for use in “flown“ major PA-systems.
Despite their inherent sound quality advantages, customary
36
concert sound systems
Line Arrays therefore are only infrequently used for small
and medium-sized sound reinforcement applications. With
our COBRA-2 and COBRA-4 Compact Line Array systems
DYNACORD offers a practical solution for those applications,
which cannot be served economically with existing large format Line Arrays. With the compact and easy to handle
DYNACORD COBRA systems, Line Array performance in
“flown“ as well as in “stacked“ setups becomes also available
for a great many of routine “bread & butter” events in typical
multi purpose halls, marquees or municipal open air concerts.
Powered Speakers
An increasing demand for active speaker cabinets with integral controllers and amplifier sections can be observed in
the field of portable PRO AUDIO applications. Setting and
operation do not necessitate trained personnel and complex
power rating and impedance considerations, like they are
necessary with rack oriented installations can be omitted.
However, up to now, putting up with compromises in sound
quality and SPL was unavoidable, because most commercially available active speakers had been designed for multimedia rather than for PRO AUDIO applications.
Through uncompromising acoustic and electronic design
and the use of high performance neodymium transducers,
DYNACORD MADRAS System cabinets for the first time
provide a quality level that up until now had been reserved for
complex, rack oriented multi-channel systems with controllers.
Acute sound reinforcement problems, like lacking front- or
side-fill, additional channels for monitoring or delay applications, can be solved quickly and without extensive thought
Coverage, Distance, SPL
The diagram shows the correlation between horizontal coverage, distance and sound pressure level.
As a general rule: a duplication in distance = - 6dB SPL,
10-times the distance = - 20dB SPL
For example: If at the FOH-spot (typically ~ 30m) 110dB sound pressure level are required, the following equation can be utilized for calculating the required SPL in a distance of 1m, which consequentially leads to the configuration needed.
Calculation: max.SPL/1m = SPL/FOH + ( 20 x log distance / m )
max.SPL/1 = 110dB + 29,54 = ~ 140dB
ConcertSound
The equation for calculating the maximum SPL per cabinet in related dependence to the power introduced is similar.
As a general rule: a duplication in power = + 3dB SPL, 10-time the power = + 10dB SPL
If only the 1W / 1m value of speaker cabinet is known - e.g. 100dB 1W / 1m, 600 Watt RMS, 1200 W Cont.
Program - the calculated maximum SPL / m per cabinet is:
max.SPL/1m = SPL 1W / 1m + ( 10 x log Cont. Program in watts )
maxSPL/1m = 100 + 30,8 = ~ 131dB
Consequentially, several cabinets are needed to achieve a max. SPL of 140dB / 1m (previous example)
As a general rule:
Every duplication of the number of cabinets results in an increase of the direct sound by +6dB
This permits to easily estimate the needed number of cabinets. 1 cabinet produces 131dB, 2 cabinets produce
137dB, 4 cabinets 143dB.
Result: 3 cabinets produce 140dB / 1m

Cobra
I
compact line-array system
Line arrays have gained the prime position in professional concert sound. Due to their dispersion characteristics, long throw capability and low distortion line arrays
are superior to conventional systems with relatively
narrow horizontal coverage when high quality sound
reinforcement is required for large audience areas.
Conventional line arrays are large, heavy, costly and complicated to rig. That is why they are hardly ever used for small
to medium events despite their audio quality advantages.
system components
The DYNACORD line array systems Cobra-2 and Cobra-4
are extremely compact, easy to set up and highly cost
efficient providing line array quality in applications where
large format arrays are impractical. All Cobra systems are
ground-stackable ! The exceptionally wide dispersion characteristics of Cobra systems covers large listening areas
without the annoying notch filter effects of conventional horizontal clusters. Precisely defined vertical coverage without
sidelobes prevents radiation ontoreflecting surfaces such as
floors and ceilings.
System Racks
The pre-wired 12U racks for Cobra-2 and Cobra-4 systems
integrate DSP controller, amplifiers, NF panel and a 32A
mains connector on the rear AC panel. These 4-channel
system racks are suitable for 2-way stereo (Sub – Top) and
38
concert sound systems
4-way mono applications (Sub – Low – Mid – High) . 4-way
stereo systems such as Cobra-4 require retrofitting an additional DSP controller and two amplifiers for the blank panels,
or the use of two pre-wired racks.

Cobra-2
I
compact line array-active 2 way system
The Cobra-2 system has been designed for small events
in tents and halls with listening distances of up to 40m
and areas of approx. 1000m_ producing a maximum
mid-high level of 137dB L and R and up to 141dB bass
punch.
The basic Cobra-2 system combines 4 mid-high CobraTOPs, 4 Cobra-SUBs and one 12U pre-wired amp rack
including 4-pole loudspeaker cables and a 2,5° dual purpose
wedge set for precise top cabinet coverage pattern adjustment.
A single system amp rack (with L-Series or LX-Series amplifier
options) drives up to 6 Cobra-TOPs and / or 6 Cobra-SUB
cabinets. For system extension (subs, front and side fills,
monitors), additional amps are easily integrated and connected to the AC panel.
The maximum Cobra-2 system extension combines two
complete Cobra-2 systems (4 Cobra-TOPs and 4-6 CobraSUBs per side).
Since doubling the stacked or horizontally flown CobraTOPs narrows the vertical coverage angle by half, special
attention must be paid to aiming the winged or stacked
cabinets.
The Cobra-TOP coverage is 120° horizontally and 30° vertically, so two stacked tops provide 120° x 15° while four
result in 120° x 7,5° coverage angles. With the included 2,5°
wedges ground stack tops are easily and correctly aimed at
the audience areas.
To achieve a tight long-throw bass response in varied musi-

cal styles and acoustic environments Cobra-2 systems are
easily extended with Cobra-PWH bass horns. Like three
Cobra-SUBs, two Cobra-PWH units provide the 180cm
height necessary for the Cobra-TOPs in a ground stack.

I
compact line array-active 4 way system
The basic 4-way active COBRA-4 SYSTEM has been designed
for listening distances of up to 80m common in medium-sized
marquees, halls and outdoor events.
3D Directivity Plot
At the FOH location (30m distance), it produces mid-high levels of
110dB and up to 120dB bass punch required by contemporary top 40
bands. A stack of two COBRA-4 TOPs and one COBRA-4 FAR easily
provides line array performance without extensive setup times.
For large distances, the COBRA-4 FAR crowning the stack provides
90° x 5° high frequency coverage horizontally x vertically while the
COBRA-4 TOP components extend the low and midrange line array.
A total of eight COBRA-PWH horns produces the bass punch and
coverage required by contemporary top 40 bands. Depending on
musical style and acoustic environment they can be stacked or arranged
as horizontal bass array.

3D Directivity Plot
Pre-wired amp racks integrating controller, amplifiers, NF and AC
connector panels are the recommended drives for COBRA-4

The flying grid FG 600 has been designed for rigging Cobra and
FX series cabinets equipped with airline profiles.
The complete flying system consists of the grid FG 600 and an
SE 600 tightening rope extension. All accessories come with logging
pins that can never get lost, and the assembly requires no additional
tools. Maximum load capacity is 460kg with a safety factor of 12:1.
Large arrays may require rear tightening. The rope extension SE 600
slides into the FG 600 grid for wing adjustment. It is conveniently
fixed into position by ball locks. The EASE Focus software (available
on the DYNACORD homepage) simulates a wide variety of mechanical setups in the planning stages which are then acoustically verified. EASE Focus includes the electrical and mechanical data of
Cobra and FX cabinets and automatically calculates grid suspension
points for different loads and setup angles.

powered speaker systems
There is an increasing demand for powered loudspeaker cabinets for universal use in pro audio systems and
fixed installations.
Their installation, setting-up and operation can be undertaken
by untrained personnel and even extensive active sound reinforcement systems are intuitive and easy to control.
Systems employing such loudspeakers are also extremely
reliable, since every cabinet contains its own controller and
amplifier sections. Elaborate programming and complex
load calculations of the kind required by rack-oriented
systems with digital controllers not necessary. Furthermore,
it is possible to react quickly and flexibly to the changing
demands of each location; the transportation headaches
associated with large, heavy racks are also avoided.
Up until now, however, the use of active speakers often involved compromises in terms of sound quality, sound pressure
levels and projection, since most of the active systems on
the market were designed with multimedia rather than pro
audio applications in mind — a fact that is reflected in their
electronic and loudspeaker components.
That’s why DYNACORD developed the MADRAS system
specifically for high quality pro audio applications.
Uncompromising acoustic and electronic designs as well as
the use of the finest transducers combine here to achieve a
level of quality previously only available from complex, rackoriented multi-way systems with their own controllers.

Xa-2 System
In a world of over-abundance and mass production, quality, functionality and design are still
decisive factors. We at DYNACORD develop and
produce first-class products (‘Made in
Germany’) that through practice ptimized
details and well-considered solutions to the real
problems of each application provide our users
with only positive experiences, bringing them
many years of pleasure in day-to-day operation.
The highest possible quality of our products
and the absolute satisfaction of our customers
are our highest precepts.
Complete plug ‘n’ play audio systems have for
many years been an ever present part of the
DYNACORD sound reinforcement range. With the
new Xa-2 systems, once again DYNACORD is setting the highest standards in audio performance,
reliability and price. To obtain the highest possible
on-axis sound pressure levels, complete hornloaded systems remain the first choice. Typical Top
40 gigs, open air events in the cities and mobile DJ
applications requiring up to 1000 m2 of coverage
and 40 metre throws are the ideal applications for
the new Xa-2 systems from DYNACORD.
High-quality neodymium components combined
with new Constant Q horns and patented planar
waveguide bass horns deliver maximum sound
pressure and superlative audio performance. The
active 2-way Class H system power amplifiers with

switching power supplies and audio processors as
well as all the requisite protective circuits are capable
of driving a very wide range of rig configurations
with absolute reliability. With VCTP safety circuits in
the cabinets — the ‘personal bodyguards’ of the
loudspeakers the widest possible dynamic range is
combined with the highest degree of security.
Simple transportation, fast setting-up times and
easy cabling are just some of the important practical
advantages of DYNACORD’s complete systems.
A wide range of accessories, such as flying frames,
rigging wires and tilting apparatus provide simple
and TÜV-approved solutions to complex, vexing
and otherwise time-consuming problems when setting-up in awkward venues.
The components of the Xa-2 can be quickly and
easily configured to cover an enormous range of
different sound reinforcement applications in venues
of all shapes and sizes without any need for complex
calculations, controller adjustments and limiter settings.
If extreme sub levels are needed for an open air DJ
event, just add another sub on each side! If the
brass band in the beer tent wants ultra-wide coverage but less bass, just use one sub and two angled
tops per side! And if a Top 40 band suddenly finds
itself playing to an audience of 4000, the same system amp can drive three subs and two tops per side
— not to mention additional front- or side-fill enclosures — without even breaking sweat!

FX 20
FX 12
FX 12 2-Way Hi-Power Top
The FX 12 is conceived as a fully horn-loaded and coaxial
2-way high-power top and covers the frequency range from
100 Hz to 19 kHz with a maximum sound pressure level of
134 dB / 1m. The HF range from 1 kHz upwards is reproduced
by a Neodymium ND 6-8 driver with a 3” voice coil and a
CDH 8040-14 Constant Q horn, whilst coverage in the midrange from 100 Hz to 1 kHz is provided by a neodymium ND
12A driver with a conical midrange horn.
Extremely low distortion and the minimum of comb-filter
effects, whether multiple tops are stacked or flown, are
decisive arguments in favour of conical horns. A fully electronic voice coil tracking protection system provides permanent monitoring of the operating state of the individual loudspeakers, and only in the event of overload is the power
gently reined back to safe values. The result is the maximum
possible dynamic range combined with the highest operational security.
The enclosure is constructed from multi-ply 15mm poplar
plywood and is covered with an extremely hard-wearing
needle felt. Secure protection for the front of the enclosure
is provided by a powder-coated metal grille with an acoustic
foam front. Handles at the side and four large rollers on the
back afford extra handling comfort.
Flying rails and fittings for load straps are integrated as standard. Foolproof connectivity is provided by the 4-pin
Speakon cables with system pins that permit reliable
communication between the FX 12 and the Xa 4000 system
power amplifier, whether it is connected directly or looped
through the FX 20 subwoofer.
up to 138 dB/1m per side and provide an extremely dry and
deep bass foundation for the Xa 2 system.
The 18” woofer, like the top, is afforded precise protection
against thermal overload by a fully electronic voice coil
tracking system and even extreme power peaks are reproduced precisely and powerfully without any dynamic loss.
The enclosure is constructed from multi-ply 15mm poplar
plywood and is covered with an extremely hard-wearing
needle felt. Two subwoofers achieve a stacked height of 180
cm, permitting the overhead mounting of the FX 12 tops. The
same 4-pin Speakon connectors are used for the subwoofers as the tops. The sub-signal delivered by the system
power amplifier reaches the subwoofer via pins 1+/1- and
the midrange/HF signal is looped through to the tops on pins
2+/2-. Four generously dimensioned rubber feet on both the
bottom and sides are provided to accommodate different
set-up configurations and ensure high stability when
stacking. In all, six handles and four robust rollers on the
rear permit easy handling and safe transport.
Xa 4000 System Amp
The system power amplifier, the Xa 4000, is designed as a
two-way power amplifier (SUB-TOP) and can be set up in a
side-oriented configuration for short cable runs to the cabinets or mounted with similar devices in the rack. Employing
Class H technology, the 2U system power amplifiers boasts
a state-of-the-art switching power supply and weighs a mere
8.25 kg. The output power is 1100 W in the SUB channel
and 900 W in the TOP channel, in each case into 4 ohms,
however up to three tops and/or three subwoofers can be
driven with extreme reliability and economy.
FX 20 Planar Waveguide Sub
To achieve the highest possible sound pressure levels, the
FX 20 is conceived as a planar waveguide bass horn and
armed with an EVX 180B 18“ woofer with a high power
handling capacity. The frequency range from 30 Hz to 150 Hz
is reproduced with a maximum sound pressure level of 132
dB/1m. Two of these planar waveguide subwoofers deliver
50

All the necessary signal processing – including equalization,
LPN filter, lo-cut filter and an active crossover at 140 Hz with
an 18 dB/octave slope in a modified Butterworth configuration
– is on board, as well as separate level controls on the front
for the SUB and TOP to allow individual tailoring of the output to the venue or style of music.

Connection Panel
If the power amp is driving the FX 12 as a single cabinet (e.g. for high quality
speech applications) using standard pin-assignments, all you need do is move the
sliding switch from “System“ (pins 2+/2-) to “Normal” (pins 1+/1-) and the pins at
the socket will be correctly configured.
HF Components
The CDH 8040-14 80° x 40° Constant-Q high frequency horn is equipped with a
ND 6-8 Neodymium driver reproducing the frequency range above 1 kHz and is
mounted coaxially in the Conical Waveguide midrange horn.
Threaded Adapter
Additional full-range cabinets for front- or side-fills or smaller tops can be aimed
and securely mounted on top of the FX 20 to save space using the optional PCL 880
and PCL 1500 threaded poles.
Sub Components
The Planar Waveguide Basshorn FX 20 is armed with an Electro-Voice
heavy-duty EVX 180 B 18“ woofer.
Flying Rails, Handles and Rollers
The Acra flying rails provided as standard, combined with the CSST flying wires
available as accessories, allow the FX 12 to be flown securely in the truss. Various
detents are provided, so that exactly the right degree of tilt can be obtained.
Multiple cabinets can be connected using CSSM flying wires equipped with double
studs on each side.
On the rear of both the FX 12 and the FX 20, you will find four heavy-duty rollers.
Two handles on the tops and six in all on the subwoofers facilitate transportation
and ensure safe handling when stacking the cabinets.

By using the FG 600 flying grid, which is available as
an optional accessory, FX12 tops (and other 600 mm
wide cabinets like ‘Cobra’) can be flown safely and
quickly in the truss – or else mounted on “genies”
without any problems. With the SE 600 retractable
rigging strap extension and a rigging strap, the whole
wing of tops can be aligned easily.

APPLICATION GUIDE
VariLine
I
multi-functional speaker line
Professional sound reinforcement requires maximum
perfomance and high sound pressure levels for a wide
variety of touring and installation applications. Universal
loudspeaker functionality is therefore most important to
meet the ever changing demands without effort. Both
acoustically and mechanically, VariLine enclosures have
been uncompromisingly designed and optimized for
multifunctional application. Innovative circuits provide
maximum reliability and protection of all loudspeaker
components.
Engineered & made in Germany. VariLine loudspeakers
54
loudspeakers
feature premium components only: lightweight high power
neodymium transducers, rotable CAD optimized CD horns,
all-electronic protection circuits and passive true-phase
crossovers provide outstanding reliability and linear reproduction even in highly critical applications.
Comprehensive mounting and rigging accessories facilitate
professional handling and secure, easy installation of
VariLine loudspeakers. Visually attractive yet low-key, these
enclosures are highly recommended for demanding ambiences.
Cabinet Design
VariLine enclosures are made from extremely rugged multiply birch wood and two-pot
finished to withstand touring and handling stress. The front is protected by a sturdy
powder-coated steel grille lined with high quality acoustic foam and, the company logo is
90° rotatable for horizontal use. 12“ and 15“ models feature asymmetric enclosures to
facilitate the use as floor monitors and cluster arrangement.
Loudspeaker
VariLine loudspeakers are equipped with extremely low-distortion stateof-the-art drivers only to provide linear response, wide dynamic range
and high power handling. The 6“, 12“ and 15“ transducers feature neodymium magnets significantly contributing to the light weight of VariLine
enclosures.
Horn
The large format VariLine constant directivity HF horns have been optimized with advanced CAD software resulting in exemplary low distortion
and directivity way down beyond the MB range. For horizontal applications,
they are rotatable by 90°. The smaller enclosures are equipped with
Electro-Voice DH3 titanium dome drivers, the VL 122 and larger models
feature Electro-Voice ND6 neodymium drivers with 3“ voice coils and 1.4“
exits. These advantageous horn/driver configurations provide crisp and
powerful high-resolution HF reproduction.
Crossover
VariLine crossovers use selected high-quality components only for signal
processing and the innovative DYNACORD protection circuits: the allelectronic VOICE COIL TRACKING PROTECTION and halogen protectors prevent thermal overload. For maximum dynamics, VariLine loudspeakers can be driven by extremely powerful amplifiers without voice coil
damage - even when operating errors occur. Thermal overload triggers a
'soft' power reduction without the switching noise of conventional protection circuits. Additionally,12“ and 15“ models feature selectable bi-amp
operation .

loudspeaker systems
The full-range speakers of the D-LITE series are extremely light, mechanically durable polypropylene cabinets for professional portable and fixed installation
sound reinforcement applications in small to mediumsized venues. The wide range of mounting accessories
available for the enclosures and their tasteful styling
permit them to be used without problems in critical fixed
installation applications. Being of polypropylene, the
enclosures are capable of withstanding the roughest
handling during transport and use. The integration of
the constant directivity HF horns into the baffle is CADoptimized.
The robust powder-coated steel grilles at the front of the
enclosures are covered by black acoustic foam plastic.
Both the Speakon sockets in the connection panels are
recessed to allow the cabinets to be operated in cramped locations. The bevelled sides of the enclosures
allow them to be used without problems in monitor
applications in which more bass extension is required
than that provided by typical monitor loudspeakers.
Robust handles, integrated stand adapters, and a wide
range of flying and mounting accessories facilitate the
transport and setting up of the enclosures as well as
allowing them to be ideally positioned and aimed.
and tasteful black and white finishes make it suitable for a
very wide range of small to medium-sized events as well as
critical fixed installation applications. The high-performance
12" DL 12 BFH transduces the bass and midrange up to
1.5kHz, whilst in the high-frequency range, an ND-2 neodymium driver is coupled with a large-format constant Q horn
with an 80° x 40° coverage pattern, the integration of which
into the baffle is CAD-optimized.
As with all the D-LITE cabinets, thanks to the fully electronic
Voice Coil Tracking Protection with halogen protectors,
extremely high, distortion-free peak sound levels can be
generated, and professional power amplifiers can be used
the rated outputs of which are the same as the peak values
of the enclosures they are driving without the reliability of either being compromised.
When used in active satellite systems, such as for example
the active 3-channel PowerSub 315 from DYNACORD, the
D 12 or D 12-3 cabinets are simply connected to the Left and
Right Satellite Outputs of the PowerSub 315. The use of
Compact Linear series power amplifiers or the PowerMate 2
can be recommended for both solo full-range operation and
use in combination with passive subwoofers.
D 12
All the loudspeakers of the D-LITE series are afforded precise
and reliable protection against thermal overload by a combination of DYNACORD's fully-electronic Voice-Coil Tracking
Protection system and halogen protectors. This allows them
to be driven by very powerful power amplifiers with a view to
achieving the widest possible dynamic range.
The internal passive crossovers are optimized for long
distances and even dispersion, allowing D-LITE cabinets to
be used under acoustically unfavourable conditions.
D 12
Weighing a mere 16kg, the D 12 2-way full-range cabinet
with its polypropylene enclosure has an extremely linear
frequency response and is notable for its powerful, natural
reproduction of the voice as well as its transparent resolution
throughout the entire frequency range. Its elegant styling

D 15-3
D 12-3
DYNACORD's traditional and popular 12" / 3-way
concept sees a further dramatic improvement in
performance with the introduction of the D 12-3.
With its voluminous bass reproduction and its uncoloured, extremely low-distortion vocal reproduction
combined with its transparent resolution throughout
the entire frequency range, this lightweight fullrange satellite stands head and shoulders above
the multitude of other enclosures on the market
made from synthetic materials.
The tried-and-tested DL 12 BFH low frequency
driver, with its high power handling, transduces the
frequency range below 700 Hz. As is the case with
the D 15-3, the midrange is handled by an extremely low-distortion DYNACORD DND 6120 neodymium MF driver, whilst a DH-3 coupled with a 90° x
50° constant-directivity HF horn delivers transparent reproduction of the range above 4kHz. Thanks
to the extremely broad (>120°) conical dispersion
pattern in the midrange, even in acoustically unfavourable venues no exaggeratedly precise aiming
of the enclosures at the areas to be covered is
necessary. For the D 12-3, whether operating as a
full-range speaker or linked to passive subwoofers
with integrated x-over filters (such as the Sub 115
or Sub 118), the ideal drivers are the PowerMates
1000-2 / 1600-2 or professional power amplifiers of
the Compact Linear series.
The D 15-3 sets new standards in the area of professional polypropylene enclosures, reconciling the
highest possible sound pressure levels, maximum
power handling and linear frequency response with
modest dimensions and extreme lightness.
Equipped with a DYNACORD DND 15400 neodymium loudspeaker capable of high power handling,
the D 15-3 convinces with its powerful and natural
voice reproduction and impressive sub bass. For
the midrange, an extremely low-distortion DYNACORD DND 6120 neodymium loudspeaker is used,
which with its conical 120° dispersion guarantees
uncoloured reproduction of vocals free from
alignment problems. The integration into the baffle
of the constant directivity high-frequency horn,
which has a nominal dispersion angle of 90° x 50°,
is CAD-optimized, whilst the DH-3 HF driver provides transparent reproduction of the high frequencies. In addition to its use as a pure full-range speaker, in which role it delivers excellent results, no
additional amplifier is required for the direct parallel connection of the D 15-3 to a suitable passive
subwoofer with an integrated x-over filter, such as
the Sub 118. The ideal drivers for full-range or fullrange/sub combinations are the professional power
amplifiers of the DYNACORD Compact Linear or
Switch Mode Precision LX series or the PowerMate 2.

Sub115
Sub 115
Sub 118
The Sub 115 is a vented direct-radiating enclosure with an
Electro-Voice EVS 15S woofer, which offers high power
handling. As a reflex system the newly developed and
patented High-Speed Laminar Vent (HSLV) is used.
Compared to conventional bass reflex vents, airflow loss
and air noise are considerably reduced by HSLV technology.
High sound pressure levels can be generated at low frequencies with considerably less distortion than with conventional
bass-reflex designs.
Like all the loudspeakers of the D-LITE series, the subwoofers, too, are reliably protected against thermal overload
by the fully electronic Voice Coil Tracking Protection system
with its halogen protectors. Extremely powerful power amplifiers can therefore be used with a view to achieving the
widest possible dynamic range without any thermal overloading of the voice coils. Instead of a disruptive shutdown,
such as those produced by conventional safety circuits,
VCTP implements a gentler reining in of the power to safe
limits whenever an overload occurs. For universal use in
combination with full-range tops, such as the D 12, D 12-3
or D 15-3, the Sub 115 and Sub 118 are equipped with x-over
filters to allow their simple and unproblematic connection in
parallel with the tops. The Sub 115 has the same styling and
footprint as the active 3-channel PowerSub 315 and is therefore the ideal choice to provide powerful reinforcement of
the bass region in active systems.

Sub118
Like the Sub 115, the Sub 118 is implemented as a directradiating vented subwoofer with a High-Speed Laminar
Vent. Offering extremely high power handling (700W RMS
and 2800W peak power), the DYNACORD LFS 18700 low frequency driver generates a powerful and distortion-free bass
foundation that reaches all the way down to 30Hz generating
sound pressure levels as high as 132dB. The enclosures of
both subwoofers are made from birch multiplex with a durable
dual-component coating. The upper bowl handle contains an
integrated M 20 screw to accommodate a mounting pole.
Suitably equipped full-range cabinets can therefore be
mounted directly above the subwoofers with a consequent
saving of space. The enclosures are equipped with eight feet
(with large footprints), four robust casters on the back, and
ergonomically designed bowl handles to ensure easy transportation and safe setting-up.

PowerSub 315
The active High-Speed Laminar Vent Design
PowerSub 315 subwoofer is suited especially for
satellite systems active vented subwoofer with its
High-Speed Laminar Vent. Weighing in at a mere
45kg, the PowerSub 315 accommodates all the
electronics including the audio processors, stereo
crossover and four Class D power amplifier blocks
with a total output of 2000W.
Two bridged blocks provide the integrated 15"
DYNACORD LFS 1008 subwoofer with a total of
1000W / 8 ohms and 2 x 500W / 4 ohms are made
available to the connected satellites. The sub-woofer level is continuously adjustable and you can
select between three different sub/satellite crossover frequencies ranging from 80Hz to 160Hz.
To provide particularly powerful reinforcement of
the low frequency range, two passive (e.g. DYNACORD Sub 115) subwoofers can be driven by the
PowerSub 315. In this mode, the integrated sub
power amplifiers switch from 1 x 1000W / 8 ohms to
2 x 500W / 4 ohms. In a fully-expanded system, the
PowerSub 315 can drive a total of four 8 ohm
satellites and an additional two passive 8 ohm subwoofers without any difficulty.
Packed in an extremely robust but compact multiply

Highest requirements for advanced audio installations regarding their sound
pressure level, coverage andsound quality can only be achieved using active
multi-component loudspeaker systems that amplify and reproduce the audio
signal’s individual frequency range separately. Active 2-way installations with
additional subwoofer systems probably offer the best price-performance ratio.
The low frequency range of the audio signal is reproduced by subwoofers
while high-quality full rangecabinets take care of the Mid/Hi frequencies and
vocals. The PowerMax 3 system consists of two 12” 2-way cabinets
F 120, two 15” subwoofers F 5, one system power amplifier PM 2600, four

Sub 800A
AM12 / M12
Sub 800 A Active 15” Sub
The active subwoofer SUB 800 A houses a 15" transducer,
an active PowerMax stereo x-over, and an integrated
power amplifier.
Using the SUB 800 A together with a PowerMate or a
mixer/power amp combination provides the possibility
to easily expand a fullrange system into an active stereo
2-way system with subwoofer. On the other hand, operating the SUB 800 A connected in parallel with an existing
system set-up to provide an extended sub-bass response
is possible as well. The integrated electronic stereo 2-way
frequency crossover in PowerMax technology divides the
audio signal into Mono-Sub and stereo Mid-High range.
When operated in active 2-way mode, the mid-high
signal is outputted via the SUB 800 A’s Mid-High outputs
from where it is fed to the Master Return connectors of
the mixer or PowerMate, where it gets amplified. The
summed L/R-Mono-Sub signal is directly fed to the integrated power amp. The recessed mounted High
Efficiency power amplifier provides an output power
capacity of 800 watts, is realised in "Class H" topology
and drives an Electro-Voice EVS 15S 15" woofer system.
This combination provides a maximum sound pressure
level of 128 dB/1m.
All well known protect circuitry like audio limiters, TBC,
Back-EMF, DC, HF, Short-Circuit and Thermal Protection
are integrated. The enclosure of the SUB 800 A comes in
a black, extremely hardwearing structure lacquer finish.
Four large-scale castors on the rear panel and two
recessed metal carrying handles ensure easy handling
and comfortable transportation.
