A National/International Conference, which serves as, a yearly opportunity to examine/explore difficult issues related to white supremacy, white privilege, and oppression. WPC provides a forum for critical discussions about diversity, multicultural education, leadership, social justice, racism, sexual orientation, gender, religion and other systems of privilege/oppression. WPC is recognized as a challenging, empowering and educational experience. The workshops, keynotes and institutes not only inform participants, but engage and challenge them, while providing practical tips and strategies for combating inequality.

COMMUNITY AND YOUTH PROGRAMS

2008-current FACE 2 FACE (Seattle, WA): Is a comprehensive basketball and lifeskills camp designed to develop sports and lifelong skills in kids (7-18).

2006-present Middle School Boys Basketball Coach: I coach a team in the Catholic

Youth Organization league. I have been working with some of the kids/families for three years and are beginning to see them progress athletically, academically and socially.

2005 Rainer Scholars Instructor: I taught a class (Invictus) to a group of middle school students of color preparing for predominantly white schools/advanced placement programs. This class was to prepare them socially/mentally for some of the challenges they may face due to bias, prejudice and discrimination

1998-99 CHOICES After School Program; Facilitated conversations on various issues effecting teenagers, including, the n-word, job skills, love and abstinence, race relations, academic achievement, Black history, social skills and mannerisms with adolescent girls and boys attending an afterschool program funded by Substance Abuse Services Center.

1998 Prescott Parent Group; Discussed various parenting and educational issues including spanking, medicating, relationships and gift giving with a small group of parents with kids attending Prescott’s Headstart program.

Diversity, Privilege and Leadership: Are We Making Any Progress in the 21 st Century

This interactive, informational, challenging and energetic session examines and explores issues of diversity, privilege, oppression and leadership across America. We all have an excellent opportunity to be positive role models, powerful decision makers, and effective agents of change, if we have the tools. Are we making any progress?

America Is Changing: Are You Ready?

This session challenges participants to examine their own biases, behaviors and belief systems. Additionally, they learn how to take action against hatred, bigotry, privilege and oppression. We need more leaders for social justice and equity across America. Do you have the skills and ability to lead?

3) White Privilege: Getting in on the Conversations

This interactive, informational, challenging and energetic session examines and explores white privilege/oppression and the imperative that those promoting diversity must “get in on the conversations.” Participants will leave with the skills and knowledge necessary to begin addressing issues of white privilege/oppression individually and institutionally.

4) The Nigger Word: Is There a Message in The Madness?

This session looks at the history of the “N-word utilizing books, TV shows, film clips and a documentary film. The session challenges participants to examine their personal and professional histories with the N-word, examine when and /or how they were first introduced to the word and to explore the pictures and different feelings associated with the word. We will look at how current events, media, popular music and movies have used the word over the years and if the word has had any impact or influence on the millennial generation. Lastly, the session offers suggestions about the need and importance of understanding the various realities associated with the N-word and recommends how to challenge and encourage all people, but specifically young people, about the ramifications of casual or uninformed usage of this troublesome word.
