History of Sociology – a seminar series and book being produced in collaboration with Sociology
Henrietta O’Connor- Henrietta has been doing collaborative research with
Geography for around 10 years and this has resulted in both herself and Clare
Madge of Geography publishing interdisciplinary papers, in both Sociology and
Geography journals.
Vanessa Beck and Martin Quinn collaborated with Health Sciences/Library on an emda funded Economics of Health project.
Charlotte Bilby, Sarah Hodgkinson and Darrick Jolliffe have worked with Ruth
Hatcher from the Forensic Section of the Leicester School of Psychology to develop a questionnaire to measure offenders’ levels of satisfaction and engagement with the
National Offender Management Service (NOMS).
Francesco Moscone Francesco is a microeconometrician and is interested in working with Health Sciences. He has a track record in funded health economics research.
Members of the TESOL groups are exploring plans with Psychology for a bid in the field of assessment of language learning.
Philip Wood is currently collaborating with colleagues in Geography.
Jane Hislam - Jane is involved in a project bringing together speech therapists and teachers. The work has been conducted over the past four years, is ongoing and is in collaboration with De Montfort University. The work is also being evaluated as part of
University of Leicester's Interprofessional Education work (Dr Anderson Medical
Sciences)
The Institute collaborates with the School of Education when possible. The lifelong learning research into older people and society involves Professor Carol Jagger from
Health Sciences.
Jo Brewis - Jo draws on cultural studies, sociology, philosophy etc. to examine issues around organizing, consumption and so on.
Steven Brown- Steve has recently submitted joint grant proposals with Angus
Cameron (Geography) and with Gillian Youngs (Media). His background is in social psychology and he is tasked with building better collaborative relationships between
Management and Psychology.
Charlotte De Backer
Charlotte works with psychologists (including John Maltby from University of
Leicester) to investigate celebrity worship.
Anna Claydon- Anna is part of one of the department’s clusters, IDeoGRAMS
(Inter-Departmental Group for Research into the Arts, Media and Society) is interdisciplinary. Anna’s main interdisciplinary project at the moment involves teaching non-musicologists how to analyse music. Anna and her colleague David
Machin have just secured a contract with Sage to publish a book based upon their work in this field.
Rob Garner
Rob has been actively involved in the setting up of the Centre for Environmental
Research (CERES) It is hoped that research collaboration will follow.
Patrick White- Patrick is currently involved in collaboration with colleagues from the
NHS and Department of Psychology. They are using a unique, individual-level population data set in order to create statistical models of alcohol use amongst those with problem alcohol consumption.
1. Sociologists and clinical psychologists rarely work together
2. The econometric statistical modelling techniques being used with the data are relatively uncommon in psychology.
Ellen Annandale
Ellen works closely with colleagues in Health Sciences. She is currently putting together a bid to the NHS with sociologists at Loughborough University and colleagues from the School of Management.
Barbara Misztal
Barbara is working with Steve Brown from Management, Mark Lansdale from
Psychology and Gillian Youngs from Media and Communication on a project on memory and the London bombings.
