Dear Friends,
Welcome to the 2015 Christmas Faire! Like many of you, this will be my first St. Matthew’s
Christmas Faire. I can’t wait to experience it. From what I’ve been told and from what I’ve read,
this event will be a magical few hours of fellowship, food, drink and good fun that will help us to
prepare for Christmas. What I most anticipate is that this Christmas Faire will be bathed with a
sense of hope. We will bring hope to the many who receive support from our outreach partners
and we will embrace the hope that this world can be transformed through our efforts and prayers.
The gift of a future and a hope. This theme ultimately speaks of the promise of Christmas. In the birth
of the Christ child, God proclaimed that there was no darkness, trouble or poverty that could
escape the tender presence of Divine love. With the host of ministries that our Christmas Faire
efforts support and enable, love and hope comes to inner city youth in LA, to homeless in our
West LA neighborhood, to children in Africa, to unemployed folks seeking a job, to the families of
the incarcerated, and to many others. Fifteen outreach partners are supported with our gifts
through the Christmas Faire’s efforts. The impact of this event is not small, for those served and
for us—as we seek to become God’s hands of hope in the world.
The hospitality and hope of the Faire evening is made possible, in good measure, by those who
have been working so hard in the months and weeks leading up to this night. I have been
absolutely in awe of the energy, creativity and passion of those who have volunteered to serve on
the Christmas Faire 2015 Committee. May the members of this Committee be blessed with hope
and joy for the gift of this night.
While reading through the Christmas Faire catalog, it is easy to be pleasantly overwhelmed by the
variety of offerings. The auction items speak to me as an opportunity for lively competition,
laughter and generosity. The silent auction area, which includes the Thrift shop and Christmas
boutique, the wine auction, parties and raffle all seem to be a means for joy and sharing. The
stewardship of those who have donated so many wonderful items and ideas will turn into tangible
gifts we share with others. The wonder of the Christmas Faire night is that the fun and joy
experienced here translates into real assistance for those who are less fortunate.
Come to the Christmas Faire with open hearts and the expectation to give and share! It takes place
on Nov. 20 from 6 to 9pm in Sprague Auditorium. I am looking forward to the joy of the Faire and
pray that we will all experience the power of Christmas and the reality of hope.

On behalf of The Parish of St. Matthew we are delighted to welcome you to the 24TH Annual
Christmas Faire on November 20, 2015. As we come together to celebrate this merry season with
our families, friends old and new, and our neighbors, we HOPE that the merriment of this evening
will inspire you to make this evening a part of your faithful holiday tradition.
Thank you to our beloved St. Matthew’s community for your loving kindness and support of us in
this great effort. This evening could not happen without your generosity and goodwill. Thank you;
you've given us more than we could HOPE to give back to you.
The proceeds from the Christmas Faire go directly to our Outreach Partners. It is our prayer that
the thousands near and far whom our Outreach partners serve may never lose infinite HOPE. May
the funds raised tonight give them the resources to make their hardship less difficult to bear as they
regain their footing in the world and give them HOPE for tomorrow.

ANGEL INTERFAITH NETWORK (PROJECT ANGEL) – Provide funds for housing, food,
transportation and supplies for low-income families with babies born at County+ USC Medical
Center.
CHRYSALIS – Fund job training and placement for homeless/low-income individuals.
CLARE FOUNDATION – Fund “Campus for Continued Care” sober living site .
EPISCOPAL URBAN INTERN PROGRAM – Provide funds to continue development of recruitment
and marketing materials for interns to develop a strong pool of candidates.
GAIA (GLOBAL AID INTERFAITH ALLIANCE) – Sponsor a village in Malawi, Africa to employ
community care givers, provide malaria nets, medical supplies, school fees, orphan care supplies,
and other support.
HOLLYGROVE – Fund the Family Search and Engagement Program for abused children.
JUBILEE CONSORTIUM – Support the Jubilee Health Justice Project for inner city youth through a
Social Investment program.
NYA (NEIGHBORHOOD YOUTH ASSOCIATION) – Provide funding for the Personal Best Program
to help at- risk children in West Los Angeles.
OPCC (FORMERLY OCEAN PARK COMMUNITY CENTER) – Provide funds for food and shelter
for people who are homeless, living with mental illness, suffering from substance addiction or are
survivors of domestic abuse.
PRISM /RESTORATIVE JUSTICE – Support pastoral care for prison inmates at the Twin Towers
and youth at Juvenile Hall, and host a picnic for families of the incarcerated.
SAFE PLACE FOR YOUTH (SPY) – Fund the expansion of the case management program to
provide support and services for homeless youth in Los Angeles.
ST. JOSEPH CENTER – Pay the stipend for the Episcopal Urban Intern who helps locate housing
for the homeless.
ST. JOSEPH’S CENTER’S BREAD & ROSES CAFÉ – Fund partial salary for the chef that serves
meals to low income and homeless families and individuals, including veterans and seniors.
WESTSIDE FOOD BANK – Provide funds for purchase and distribution of essential nutrition for
ultra-low-income individuals and families (One dollar provides four meals to someone in need).

2011 MERRY EDWARDS PINOT NOIR
Recently inducted into the Vintners Hall of Fame in the Napa
Valley, along with a fellow by the name of Robert Parker, Merry
Edwards has crafted a small production, brilliant Sonoma Coast
Pinot Noir from three superb estate vineyards: Klopp, Flax, and
Cresta d’Oro. The relatively tiny 1,022-case yield forced the
winey to direct nearly all the wine to restaurants. It possesses all
the aromatics and flavors one associates with the significantly
more costly single-vineyard offerings, and offers an earthy, rustic
expression of Pinot, with loamy notes, vaguely defined dried
berry and herb details, and cola-sassafras hints and grainy tannins
on the finish. Drink now through 2022.

2012 TOR NAPA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON
The 2012 Napa Cabernet shows just how great this vintage was
from a valley perspective.This is a blend of Mast in Yountville,
Melanson on Pritchard Hill, Tierra Roja in Oakville, and To
Kalon in Oakville. The blending of these three different
vineyards produced what is easily the best Napa Cabernet we
have ever produced. The 2012 Napa Cabernet is immediately
drinkable with silky sweet tannins and loads of red fruit. The
wood, acidity and tannins are all in perfect balance so all you get
is the great blackberry, cherry and sweet vanilla. This is the wine
to drink while you wait for your designates to be at peak. Drink
this between 2013 and 2020.

2010 ARAUJO ALTAGRACIA SYRAH
This wine's sibling, the 2010 Eisele Vineyard Syrah, earned a 96
point score from the Wine Advocate. By virtue of sharing the
same vineyard, winemaking team and vintage, many of that
wine's memorable notes — "black olives and plums burst from
the glass in an explosive wine loaded with varietal nuance and
sheer power. The cooler vintage brought out the best. This is a
marvelous, totally compelling wine endowed with massive
concentration and depth... Black fruit, tobacco, savory herbs,
licorice and menthol are layered into the brooding finish" — are
also captured in the Altagracia Syrah. And though the drinking
window should be slightly shorter, we would still expect the
Altagracia Syrah, which is a delight right now, to easily continue
to mellow and improve for years to come.
