For more information about our academic offerings, visit www.uwosh.edu/home/futurestudents/undergraduate/academics. Starting in fall 2013, UW Oshkosh students will be welcomed to the University Studies Program (USP)—a newly created, oneof-a-kind general education program. The USP is the gateway to a 21st century college education where students will be encouraged to explore and question like never before. To learn more about USP, visit www.uwosh.edu/usp. Center for Academic Resources Funded primarily by student differential tuition fees, the Center for Academic Resources (CAR), located in Student Success Center 102, provides free tutoring for undergraduate students. Students can receive individual tutoring for most courses on campus. For students in large, challenging classes, CAR also provides a group-tutoring program called Supplemental Instruction (SI) as an alternative to one-on-one tutoring. SI offers students three hours of prepared group review sessions each week of the semester. Students can attend as many SI sessions as they want, including special exam reviews prior to major tests in the course. Peer Educator Review Sessions (PERS) provide one group tutoring session per week for many classes that do not provide SI. A third service is English assistance. Students for whom English is a second or non-native language often want to build their English skills, and they can schedule individual appointments with the professional English language tutor in CAR. Together, they can work on general or course-specific vocabulary, pronunciation and oral presentations, English grammar and textbook reading. (920) 424-2290 www.uwosh.edu/car Developmental Mathematics Tutoring UW Oshkosh’s Swart Hall room 301 Developmental Mathematics Lab supports students enrolled in Math 100: Elementary Algebra or Math 103: Intermediate Algebra with free walk-in tutoring. The lab is staffed by graduate students and supported by undergraduate tutor assistants. UW Oshkosh is committed to maintaining a safe and secure educational environment and continues to develop new programs and technologies to better protect the campus community. The Counseling Center provides free and confidential time limited services to UWO enrolled students to address their personal, career and academic success. Students receive support and opportunities to develop life skills to manage stress, relationship conflict, depression/anxiety, family issues, substance abuse, body image, self-esteem, relationship or sexual violence, impacts of racism, LGBTQ issues and academic performance and other common issues. UW Oshkosh notifies students of campus emergencies online via the University home page as well as campus-wide email notifications. An Emergency Procedures Guide is available and distributed throughout campus to help students, faculty and staff prepare for and respond to an emergency on campus. Additionally, students are encouraged to sign up to receive emergency messages via text message through Titan Alert. Alerts include University closings, emergencies, inclement weather updates and parking updates. Students can register multiple numbers with Titan Alert by visiting www.uwosh.edu/home/titanalert. In the event of inclement weather, students will be notified of class delays or cancellations via the University home page, campus-wide email and, if registered, Titan Alert. They also can call the weather line at (920) 424-0000. For more information about these and other measures UW Oshkosh has in place to ensure the safety of your student, visit www.uwosh.edu/ home/current-students/safety. 28 Counseling Center services include: •Personal/academic/ career counseling • Crisis intervention and consultation • Group therapy • Career and self-help library • Center for balance • Campus victim advocate • Alcohol education program (920) 424-2061 www.uwosh.edu/couns_center University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Student Health Center UW Oshkosh’s Student Health Center provides a full range of health care services to all registered students. The staff consists of experienced and credentialed professionals, including physicians, nurse practitioners, dietitian, nurses, medical technologists, health educator and support personnel. The Student Health Center’s mission is to offer students primary outpatient medical care and brief psychiatry that is affordable and accessible. We provide a wide range of services to include: wellness care and education, injury care, referrals, allergy injections, sexual health, travel consultations, physicals, laboratory testing and pharmacy service. Most office visits are free; minimal charges apply for supplies, procedures, lab tests and medications. Charges may be paid by cash, check and TitanCard or billed to the student’s University account. The health center does not bill health insurance. Upon request a copy of your charges will be provided for you to submit to your insurance carrier. Please check the website for current price list. To avoid unintended illness, it is recommended that immunizations are current. You may view immunization history and recommendations on the Wisconsin Immunization Registry at http://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/ immunization/wir.htm. There are no immunization requirements for entrance into college. www.universityparent.com/oshkosh It is recommended that all students are covered by a health insurance plan, and carry a copy of their health insurance card. For students who do not have health insurance, information about a plan endorsed by the University can be found at www.uwosh.edu/health_center. Medical care is confidential. If you would like us to share information about care received at student health, please complete a Medical Authorization for Release of Information. The form is found on the student health center website. (920) 424-2424 www.uwosh.edu/health_center University Police The UW Oshkosh Police Department provides a safe environment—24 hours a day, 365 days per year— conducive to personal growth and educational development. The University’s highly trained, educated and professional state police officers provide fair, impartial enforcement of state laws and UW System rules. Student employees serve as Community Service Officers (CSOs), who work in pairs to help provide safety and security by patrolling campus on foot and working station security in the residence halls. The CSOs also provide, by request, safe escorts to students and employees who wish to be escorted at night to or from anywhere within a few blocks of the main campus.
