This guide is part of the Working / Studying Abroad series.
This is not a definitive list. If you are interested in these types of schemes then be
proactive in searching out vacancies with all organisations that interest you.
Not all of these organisations require a second language but still look for evidence of
a global outlook and a willingness to relocate abroad if required. Most offer a range of
roles open to students from any degree discipline. Others will look for Business of
engineering / technical degrees.

All jobs are aimed at final year / PG students and usually start in Autumn 2015/16.

Careers & Employability Service
ABB is a global leader in power and automation technologies. They offer hundreds of entry level
opportunities worldwide and a number of learning possibilities through global and local graduate
Adidas -
The adidas Group delivers state-of-the-art sports footwear, apparel and accessories. Operates a
Functional Trainee Progamme (FTP) with numerous opportunities to build your ideal career.
Allianz -
Allianz Global Investors is a leading active investment manager, operating from 23 locations and 17
countries. Offering candidates a 24 month programme combining a broad overview of the firm with
specific on-the-job training and interpersonal skills training.
Associated British Foods -
Associated British Foods is a diversified international food, ingredients and retail group with sales
of £11.1bn and over 100,000 employees in 46 countries. Individual companies’ graduate schemes
are listed on the website.
AstraZeneca (Operations and Information Services) -
AstraZeneca focus on the discovery, development, manufacturing and commercialisation of
prescription medicines for some of the world’s greatest healthcare challenges. Offers a 3 year
programme in either global procurement, corporate IT and engineering.
BAe Systems -
A global defence, aerospace and security company. Has a three year fast-track programme aimed
at giving individuals a breadth and depth of knowledge from across multiple business areas. There
are two streams within the programme; business and engineering.
Beiersdorf Northern Europe Graduate programme -
Manufacturers of health and skin care products such as Nivea sun creams and Elastoplast. Offers
an 18 to 24month BEYOND BORDERS trainee programme for graduates to gain insights into
different departments and experience a six-month foreign placement.
Bombardier -
Leading aeroplane manufacturer. Their 18-month programme entails multiple tracks in functions
such as Engineering, Logistics, Business Development, Finance, Human Resources and
IT/Information Services.
BSH Hausgeräte GmbH is the largest manufacturer of home appliances in Europe. Their 15-month
trainee programme includes three months at a subsidiary abroad (eg: China, India, the US and
the Netherlands) learning the specific requirements and special features of the market in your
respective country of deployment.
Cargill European Graduate Programme -
Provides food, agriculture, financial and industrial products and services with a commitment to
reducing environmental impact. Offering a two-year development programme, open to European
graduates willing to travel with the flexibility to relocate to other countries as part of their career
Carlsberg -
Carlsberg Group is the fourth largest brewer in the world. For information about possible graduate
programmes, contact the local Carlsberg Group company in the country you are interested in
working in.
Damco -
One of the worlds’ leading providers of freight forwarding and supply chain management services.
Runs a two year programme aimed at developing your skills as an international logistics
DB Schenker -
Offers global logistics expertise with a strong rail foundation. Has an 18 month programme where
you can discover the world of logistics.
Diageo European Graduate Programme -
One of the worlds’ leading premium drinks manufacturers. Over three years you will work on real
projects. This on-the-job training is also supported by additional development.
Easyjet European Graduate Programme -
British low cost airline carrier operating domestic and international flights. You will spend two years
on rotational placements in operations including, IT, finance & procurement, product, strategy &
Implementation, network & pricing and HR.
An international privately owned energy supplier focussing entirely on renewables, energy networks
and customer solutions. You will spend 24 months in placements at different group companies, at
home and abroad, tailored to suit your background and personal interests.
Ericsson -
Leading lights in the digital revolution with one of the industry’s strongest patent portfolios. They
offer a number of roles for graduates with strong academic abilities in engineering, IT, business and
Expedia -
The world’s largest online travel company. They regularly advertise recruitment opportunities on
their website for graduates in a variety of roles.
Goodyear Dunlop European Graduate Programme -
One of the world's largest tyre manufacturers. You will work for one year in your chosen field
undertaking one-week placements every 3 months in different departments in order to learn all
aspects of the business process.
Heineken International Graduate Programme -
Manufacturers of some of the worlds’ leading brands of beer and cider. An 18 month programme
doing three six month assignments in three different countries within a specific function.
A specialist engineering company designing, manufacturing and servicing engineered products that
control the precise movement of fluids. A two year programme with different rotations, getting
exposure to a range of projects and locations around the world.
Infineon -
efficiency, mobility and security. A 12 to 24 months trainee programme where you can develop your
skills in research & development, marketing, controlling, logistics or application engineering.
Inter-Continental Europe Graduate Programme -
Hospitality and hotel trade specialists. 24 months training in the all areas of the industry.
Worldwide holiday firm operator. 18 months experience in a wide variety of international
assignments across the business sector.
J P Morgan European careers -
Global banking and financial services company. Full time graduate opportunities are available in a
variety of areas including finance, HR and technology.
Jungheinrich -
A world leader in the material handling equipment, warehousing and material flow engineering
sectors. Has a two year programme for system/project management and general business
Kingfisher -
International retailer concentrated on the home improvement sector. Run various graduate
programmes across their businesses to recruit and develop junior talent.
Mars European Procurement Leadership Programme -
Global chocolate, food, drink, confectionery and pet care company. A three year programme,
covering all aspects of the business, for students who are interested in being based in Germany.
Nestle -
Manufactures a range of food and beverages including baby foods, pet care and confectionery.
Offers international programmes in marketing and sales, group audit and engineering.
Nordisk (healthcare) -
Global healthcare company specialising in diabetes care, haemophilia care, growth hormone
therapy and hormone replacement therapy. Offers 16 different graduate programmes in a variety of
Reckitt Benckinser European Graduate Programme -
Producers of medicines, medical devices and hygiene related home products. Have graduate
programmes in sales & marketing, supply chains, finance and research & development.
Red Bull European Graduate Programme -
Energy drink manufacturers. An 18 month graduate programme covering a range of different job
functions including HR, IT and media.
One of Europe’s leading electricity and gas companies. An 18-month traineeship, guided by
personal mentors, takes you through various steps in which you are able to face five to six
challenging projects.
Siemens -
One of the world’s largest producers of energy-efficient, resource-saving technologies. Three
challenging assignments in two years, one of them abroad, coupled with intense training on and off
the job.
Sony European Graduate Programme -
Leading producers in technology, content and services including music, film, mobiles, games and
consumer electronics. Recruits talent from all over the world for training predominantly in Japan.
Swire -
Encompasses a diverse range of business sectors including property, aviation, agribusiness and
food chain, marine services and trading and industrial. Offer intern and management trainee
Telefonica Pan-European Graduate Programme -
One of the world leaders in the telecommunications sector. Offers graduate roles, apprenticeships
and internships across Europe in a range of areas.
TKMAX Europe -
A global off-price fashion and homeware retailer. Has graduate programmes in merchandising &
buying, business technology and finance.
TomTom -
Deals with navigation solutions and location based applications. One year Global Graduate
Programme where you gain the unique experience of being employed at an international company
with the possibility of job rotation at another location.
Veolia -
Designs and deploys solutions for water, waste and energy management. Has a 12 to 24 month
programme for young graduates (Pangeo) in engineering, sales development, finance and other
support functions, offering paid international missions.
Volvo -
Provider of transport solutions including a range of trucks, construction equipment and
buses. Graduate programme runs for 12 months and includes a combination of common and
individual graduate activities and day-to-day work at the home company. During the programme,
you will also go on an international assignment abroad.
Public sector opportunities
Civil Service Fast Stream -
The Civil Service Fast Stream helps graduates to make an impact on people’s lives in the UK and
the world, working in areas including education, the economy, foreign affairs, defence policy, health
and the environment.
European Fast Stream and the Diplomatic Service -
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) protects and develops British interests around the
world, through the FCO in London and a network of 270 diplomatic posts in 160 countries.
NOTE: Closing date for applications is 3 November 2015
Security Services: MI5, MI6 and GCHQ all employ linguists, but are particularly interested in
graduates with fluent non-European language skills and cultural appreciation e.g. Arabic, Farsi,
Mandarin, Russian. Visit their websites for further information. - The Security Service (MI5) is responsible for protecting the United
Kingdom against threats to national security. - The Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), often known as MI6,
collects Britain's foreign intelligence. SIS provides Her Majesty's Government with a global covert
capability to promote and defend the national security and economic well-being of the United
Kingdom. - Based at a number of UK sites, their mission is to protect the country’s
people, businesses and interests in the cyber age. They provide intelligence, protect information
and inform relevant policy to keep UK society safe, secure and successful.
EU Institutions - Recruit for 5 month work experience opportunities called “stages”, which run twice
a year. You can apply for administrative experience or translator experience. Translation requires a
degree and two EU community languages as well as your mother tongue.
