Background
Rapid international growth mainly through acquisition left SABMiller facing the challenge of leveraging its
scale to optimise its IT environments. Having reviewed its voice and data communications services, SABMiller
identified numerous legacy contracts with different suppliers across 34 countries leaving it with a mix of
technologies and inconsistent service levels globally.
The project
SABMiller engaged Hudson & Yorke to develop a sourcing strategy, including a phased consolidation of its
global supplier base, with the objective of signing a single global outsource contract with a best-of-breed
vendor. Hudson & Yorke was involved in the global sourcing process, from the production of the request for
proposal (RFP) through to vendor evaluation and contract negotiation. The scope covered all voice and data
services across 34 countries in Europe and Latin America.
Over the course of this engagement, Hudson & Yorke:
• defined the global technology transformation strategy by assessing SABMiller’s global business and ICT
requirements;
• managed the end-to-end process of creating and issuing the global RFP to the market;
• managed the vendor selection process incorporating a robust auditable evaluation methodology;
• developed and finalised the contract schedules for both the voice and data service packs;
• managed and delivered the negotiation phase through to contract signature; and
• led and managed the centralised sourcing team including all regional stakeholders.
Adding value
Through working with Hudson & Yorke, SABMiller was able to consolidate its supplier base across 5 regions,
deliver seamless interoperability of regional networks, improve application performance through end-to-end
service levels, standardise technology and processes reducing integration time following merger and
acquisition activity, and become more agile through a significant reduction in the time and cost required to
implement new global applications. As a result of Hudson & Yorke’s extensive sourcing experience and
knowledge, SABMiller signed a 5 year, $120m global voice and data managed services contract with
significantly improved terms and service levels whilst obtaining a 15% cost saving.
