Editorial Calendar Subject To Change; Last Updated: September 2015 Copies also found their way to the basement office of The Phoenix, the student-run newspaper at Swarthmore College, which operated with a volunteer staff and a shoestring budget. Andy Low was a managing editor at the Phoenix in the spring of 1971. He helped put out the Friday edition of the twice-weekly paper. And Thursday, April 1, he was preparing for another late night at the newspaper's office in the student center, getting the paper ready for press. Late that afternoon, Low, now an attorney at Davis Graham & Stubbs in Denver, was contacted by the paper's editor, Martha Shirk. She needed to show him something, right away.
