All about eLearning
eLearning is a canopy term that encompasses all kinds of learning done through a computer or a mobile
device which is referred to as mLearning, usually connected to a network. Other terms which are frequently
interchanged with eLearning include: online learning, online education, technology enabled learning,
web based learning or computer based learning (usually associated with learning from CD-ROM). It has
been now widely accepted that eLearning can be as rich and valuable as any learning or even better.
Instructional Design for eLearning has evolved and has now achieved new heights of perfection using
established teaching principles, with many benefits to students. As a result, universities, businesses and
organisations worldwide now offer their students fully accredited online degrees, vocational courses and
continuance educational programme in abundance.
There are various types of eLearning which is often a combination of the following:
• Self-Paced Learning: Means learning at your own pace. Lessons can be delivered through
HTML pages, PDF pages or Web Based Training (WBT), which is explained in detail below.
• Synchronous: Means live or learning at the same time, e.g. a Live Virtual Classroom (defined
below) or a live Chat
• Asynchronous: Means not live or offline e.g. Discussion board.
• Virtual Lab or Simulation: Means digital reproduction of essential features of any product or
process or machine for the purpose of training or demo.
eLearning is accompanied with various benefits, like:
• Convenience, portability and reach: eLearning makes learning possible anytime and anywhere.
It avoids physical travel and enables learning at your own speed, not too slow or fast. It just
requires a computer and internet connection, making it a truly anytime, anywhere learning. In
addition, mobile learning increases reach and portability.
• Cost-effective: Prices in digital world are falling; quality and availability are improving. Typically,
online courses can be cheaper by 25-30% whilst offering comparable or even better quality
education.
• Promotes collaborative learning: eLearning provides multiple tools for collaboration, this
includes Discussion board, Chat, Live Virtual Classroom (LVC) and Breakout sessions which can
be conducted during LVC. Thus, it promotes collaboration amongst students as well as between
students and teachers.
• Wide array of courses: It is possible to access wide array of courses; certificate, diploma,
degree, continuing education or vocational courses, all delivered through internet.
• Learn from the best faculties: eLearning enables learning from the best of faculties. While
classroom learning is facing acute shortage of faculties, it is possible to provide high quality
education to masses with a few faculties, using video or archived classes.
• Higher Retention: Studies show that eLearning results in higher retention due to various
benefits that students enjoy in eLearning viz., truly collaborative learning, learning from the best
of faculties, archived classes, facility to study at one’s own convenience and for as many times

• Empowers backward and challenged sections of the society: The reach of eLearning and
non-requirement of face-to-face contact (and hence less intimidating) actually empowers masses
in backward regions, small towns, women, physically challenged and socially backward sections
of the society. In fact, eLearning truly promotes an all-inclusive way of education and provides
quality education to all unlike the present system, where good quality education is denied to
many sections of the society for reasons what so ever.
• Global Opportunities: eLearning opens up global opportunities, as even the best of degrees
and certificates are offered to all, which otherwise may be restricted to few.
• Truly Student-Centric Learning: eLearning empowers students with a host of features like
collaborative learning, never missed classes due to archived lessons, multiple modes of learning

In eLearning there are some important terms which one will have to familiarise themselves with, such as:
Learning Management System (LMS): LMS provides administrative tools like Course Management,
Student Management (like UID/PWD, Profile Management etc) and Faculty Management. It also
facilitates course delivery, tracking and assessment. It also provides host of other features like Billboard
(for announcement etc), collaborative learning platform like Discussion board, Chat etc.
Live Virtual Classroom (LVC): LVC mimics physical classroom but is delivered over the internet. It has
features like Multi way Audio and Video, Hand raising, Yes/No remark, Live assessments, Web safari
(live tour of any web site during the class), Break-out sessions, Software application sharing (for training
on software or for demonstration purpose), etc. In most cases, the facility of viewing archived classes is
also available.
Web Based Training (WBT): WBT is a course delivered through the Internet and may use one or more
multimedia features like Audio, Image, Flow charts, Illustrations, Animations, Video etc. A WBT course is
plugged into the Learning Management System (LMS).
Video Based Training™ (VBT): VBT is patented by GOLS. VBT is a course delivered in video format
through the internet. It acts like personal tutor and mimics physical classroom delivered in self paced
manner, a truly anytime, anywhere learning. A VBT course is also plugged into LMS providing features
like tracking and assessment.
Audio Based Training™ (ABT): ABT is also patented by GOLS. ABT is replica of VBT excepting that
ABT contains PPT slide / instructions / flow charts / process diagrams, animation and voice over of
faculty (as against video of faculty in VBT). ABT is meant for narrow bandwidth connections like dial-up,

Can I extend the course if I am unable to complete it in time?
Except in cases, where courses start and end on fixed duration and as a measure of good will to our
esteemed learners, we shall extend the course duration up to 25% of duration of the course, on receiving
an email request and at our sole discretion. However, any further extension of duration of the course, will
be allowed only on payment of 50% of fees, for course duration extension up to 50% and beyond that

How will I receive the certificate?

Whilst the above topics remain same for all the three levels of Soft-Skills training, it is the levels of
training that is different for all the three levels. In addition, advance level soft-skills training also teaches
workplace fairness policies, such as sexual harassment or workplace discrimination. Course duration for

Remuneration: Remuneration in this field varies according to the nature of event that is managed.
For a fresher, the starting salary offered ranges between Rs. 8,000 and Rs. 10,000. Once an individual
gains enough experience in this field, event managers command fees from Rs. 50, 000 to Rs. 1 lakh or
above per month depending upon their ability. Those engaged in managing small get-togethers, birthday
