The National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH) is the
only non-profit, student-run organization promoting diversity and
inclusion in the hospitality industry. The mission of NSMH is to
educate in order to aid in the recruitment, retention, support and
advancement of minorities in the hospitality industry. Over the
past eighteen years, NSMH has been working toward its vision of
becoming nationally recognized as the premier organization for
developing exceptional minority student talent and leadership.
As a non-profit, student-run organization we rely heavily on the
support of the organizations that seek to gain from our diverse
membership and talent. Our sponsorship brochure outlines a
range of opportunities and benefits for each of our levels of support. As we rely on organizations that truly understand what diversity is about, we encourage your company to participate at the
highest level possible.
Since our beginnings at Cornell University in 1989, NSMH has
been offering something unique to the hospitality industry; it
serves as the one-stop-shop for some of the biggest players in the
industry by providing quality minority talent that will grow from
today’s students into tomorrow’s leaders. Our members are making their mark in the industry by becoming managers in the companies that support them in their quest to expand their personal
and professional development.
Over the past years, our national conference and career fair has
been the place where our members and supporters come together
to network and discuss all things related to hospitality.
Adrian D. Torres
Your company’s participation at these events is critical to our future success
as we continue to grow each year. At last year’s national conference
in Dallas, Texas we showed a remarkable presence as record attendance was reached once again; and when we turn toward Seattle
for our 18th Annual National Conference, we will once again be
reaching new ground.
The momentum that characterizes our organization is carried on
through the success of our members. We are dedicated to strengthening relationships with key industry partners, and we are excited
about taking NSMH to the next level.
Please know that companies like yours are essential to our organizational growth and development by providing the critical resources needed to accomplish our important work. We trust this
material will address any initial questions, and we look forward to
discussing NSMH sponsorship opportunities with you in further
detail.

RECEPTION AND MEAL DESCRIPTIONS
THURSDAY WELCOME RECEPTION:
The welcome reception is the first official networking function for
the National Conference. It takes place immediately following the
Opening Session—a high-energy start to NSMH’s biggest event of
the year. Cultural or local entertainment is typically highlighted
during this reception. Although there are no speaking opportunities at the actual Welcome Reception, 5-10 minutes of welcome
remarks may be available at the Opening Session.
FRIDAY LEADERSHIP BREAKFAST:
This plated breakfast occurs prior to the main educational portion
of the conference. There is an opportunity for a keynote address
of 15-20 minutes at this meal function. The focus of this breakfast
is leadership and the importance of education.
FRIDAY MORNING SNACK BREAK:
This sponsorship provides refreshments between morning
workshop sessions. Company logo will be displayed alongside
refreshments.
FRIDAY S.T.R.E.N.G.T.H. LUNCHEON:
Started in 1999, the term S.T.R.E.N.G.T.H. stands for “Students
Taking Responsibility in Engineering New Growth Through
Hospitality”, and it focuses on NSMH’s commitment to giving
back to the community, with a focus on high school initiatives.
This luncheon offers a 15-20 minute keynote speaking engagement. During this luncheon, NSMH awards scholarships to high
school students, and a scholarship donation from the HIRE group
is presented.
FRIDAY AFTERNOON SNACK BREAK:
This sponsorship provides refreshments between afternoon
workshop sessions. Company logo will be displayed alongside
refreshments.
FRIDAY EVENING NETWORKING SUITES:
In order to further increase the “face time” that corporate sponsors have with students prior to the Annual Career Fair, NSMH
is pleased to offer Networking Suites. Companies are able to
purchase hospitality suites or portions of hotel meeting space
through NSMH in order to have more time to promote their
internships, job opportunities and to sign students up for interviews. Please note that each company is responsible for covering
any additional food and beverage expenses for its suite and should
coordinate those arrangements with the hotel directly. There will
only be a limited number of suites available, price and size will
vary. No corporate networking or informational sessions planned
outside of the NSMH agenda will be advertised or sanctioned as
“official NSMH events”.
SATURDAY SNACK BREAK:
This sponsorship provides refreshments during the career fair and
interviewing periods. Company logo will be displayed alongside
refreshments.
SATURDAY CREATIVE BOXED LUNCH:
Due to space constraints, we will have a boxed lunch break during
the career fair. Profile your company creatively for this lunch
sponsorship. You may decide to put a logo sticker on the box,
insert a corporate brochure or any other creative way getting
visibility of your company. The sponsor of this luncheon will be
have an ad in the official NSMH Career Fair Guide and will be
recognized in all conference promotional materials.
SATURDAY AWARDS GALA:
The official close to NSMH’s pinnacle event of the year, the Saturday Awards Gala is a black tie event celebrating all of the year’s accomplishments. This meal function provides an opportunity for
a 30-minute keynote address, preferably a motivational speaker.
The program of the awards gala further includes sponsor scholarship presentations, presentation of the most notable chapter
awards, and announcement of the newly elected National Board
officers for the following year. The sponsor of the Awards Gala is
also given the privilege of being the first company to announce its
scholarship recipient(s).
SATURDAY PRE-SUPERBOWL AFTER PARTY :
Students look forward to unwinding after a great NSMH conference. This year the Awards Gala is the night before the Super
Bowl. Lend your company’s name to a Pre-Super Bowl Party
following the Awards Gala. Provide mini footballs with your
company’s logo, raffle off football paraphernalia, have a football
trivia contest or an array of other creative ideas you can come up
with to give your company great visibility and provide an entertaining atmosphere for the conference participants.
NATIONAL CONFERENCE CONTINENTAL
BREAKFAST
This time will also be used to promote and pre-register registrants
for the 2008 conference being held in the northeast region. There
are no speaking opportunities associated with this breakfast.
*Please note that in order to keep in line with its mission and audience, NSMH
aims to feature high profile speakers who represent diverse backgrounds and
sectors of the hospitality industry. Submission of a proposed speaker and
sponsorship offer for the following meal functions does not guarantee a speaking
engagement. A speaker confirmation agreement from NSMH’s Headquarters will
be provided. Please refer to the keynote speaker guidelines provided by HQ for
further details. All sponsorship opportunities are on a first come basis. We will
accept sponsorship commitments for the 2007 conference now.
All meal function sponsorships offer visibility in the form of LCD-projected logos,
recognition in conference promotional materials, the NSMH conference website,
conference journal, and meal programs. With the exception of snack breaks, networking suites, and the Sunday breakfast, all sponsorship amounts are based on
an anticipated participation of approximately 600-700 conference attendees, which
is comprised of students, faculty advisors, sponsors, alumni, and other industry
representatives. The company sponsoring each meal function will also have one
table of 10 reserved at the front of the room.
