The American Red Cross of North Georgia provides relief to victims of disasters. In addition, The Red Cross assists citizens in
the North Georgia area prepare for and respond to emergencies. The thirteen counties served by the Red Cross are Dawson, Fannin, Forsyth,
Gilmer, Habersham, Hall, Lumpkin, Pickens, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White.

Immediate response to a variety of disasters including house or apartment fires, hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, and other
natural and man-made disasters.
Assistance to those with needs due to disaster such as clothing, food, shelter, and replacement of prescription medicines.
Two (2) nights of hotel/motel lodging
Client Assistance Card (debit card-like) for food and clothing
Amount of assistance is based upon preset guidelines

Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization that provides low cost food
assortments to people across the United States. There is a different menu each month and families can buy a
box of food worth about $65 for only $30. This box can feed a family of four for approximately a week.
There is no limit on how many boxes a month a family can buy and each box contains fresh, frozen and prepackaged items. There is no application to complete and no income limits. Orders can be made online or by
contacting a host site. Orders are received at the beginning of the month and food is delivered within that
same month.

Avita Community Partners is a community agency that helps individuals and families affected by mental illness, developmental
disabilities, and substance abuse. Avita also has school based services with counselors available at every Hall County School. There is a
fee for some of Avita’s services. Peachcare, Medicaid, and private insurance are accepted. In addition, a sliding fee scale based on
income.

In addition to: Counseling, Rehabilitation and Community Support, Employment Support, and Medical Support:
Ambulatory Detox Program- specialized outpatient detoxification program that focuses on the medical management of
mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms. This program utilizes physician, nursing and counselor consultation, screening,
diagnostic assessment, and short-term outpatient treatment. Ambulatory detox provides 24 hour / seven days a week
admission availability and support services for individuals who are chemically dependent.

Counseling- Short-term individual, family, and group educational and counseling .Group sessions and classes offer the
following: living skills, medication management, anger and stress management, anxiety and phobia symptoms
management, self-esteem boosters, parenting skills, and depression recovery techniques.
Rehabilitation and Community Support- Personnel and Peer Support Specialists offer help managing everyday
activities
Employment Support- Offering job skills training and support to individuals facing mental illness
Medical- Depending on treatment needs, medical services may be available including physician and nursing care,
medication management, and pharmacy services.
In addition to: Employment Support, and Medical Support:
Personal and Social Services- Individuals with developmental disabilities who live in their own residences may receive
personal, social, and community support related to self care and household maintenance. Assistance with shopping,
paying bills, participation in community activities, and other personal issues is provided. Twenty-four hour support is
available for those living with a host family.
Host / Respite Care- Respite Service is available for families or caregivers who need a break from providing full-time
care to an individual with a developmental disability. Respite may be used for short or long periods; from a few hours to
several days. Not always available, must speak with staff for additional information.
Child and Adolescent Services
♦ Mental Health Services- counselors available to work with children and adolescents on a variety of issues
♦ Substance Abuse Services- Services and assessment provided for children and adolescents
Clubhouse model- treatment and social activities in a “fun” environment. Intervention and prevention
• Children ages 12-18 will be eligible, hopefully to serve about 50 children a month.
• Children identified by school system, court, and parents
Crisis Prevention and Intervention- Rapid response to critical situations. Supportive counseling, consultation, and
identification of resources and referrals.
Medical- Depending on treatment needs, medical services may be available including physician and nursing care,
medication management, and pharmacy services.

The Boys and Girls Club of Hall County work with youth from all backgrounds to help each child develop
into responsible citizens and leaders. Participants must be residents of Hall County. Many of the schools in the area
offer transportation to the center.
Cost: $25 per school year and $100 per summer for children ages 6-18.
Persons who are residents of the
Gainesville Housing Authority receive free membership.
Hours of operation:
During the school year-Monday-Friday 2:00-6:30 pm for ages 6 to 12. The Teen Center is open
from 3:30-9:00 pm for ages 13-18.
During the summer- Monday-Friday 7:00 am-7:00 pm
Programs offered:

In partnership with Lakeview Academy, after-school homework assistance for school-aged children.

Sports league that includes soccer, flag football, volleyball, etc. There are various programs offered within the recreation area and
opportunities are afforded to members ages 13 and up to participate as coaches and referees.

Arts Core Program- Includes fine arts, photography, creative writing, poetry and performing arts
•
Character and Leadership Development Core Program- There are 4 different clubs in this area that allow students to be active
in the community and gain leadership skills

Education and Care Development- Allows students to focus on educational success through different programs such as Power
Hour and Goals for Graduation
•
Health and Life Skills- Help students with goal setting and decision-making with programs such as Street SMART, SMART
Girls, SMART Moves, and ACT Smart.

Brenau Center for Counseling and Psychological Services offers individual, couples, family, and child/adolescent
counseling. Counseling is provided by second year, graduate students of Clinical Counseling Psychology. These
student counselors are supervised by licensed professional counselors or licensed psychologists. Sessions last
approximately 50 minutes.
FEES: $25 for the first session, $20 for each visit after.

Center Point is a faith-based, non-profit youth developmental program. Mentoring, counseling, and other
indirect and direct services offered.
Services Offered:
•
Counseling Services- A general practioner is available to counsel individuals and families in areas such as
anger management, divorce, marriage and general clinical work. Groups are also available. Interns from area
colleges work with students in Gainesville City and Hall County School Systems. Medicaid is not accepted and
services are provided on a sliding scale.
• Release-time education- Students from Gainesville and Johnson High School have the opportunity to take
classes in ethics, literature, the new and old testaments, media, and values for elective credit.
• Mentoring- School based program available to students in the city and county schools. Offering adults to
provide support and friendship to area students.
• Prevention education♦ Power Teams- Participation in local-area middle schools. Students participate in leadership training.
♦ SWAT Teams- SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco) Teams are comprised of middle and
high school students who educate the public concerning the dangers of alcohol and tobacco.
♦ Media Literacy- Media Literacy trains students to identify how the media target youth in their
advertising of alcohol and tobacco.

Challenged Child and Friends is a non-profit childcare agency for both special needs and typically
developing children. Challenged Child and Friends provides educational, therapeutic, nursing, and family
support services to children with disabilities. Children in the Northeast Georgia area are eligible. Referrals are
received from Babies Can’t Wait, medical offices, school systems, and self-referrals. Services are available on
a sliding scale fee and scholarships are offered

• On-site occupational, speech, and physical therapy. The center bills individual insurance providers,
including Medicaid, for therapy services

The Chattahoochee Baptist Association serves residents in the Hall County area. Families must be in the
Hall County area and must provide social security card, proof of residency and picture i.d. when requesting
assistance.
Services offered:
•
Food Pantryo Hours of Operation- M, W, F 9-11 am
Every 90 days families can receive grocery items such as meats, dry goods, canned
goods, soups, lunchmeat, eggs, etc. Senior citizens and shut-ins can receive food
every 30 days.
As needed a family can receive perishable items such as bread, produce, bagged
salads, soft drinks, etc.
Qualifying individuals must have a family income of less that $1,800 a month.

Furniture Assistanceo Hours of Operation- M, W, F 9-11 am
Furniture such as beds, sofas, etc. are available as needed along with appliances,
linens, dishes and other household items. Selection varies weekly.
Families must have valid residence and must be able to safely haul items
Secret Santa- Provides toys and clothes for children at Christmas.

Parents fill out registration
form for children. Families must meet residency and income requirements.
•
Camp Hope- Summer camp for underprivileged children in the first through sixth grades
•
Back to School Hair Cuts and Shoes- Ministry that gives school aged children a $10
gift card for shoes. In addition, socks and book bags are also given along with haircuts.

Children with Special Needs is a program for children from birth to age 21 with either developmental
delays, chronic illnesses, or at high risk to develop medical or developmental disabilities. There are four programs
underneath Children with Special Needs. Each program targets a specific age group and has services coordinated
for this population.
Programs:
Babies Can’t Wait
Babies Can’t Wait is an early intervention program for children from birth to three years old. Babies Can’t Wait
provides services to the following counties: Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens,
Towns, Union, and White. The program serves children with developmental delays and their families. Services include:
assistive technology, audiology, family training and counseling, certain health services, medical diagnostic services, certain
nursing services, nutrition services, occupational, physical, and speech/language therapies, psychological services, social
work, special instruction, vision services and transportation to services.
Children 1st
Children 1st serves as an assessment and referring agency for identifying newborns who have or are at risk for poor
health and development. An in-home assessment is first completed by staff to identify any needs that the family may have.
Children 1st links families with healthcare providers in the area, as well as offers referrals to other resources. This is a free
program for all who choose to participate. There are no financial eligibility requirements.
High Risk Infant Follow-up (HRIFU)
HRIFU is for infants who may be at an increased risk for morbidity or mortality because of a diagnosed
health or
medical condition. Services include in-home case management and coordination with healthcare providers as need.
There are no financial eligibility requirements.
Children’s Medical Services (CMS)

CMS provides medical care for children birth to twenty-one years old that have a chronic disease or disability.
Eligibility is also based on financial requirements. Children receive long-term, specialized care, medical equipment,
physical, occupational, and/or speech therapies, and nursing services. THE MEDICAL ELIGIBILITY INCLUDES, BUT IS
NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:
burns
• neurological and neurosurgical conditions (including
cardiac conditions
epilepsy and hydrocephalus)
chronic lung disease (including cystic fibrosis)
• orthopedic and/or neuromuscular disorders (including
craniofacial anomalies (including cleft lip/palate)
scoliosis)

• diabetes mellitus
hearing disorders
congenital or traumatic amputation of limbs

Children’s Center for Hope and Healing offers services to families dealing with childhood sexual abuse.
Children who are victims of childhood sexual abuse and their families, adult female survivors of childhood sexual
abuse, sexually reactive children and adolescents, and adolescent offenders are eligible for services. Assistance is
offered to families residing in the following counties: Banks, Barrow, Dawson, Forsyth, Habersham, Hall, Jackson,
Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White. Referrals can be made by DFCS, court system, and by
individuals and families.
Services Offered:
Victim Services- Therapy offered to children ages 4-17 (though younger children have been worked with).
Therapy is focused on keeping children safe by working with parents to develop safety plans and teaching children
about safety. Play therapy and art therapy is utilized as well as some group therapy. Cost of therapy is free for
victims.
Women’s Services- Group therapy offered to women who are survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Cost is free
for these women.
Project Pathfinder- Specializes in working with children who have sexual behavior problems. Treatment
typically lasts about 2 years. Psychosexual Evaluations are also performed by staff and is usually requested by the
judicial system. There is a fee for psychosexual evaluations. There is also a fee for Pathfinder services but those
are provided on a sliding scale.

Senior Life Center- Facility open to residents of Hall County ages 60 and over. The center operates from
8am-5pm. The center offers exercise activities, games, and day trips. A lunch is also available to
participants. Transportation to the center as well as grocery and retail stores, dental and doctor
appointments is provided free of charge
Meals on Wheels- One hot meal provided 5 days a week to senior citizens and individuals who are
homebound. Meals can be free, paid for by the government or paid for by individuals or family of an
individual.
Telephone Reassurance Program-Volunteers call person who are unable to their homes. Phone calls are
made daily and referrals are made if services are needed.
Assistance- Emergency Assistance helps seniors who are having difficulty paying for utilities and
Prescription Medication Assistance helps seniors who are having difficult paying for medication.

Medicaid- provides health care services to individuals that meet the requirements for income, resources
and citizenship. Must have social security card. Pregnant Medicaid, Right from the Start Medicaid (for
children 0-19 years of age).
Emergency Medical Assistance- Assistance available for paying emergency medical bills for persons
who are ineligible for Medicaid due to citizenship or other reasons This includes the cost of labor and
delivery but doesn’t include Emergency room visits.
The Childcare and Parent Services (CAPS) Program- assists very low-income families afford quality
childcare.
Energy Assistanceo Energy Crisis- Available for eligible seniors, homebound, or households with life-threatening
issues during November each year. Availability to the public begins in December until the
program ends. Assistance is available to those who have received a service disconnection or
disconnection notice.
o Weatherization- Program provides low-cost energy improvements to eligible households.

Assistive Devices- Assistance in locating and possibly purchasing devices. In addition, there is equipment
available for loan while an individual is waiting for their own devices.
Computer and Assistive Technology Training- CATT is available for individuals to try out assistive devices to
see if they will work for a particular disability. In addition, computer and software training for devices is also
available.
Home Modifications- Offering home modifications in order for persons with disabilities to live more
independently.
Transition Programs- Offering assistance with individuals with disabilities currently living in a nursing facility
help with the transition to more independent living. In addition, assistance is provided to youth with disabilities
who are transitioning from high school to adult living.
Support Group-. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m. at Lakewood Baptist Church
in Gainesville.

Eagle Ranch offers a Christ-centered home for boys aged 8-16 and girls aged 8-14. Children with mild to
moderate emotional and/or behavioral problems are accepted. However, children with an I.Q. score of below 70,
have recent homicidal or suicidal ideations, have history of sexually offending behaviors or perpetration, or who are
drug/alcohol dependent are not eligible. Child must have health insurance and the family must live within 80 miles
of the facility. The average stay for a child is between 18 and 24 months. Fees are based on a sliding scale.

Home Environment- There are six homes that house up to seven boys each and two homes that house up to six
girls at a time.

• Family Transitional Ministries- Helps families make the transition from homelessness by providing

• GHAIN- (Gainesville-Hall Assistance and Information Network) - GHAIN links persons in need to

Good News Clinic provides non-emergency primary care including general medicine, dermatology, pediatric,

Laurelwood offers treatment and stabilization for adults and adolescents who have substance abuse or
emotional/behavioral issues. Laurelwood provides different levels of care based on a patients needs that include
intensive outpatient, day partial hospitalization, and inpatient stabilization. The initial assessment is free. The

Medlink is a family medical practice that offers affordable medical assistance. Medlink accepts most insurance;

Prevent Child Abuse Gainesville is an agency that educates individuals and the community about preventing
and recognizing child abuse. Programs are for parents who have children up to age 18 or who are expecting.
Referrals come from DFCS, the court system, incarcerated parents, and any parent who want to learn parenting
skills.
Programs Offered:
• Positive Parenting- a 9 week class for English speaking families who are expecting or have children up
to 9 years of age.
• Arroba Hispanic Parenting Program- an 8 week class for Hispanic parents who are prenatal or have
children up to 18 years of age.
• Empower Parents- a 9 week class for parents with children between the ages of 10 and 18 years of age.
• Hall County Detention Center Program- Parenting program for parents who are currently incarcerated.
• Work Release Program- Weekly parenting meeting for parents who are in the Hall County Work
Release Program
• After School Anti-Bullying and Self Esteem- Classes offered through after school YMCA in the
elementary schools.

Salvation Army is an organization that provides basic needs assistance to families including food, clothing,
and shelter. In addition, extra help is given during Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Short-term housing for men and women. Lodge consists of one big room with 9 beds for men, 6 beds for
women, 1 emergency room that can be used for handicapped and 6 family rooms (2 beds and 1 sleeper
sofa). Individuals can stay at the lodge for a seven-day period, every 90 days, without meeting any further
requirements. Individuals can stay up to 90 days if they have a job and pay $50 for weekly rent. The rule is
waved if the wind chill factor drops below 32 degrees or the nighttime heat index is above 95 degrees.
Check in begins at 4:30 and ends at 10:00 pm. Lights are out at 10:30pm. Supper is served at 6 pm and
breakfast is at 6 am. The lodge is empty at 8 am. If space is available a person can stay for one night
without identification. Intoxicated individuals are not allowed in the lodge. It is mandatory for individuals
to attend church.

have a job and budget.

The SOURCE program provides in-home case management and care to people with chronic illnesses. SOURCE is
offered by the Department of Community Health through Legacy Link, Inc. SSI/Medicaid is required. Applicants
must be over 65 years of age with a chronic medical condition or under 65 years of age and disabled. There
is no waiting list. Services are available to suit the needs of the patient. Parents may accept/reject any services they
do not want. Counties served include Banks, Dawson, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Stephens, and White.
All SOURCE participants must have a PCP (primary care physician) that is in the SOURCE network.

Teen Pregnancy Prevention Inc is committed to addressing the issue of teenage pregnancy and its prevention
by providing comprehensive and age appropriate prevention programming, counseling and support services, and
community education and awareness programs.
All Services are free and all programming happens in the schools during the school day. Most program participants
are referred by school guidance counselor. Any pregnant teen enrolled in school can participate in the program for
pregnant/parenting teens.
