Week 5
13th August, 2015
Dear Parents,
A few years ago, Pope Benedict had a question and answer session with a
group of First Communion children. When the Pope was asked about his memories of his First Communion, his response contained the following: “I understood that Jesus had entered my heart, he had actually visited me. And with
Jesus, God himself was with me. And I realised that this is a gift of love that is
truly worth more than all other things that life can give.”
Holy Communion is an incredible gift and the amazing thing about the gift is
that it can be unwrapped time and time again in our lives, and every time we do
this, the gift will be brand new. Each new unwrapping gives us the opportunity
to gain a better understanding of what the gift actually is.
In 2003, Pope John Paul II published a letter on the Eucharist and gave a clear
insight into the nature of the gift: “We talk of the Real Presence of Jesus in the
Eucharist, because Jesus’ presence in the Eucharist is a presence in the fullest
sense, where Jesus is wholly and entirely present. The Consecration at Mass
changes the whole substance of the bread into the substance of the Body of
Christ and the whole substance of the wine into the substance of his Blood.”
Adapted version.
When St Paul wrote to the people of Corinth, he gave the earliest description of
the Last Supper in the New Testament. Paul points out that Jesus said, “This is
My Body”, and that he did not say, “This is a symbol of My Body”. Jesus was
most definite in what he said: “This is My Body” and, likewise, “This is My
Blood”.
Pope John Paul further reminds us that we are all united through the Eucharist,
that though we are many we share one bread. Bread is made up of many
grains of wheat but in the bread the difference between them is not apparent;
likewise, we are joined to one another and united in Christ through the Eucharist. Hence, we have good reason for a family to celebrate when a family member receives Communion for the first time.

The people who lived and associated with Jesus, had the comfort and support of his actual presence. Jesus foresaw the need for his presence to remain with them so they could carry on with his mission and
so, the events of the Last Supper. For us, who have so many distractions in life, we might sometimes forget about God, forget about the Eucharist, forget to pray each day, forget to read the New Testament.
First Communion day for a family member, can be a time of renewal for all family members, perhaps a
time to unwrap the gift again and discover an understanding that is truly relevant to where we are in life.
The Eucharist is the Sacrament of God’s love and love is something that all of us can use plenty of.
“Jesus, we ask you to bless the children who are to receive you in Communion for the first time. We ask
you to bless each one of us, so that we might have a renewed understanding of your gift of love. Amen.”
Peace and Best Wishes,
Richard Blissenden

PEER REVIEW FOR COMPLIANCE
On Tuesday of this week our Kindergarten Team of Miss Jones, Miss Ahern and Mrs Caulderwood with
Mrs Shahoud, Mrs Tonnet and Mr Blissenden attended a peer review. The review found us to be BOSTES compliance and we received some very positive feedback from the peer reviewers for the work our
school is undertaking. Congratulations to all involved!
STUDENT DISCO 30TH OCTOBER
Early planning is under way – but mark this date in your diary. Two discos will run on the night – one for
Kinder to Year 2 and one for Years 3-6.
STUDENT ABSENCES NOTIFIED BY SMS
For your information in Term 4 Corpus Christi will be trialling the use of SMS messages to parents each
day a student is absent. A written explanation will still be required when your child returns to school. One
parent will receive the following message when your child is away… “Your child __________ was marked
absent from school today. Please provide written explanation for absence upon their return to school. DO
NOT REPLY BY SMS.”
TEMPORARY MEDICATION
A reminder that if from time to time your child requires medication at school – for
example following a recent illness – you are asked to send this to the school office where the office staff will supervise the administration of the medication.
Children should not keep antibiotics etc. with them at school. All medication is to
be administrated at the school office. The only exception is blue Ventolin inhalers which are stored by individual students in their bags.
Students who need to take medication at school must have a medication authorization form completed.
VOICE OF YOUTH
On Wednesday 12th August, we had three students participate in the “Voice of Youth” cluster final in the
Corpus Christi multi-purpose hall. This final included a total of twelve speakers from St Joseph’s, Our Lady of the Rosary, St Nicholas of Myra and Corpus Christi. Each of the students spoke with enthusiasm,
confidence and knowledge about their chosen topic. Our finalists included Christine Muscat, Emily King
and Nicholas Pace. Each of the students proudly represented Corpus Christi and delivered amazing
speeches. Well done! Out of the twelve speakers, Christine in Year Six finished first with her speech on
‘Dare to be Different’. She has now qualified for the semi-finals in the Western Division at Our Lady of
Lourdes, Seven Hills on Tuesday 8th September. Congratulations Christine and we wish you all the best
of luck!

KISS AND DROP
Please be mindful of other families waiting to drop off students and
move out of the Kiss and Drop area once your children have been
safely dropped off. Children should only exit from the left hand side
of the vehicle and can do so at any point along the drop zone.
Please note that this is not a parking zone. The intention is that drivers do not wait in these zones and that they stay in
the vehicle so that throughput is streamlined and traffic queues are
minimised. In reality it only takes a few inconsiderate drivers to overstay in these zones and the system breaks down leading to frustration and traffic delays.
SCHOOL FEES
School fee statements have been sent home to families. It is important to note that this is the final fee
statement for this year (we do not charge fees in term 4). It would be greatly appreciated if families could
finalise payments by Monday 17th August, 2015 so that the school may meet its financial commitments
also.
ARRIVING ON TIME FOR SCHOOL
We have seen a great improvement in the arrival of students arriving before
8.55am. Thank you to all families who are making an effort in this area. A reminder
that supervision commences at 8.25am and students should NOT arrive before
this time.

What people are saying…
What a relief to come across a program
that preserves the dignity of the child,
maintains the self control of both the
parent and the child and is actually easy
to remember when memory is the first
thing to go!
I realized quickly that the 1-2-3 Magic can
be a magnificent preventative measure
that any parent can
use to avoid raising a child, who later
down the line, needs excessive discipline
or grows out of control
Who is running it?
The presenter for this course is Cate Munro
who completed Parentshop’s 1-2-3 Magic® &
Emotion Coaching practitioner training
• An end to the arguing and yelling! • It saved our lives • Simple, sane, effective
This course is being run by a Parentshop® licensed practitioner.
