RESEARCH POSITIONS Postdoctoral Scholar, Earth Systems Science at UC Irvine, 2013 – Work with scientists on designing and carrying out qualitative and quantitative research on energy and climate issues, with a focus on policy implications. Past and current projects include the future of natural gas use and its effect on renewable energy deployment, oil sands and infrastructure, and carbon emissions from biomass feedstocks. Publish research findings in relevant peer-­‐reviewed journals. Researcher, Earth Island Institute, 2009 -­‐ Write, edit, and conduct research for Sourcewatch’s Coalswarm.com, an online wikipedia of energy and environmental information, including listings of current and proposed coal plants and mines across the globe and their estimated environmental and health effects. Postdoctoral Scholar, UCSB Center for Nanotechnology in Society, 2010 -­‐ 2013 Graduate Fellow, UCSB Center for Nanotechnology in Society, 2009-­‐10 Conducted social science research concerning nano-­‐technologies (billionth of a meter) for energy/environmental/health applications. Research involved surveys and public deliberations on expert and public assessments of the risks and benefits of nano applications. Also designed and led a policy brief project based on CNS research involving nano in the California economy, cleantech development, and improving environmental and health safety. Researcher, The National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis, 2007-­‐8 Helped design survey tool, conduct interviews, engage in data analysis, present on findings, and co-­‐write publications for interdisciplinary research project that visually maps out human effects on marine ecosystems within the California Current, building upon the global human impacts study published in Science (Vol. 319: 2008). Researcher, New College of California, 2000-­‐2002 Assisted the New College of California Media Studies Director on researching and creating digital lectures on world history. The CDs are now part of the core curricula for the M.A./PhD program Critical Thinking at Minerva School.
