NEWEGG MARKETPLACE FREQUENTLY-ASKED QUESTIONS PRESENTED BY Q: Does Newegg provide phone support for sellers? A: Newegg’s merchant support team prefers to be contacted via email so they can properly set up a case. However, phone support is available for merchants who wish to set an appointment. You can email marketplaceseller@newegg.com, and/or ask who your Dedicated Category Manager is to set up phone appointments and discuss your objectives. Q: Does Newegg have a Lawn & Garden section? A: Yes; it’s under Home Improvement. Newegg has an Outdoor section, as well. You can download a comprehensive list of the categories and sub-categories in each domain RIGHT HERE. Q: Can sellers ship internationally, using their own label system? A: Yes. Right now, Newegg International has been launched in eight countries, most of which are English-speaking. Here is a slide deck with a bit more information. Newegg works with Pitney-Bowes to work out the tariffs for those countries and the product categories in question. Sellers are welcome to use their preferred method of shipping — Newegg won’t bind you to one freight service company, which can be a concern for many merchants who wish to preserve their current rates. 1 NEWEGG MARKETPLACE FREQUENTLY-ASKED QUESTIONS PRESENTED BY Q: How does Newegg’s apparel category perform? A: Apparel is one of Newegg’s faster-growing categories. A lot of the selling is seasonal, and Newegg works with its merchandising teams to build out seasonal campaigns. The upcoming holiday season, starting with Halloween, is expected to be huge, and lot of business is also done at Christmas. Footwear is also beginning to perform very well. Q: What is the approval process like for adding my products online? A: When adding new products, sellers must visit the Newegg site and submit a Seller Application on this page, HERE. One of Newegg’s Category Managers will reach out and set up an initial phone call. They’ll work with you to get your account set up and provide you with the API key you’ll use with Solid Commerce. Q: Are we allowed to be fulfilled by other marketplaces (such as FBA)? A: Yes. Newegg actually has a large group of merchants that use the multichannel option through FBA, and Newegg is perfectly OK with that. Newegg also has its own fulfillment program, Shipped By Newegg. More info can be found HERE. Their rates are actually lower than Amazon’s, in terms of fulfillment cost. Newegg also offers a multichannel option, allowing you to ship to other channels using Newegg’s service, with that rate also being significantly lower than Amazon’s. 2 NEWEGG MARKETPLACE FREQUENTLY-ASKED QUESTIONS PRESENTED BY Q: Do I sign up for Newegg first, and then sync with Solid Commerce? A: Once you’ve set up your Newegg account, you’ll need to request an API key for Solid Commerce. Then, the Solid Commerce team will take care of the rest. Q: How easy is it to add my products? A: The most important aspect of onboarding to Newegg is mapping your product categories to Newegg’s marketplace taxonomy. Once that has been done, everything else is relatively easy. Q: Is there a category for Pet Products? A: Newegg does indeed have a product category for Pet Products. Q: Are there plans for a repricing tool on Newegg? A: Newegg is currently in the process of developing its own repricing tool. In the very near future, Solid Commerce users will be able to use the Amazon Repricer on Newegg as a workaround. This would allow the Amazon price to be matched over to Newegg. If interest is expressed, Solid Commerce will develop a repricer specifically for Newegg. A tool to match the Amazon price would probably be developed first. 3 NEWEGG MARKETPLACE FREQUENTLY-ASKED QUESTIONS PRESENTED BY Q: Do we list by UPC? A: Newegg does not require UPCs like Amazon. They are aware that there are some issues that come up when UPCs are required; it can cause problems for sellers wishing to sell items in bundles and packs, etc. If the item exists in Newegg’s catalogue, sellers can list via UPC with Solid Commerce, which will sync the product ID for each listing, allowing you to list by either UPC or existing Newegg Product ID. We’ve also just introducted the ability to create new listings on Newegg, meaning Solid Commerce can create new products if they don’t already exist. This functionality currently exists for the apparel category, and Solid Commerce will be adding new categories upon request. Solid Commerce also includes the tools that allow sellers to match up to Newegg’s existing catalogue based on UPC, manufacturer, brand, or MPN. Sellers can match up to Newegg’s existing catalogue based on those factors, in addition to using UPCs to find and sync with existing listings. Q: Do we add to existing listings (like Amazon), or create new ones (like eBay)? A: A bit of both. The way that Newegg structures its content system means that the initial creator of a listing is the “Content Champion.” This user controls the content for that product. Newegg can always update products on its end, too. Based on content that merchants are willing to bring to Newegg, the Content Champion for a product can be changed. 4 NEWEGG MARKETPLACE FREQUENTLY-ASKED QUESTIONS PRESENTED BY Q: How well does the Musical Instruments category perform? A: Musical Instruments are actually classified under the Consumer Electronics field. A few months ago, Newegg brought on a dedicated Category Manager for Musical Instruments and a few other categories. You can reach out to that team HERE. Q: What are the minimum required fields to send products to Newegg? A: This is based on subcategories, with each one requiring different fields. Newegg tries to keep it from getting too complicated. There are a few fields including your seller part number, manufacturer’s part number, pricing, and item image that are required for every category, but this is mostly kept to a minimum. Newegg advises sellers to get items up using the minimum requirements, then add on the additional optional fields, as well. Doing this will help with Google rankings. Q: How does Newegg compare in Google traffic with other marketplaces? A: What sets Newegg apart from other marketplaces is that everything is built into the commission rate. Newegg has product listing ads, keyword campaigns, display ads, and retargeting ads in place throughout the Google network. They’re one of Google’s top ad spenders, and give a lot of exposure to their sellers. Once a seller is in the marketplace, a budget is automatically allocated for the appropriate category and products. 5 NEWEGG MARKETPLACE FREQUENTLY-ASKED QUESTIONS PRESENTED BY Q: What exemptions are there to the required fields? A: Each subcategory might have a required product field that others might not have. For example, in PowerSports, a vehicle type is required, because the Newegg navigation is built around those attributes. Q: Is there a monthly cost to sell on Newegg? A: No! This is one of the best things about Newegg: no monthly cost, no listing fees. The transaction fee is built into a seller’s commission rate. If a seller isn’t making money on Newegg, Newegg isn’t making money from that seller. This is why Newegg goes so far out of its way to bring traffic to its merchants. Q: Would you describe Newegg as a retailer or a marketplace? Will a third-party merchant find itself competing with Newegg? Is Newegg aiming to increase retail or third-party sales? A: Newegg certainly started out as a retailer. The marketplace idea grew out of a customer study that was performed. What they noticed was that customers really enjoyed the shopping experience on Newegg, the value, and the content. Consumers suggested that they would be open to buying other types of products on Newegg. For Newegg, the strategy is to build out a marketplace and break into these other categories. Newegg will always predominately be a Consumer Electronics and Information/Technology retailer, but they wanted to start offering other types of products to their customers, based on customer input. Newegg wants to work with key sellers in other categories, in order to help expand those sales on its marketplace. 6 NEWEGG MARKETPLACE FREQUENTLY-ASKED QUESTIONS PRESENTED BY Q: Will I need an updated Excel tool to list to Newegg? A: You’ll definitely want to make sure that you are using the latest version of Excel to list to Newegg. We recommend this as a rule of thumb because our developers are always pushing out new features and fields. Also, since Newegg is a newly-integrated marketplace, we’ll be updating the tool often to make sure we’re compatible with all of the functionality it has to offer. Q: Does Newegg plan to add an Automotive category with Fitment Compatibility? A: Newegg currently has an Automotive Category, which involves everything from motorsports to automotive parts. It offers Fitment compatibility currently, but is working hard behind the scenes to improve this functionality in a very big way. Look for a huge update in late October 2014. 7
