Discussion-Based Assessments Study Guides
Discussion-Based Assessments (DBAs) are found at the end of each Module beginning with Module 2. You
must complete all DBAs in order to be issued a grade in World History. Please do them in a timely manner. The
longer you wait, the harder it becomes as you might forget information! You may schedule your DBAs using
the appointment scheduler on my announcements page or by calling/texting me when you are ready.
SEGMENT ONE: 4 DBAs
Modules 1 and 2: (DBA 2.08)
Neolithic Revolution What was it? Why did people switch to this method of getting food?
Hammurabi’s Code: We also discussed the historical significance of Hammurabi's Code.
Ancient India: What was the Caste System?
Module 3: (DBA 3.11)
Ancient Greece: Discuss the lasting contributions of the ancient Greeks and ancient Romans
Ancient Rome: Discuss two reasons for the Fall of Rome
Government Systems: Discuss the difference between a direct democracy (Ancient Greece) and a
republic/representative democracy (Ancient Rome). What was the name of the governing body where Roman
representatives would meet regarding government business?

Mesoamerican Civilizations: Identify
Ancient African Kingdoms: Identify
Genghis Khan: What did he do?
The Crusades: What were the Crusades? Who participated and why?
Module 5: (DBA 5.10…after this DBA, we will discuss procedure for the 5.11 sem. exam)
Renaissance: What was the Renaissance period? Where did it start? Share interesting information about
Renaissance artists, thinkers, etc….
Reformation: What was the Protestant Reformation? What started it? Identify and explain two reasons for the
Reformation. What was the outcome? Identify two reformers and what they stood for.

Module 6: (DBA 6.06)
The Enlightenment/Age of Reason: Identify two Enlightenment philosophers and describe their ideas
regarding government. What are natural rights?
Scientific Revolution: Identify two inventions/advancements from this period. What are the two most
important inventions from the Scientific Revolution?
The French Revolution: Identify and describe the three estates. What were the causes of the French
Revolution?
Module 7: (DBA 7.08)
Napoleon: Was Napoleon a success or a failure? Describe one of this successes and one of his failures
Imperialism: What is imperialism? Identify and explain two motives for Imperialism?
Stepping into the Twentieth Century: Who were some of the people to be the first to do something?
Module 8: (DBA 8.11)
WWI: Identify and explain two causes of WWI? What kind of warfare predominated WWI? Identify two
events that led to the US entrance into WWI.
WWII: What countries made up the Allied Powers? The Axis Powers? Why did the US enter the War? How
did the War end in Europe? In Asia?
The Holocaust: What was the Holocaust? What was Kristallnacht? What was the difference between a Ghetto
and a Concentration Camp?
Module 9: (DBA 9.08…after this DBA, we will discuss the procedure for the 9.11 sem. 2 exam)
The Cold War: What was the Cold War? What kind of “warfare” took place and between who? What was
“Containment” and the “Iron Curtain?” What great event marked the end of the Cold War?
International Organizations: What is the UN? NAFTA?
Gandhi: Who was he? What cause was he involved in? What methods did he use?
