THE PS Project News ISSUE 24 July 23, 2011 News from the project front ScSB implements Microsoft Active Directory for PS group of companies Synergycentric Sdn Bhd (ScSB) has started implementation of Microsoft Active Directory (AD) for Puncak Semangat (PS) Group of Companies. The software will be rolled out initially to PS group staff located at Wisma AMTEK before extended roll-out to PS staff at other locations. What is the Active Directory (AD)? Active Directory is the integrated, distributed directory service that is included with Microsoft Windows Server 2008. Instead of managing separate, distinct directory and user ID and password for each application or service, integration to Active Directory allows the IT administrator to add a user easily. Through that single entry, remote access to the network, access to Exchange messaging and to various applications is enabled using the same user account. Once a user logs in to Windows, their Active Directory credential is the key that will automatically unlock all of the applications or services that they have been enabled for, including third party applications that utilize Windows integrated authentication. THE Page 2 PS Project News The benefits of using Microsoft Active Directory (AD) Windows Server 2008 and Active Directory offer the highest levels of reliability and performance so that users can get their work done as efficiently as possible. It also provides a more secure and manageable environment to make the lives of the IT staff easier. Many clients running older operating systems find that their current systems are simply not capable of meeting the expectations of their business for a reliable, dependable, secure, or manageable environment. While many organizations have gotten creative at workarounds and adding in a number of add-ons and utilities to “make do” with their current investments, Windows Server 2008 and Active Directory provide the out-of-the-box functionality organizations need to effectively and efficiently run their businesses. Advantages of using Active Directory 1. Increase the Productivity of Users 2. Reduce the Burden of IT Administration 3. Improve Fault Tolerance to Minimize Downtime 4. Enhance Security to Provide Better Peace of Mind 5. Leverage the Capabilities of Active Directory enabled Applications The Requirement specification for Microsoft Active Directory (AD) Minimum requirement specification for the implementation of Microsoft Active Directory is Windows 7 Professional Edition. Microsoft Active Directory (AD) Implementation Updates The first phase rollout of Microsoft Active Directory (AD) is to staff located at Wisma AMTEK with workstations that meet requirement specifications for AD.
