Language
Learn French, Spanish, Mandarin or Japanese online. Our online high school credit language courses
teach learners to communicate in a new language & learn about cultural diversity. The key resource for the
language courses is Rosetta Stone. Rosetta Stone uses the principles of Dynamic Immersion, an intuitive
method of language acquisition accomplished through the use of a combination of text, images & sound
with increasing levels of difficulty to teach vocabulary & grammar without translation. It is online language
learning at its best.
Students will complete projects, participate in an online class or forum, & complete extension activities
designed to develop reading, writing, speaking & listening in the target language. All courses meet the
Ministry of Education’s learning outcomes. Registered students are required to complete all parts of the
course to receive credit. An optional face-to-face language lab is available once weekly. Students will
need a USB headset with microphone.

CONTROL THEORY & PROBABILITY
Registration
GAME THEORY
This course will teach you how to analyze
games for game play. The goal is for
students to learn how to create
balanced & original game play rather
than just simply copying an existing
design. This course will look at the
mathematics behind game play. Game
theory gives you the mental tools to think
about how different strategies & units
interact. Dominating & Dominated
strategies, circular non-transitive
relationships & strategic moves are
taught. There will be discussions of
projects from beyond the computer game
industry, board & card games will be
analyzed & there will be discussion on
working in the game industry.
Prerequisites: Students who have
completed grade 10 or grade 10 students
with good math scores. Note that this
course & Control Theory & Probability
can be taken in either order.
$545 / 14 sessions .................. Montgomery
This course will teach you mathematics
needed by game designers. It will look
at control theory & how this can be used
to analyze game play. It will also teach
basic statistics, probability,
permutations & combinatorics. Shapely
Values will be covered. In addition to
learning about probabilities, students
will learn how to use random numbers
to generate non-normal probability
distributions. A systems analysis method
for describing game play will be taught.
We will play a couple board games &
use them to illustrate points taught in the
class & analyze game design principles.
Prerequisites: Students who have
completed grade 11, or grade 11 students
with good math scores. Most students
take the Game Theory class first, (it is
a bit easier & more fun), but the two
courses do not depend on each other.
So they may be taken in either order
or simultaneously.
