Menlo College Identity Guide

Menlo College Identity Guide
The Menlo College Identity Guide is a guideline to how Menlo College represents itself
visually to the community and to the general public. The look and feel of all materials and
publications affect how the University’s image is conveyed and perceived. The campus
identity package was designed to help emphasize public awareness by creating a consistent,
unified brand that can be easily recognized and identified as Menlo College throughout the
community. This information is included to assist departments, vendors and designers in
maintaining consistent, precise production of the campus marks and graphics. The goal is to
create one cohesive look and effective visual style among all departments and across all
applications.
Name
The formal name of the College is Menlo College.
Abbreviated Name
The secondary nickname for the College is Menlo. Because of the College’s proximity to
Menlo Park and Menlo School, using the nickname could be confusing, even if it is used on
material intended for an audience that is highly familiar with and close to the College, such
as alumni. To maintain clarity, try always to use the full name.
Logos and Wordmarks
The College’s signature is composed of the Menlo College tree symbol, wordmark and tagline. This signature represents the University as a whole—it’s goals, image, ideas, and values.
This signature should be applied to all college-related documents.
The Symbol
The tree is a part of the logo and should not be used as separate graphic element, except
in the case of major institutional logos that are a variation of the signature logo, such as the
Anniversary logo. It cannot be stretched or manipulated; it must maintain its proportional
shape.
The Wordmark
The wordmark is typeset in the graceful, classic font Goudy Old Style, and describes Menlo
College’s long-standing heritage. In the stacked format, its all-caps typography evokes
strength, while the smaller COLLEGE is letterspaced and tucks under it to hold the mighty
MENLO above it. In banner style, such as on the web, The tree is as tall as the two lines of
text: MENLO COLLEGE is in Goudy Old Style caps, and Silicon Valley’s Business School tucks
under it, flush left in Myriad Pro Condensed, to imply a modern business outlook. By respecting the old (Goudy) and pursuing the new (Myriad), the College image reflected is one of an
forward-thinking institution built on solid tradition, embracing innovation, and technology.
The Tagline
Silicon Valley’s Business School always goes under MENLO COLLEGE. The tagline communicates the College’s proximity to Silicon Valley associating its students and community with
the heart of technology and innovation. It should always be accompanied by the logo. The
primary signature locked with the tagline should be used whenever possible, especially in
advertising and promotional materials.
