Provides options to self-identify as an AB 540 student No Fee to Apply Are students held to non-resident eligibility index? Can fees be sent in via check or is immediate on-line payment required? Admission Fee Waiver Eligibility AB 540 Students are eligible if they meet income guidelines Not Eligible Ability to Participate in EOP/EOPS Still eligible to receive UC EOP services (even though not CA resident) Not Currently eligible; Will be eligible once CA Dream Act (AB 131) takes effect Not Currently Eligible; Will be eligible once CA Dream Act (AB 131) takes effect When students will be eligible to apply under CA Dream Act? Turning in ‘NonResident Tuition Exemption’ Affidavit & Final HS Transcript(s) Student turns in final transcript to office of admissions. Student turns affidavit & transcripts to Admissions. Freshman are not officially coded (and exempt from nonresident tuition) until affidavit & final HS transcript are received & processed ~ Usually late July ~ after orientation is over. Final Transcripts not required at all CCCs (CCSF does not require transcripts) When is affidavit coded? MUST turn in at each College or University Affidavits are submitted through the office of the registrar. Timing of Official AB 540 Status Varies by School AB540 status will show up on their record. Student can check on student portal (WEB 4 @ CCSF) How will student be informed of approval? Is it possible to use affidavit to adjust fees prior to formal coding of AB 540 status? Students are informed by letter or email. Student Intent to Register (SIR)/ Admission Acceptance Offer Freshman SIR Date: May 1st Transfer SIR Date: June 1st $100 non-refundable fee (could be applied towards upcoming semester) Usually May 1st. Fee required; Some schools will waive fee if student has scholarship deferment. Not Required but very important students know their registration date! If students miss this date, it is very likely they will not get the classes they need. Super IMPORTANT not to miss deadline! Potential Roadblocks Orientation UCs CSUs Required for incoming students. Students can receive a fee waiver for “CalSo”. Required for Freshman. Recommended for Transfers. Payment Required. No fee waivers @ SF State. If not able to attend, student should contact EOP. Requirements for Signing up for Classes Meeting with EOP counselor & attending Summer Bridge is highly recommended. Students are not required to pay for classes prior to registering. CCCs Required for All Incoming Students. No fee for Orientation. Important to attend as student will sign up for two classes. Incoming Students must meet with an advisor. Students might be required to pay tuition in full or make a partial payment in order to register for classes. Students can obtain scholarship deferment with proof of award. Must complete 1-4 in order to Register: 1.Apply 2. Placement Test 3. Orientation 4. Counseling 5. Register for Classes Suggested to meet with an EOP counselor. Incoming Freshman must attend orientation. Student cannot have outstanding balance due & register for classes. Paying for Classes/Fee Payment Deadlines: Fee deferment plans available (broken into ¼ installments) VERY IMPORTANT to send proof of scholarship awards to the University as soon as possible. Students with scholarships should send proof of scholarship and award checks to the school. Proof of Immunization is required; Pay full tuition, sign up for installment plan or obtain a scholarship deferment; Students with scholarships should send proof of scholarship and award checks to the school. Late fee if tuition isn’t paid before school Installment Plan is approximately ½ up front, then 2 more monthly payments ; Students are not currently required to pay fees prior to registering for classes. CCCs might have a have a payment plan for AB540 students (CCSF does). Scholarship checks should be sent to the school. Important Questions Are students required to pay an orientation fee? Is there an Installment Plan Potential Roadblocks Book Loan Program UCs Not available at UCB Check individual UCs CSUs Available at SF State through Project Connect http://asi.sfsu.edu CCCs CCSF Associated Students & Latino Services Network have small book loan programs. Important Questions Is residency a requirement to participate in Book Loan program? Check individual CSUs Scholarship Disbursement (Including Tax Requirements/ Financial Holds) Student might need to meet with tax specialist prior to release of scholarship. If balance is greater than tuitions and books, taxes might be assessed per IRS. Students set up a glacier account with financial aid so money can distribute. Changing Classes Before Scholarship Payment has Arrived Highly suggested to meet with an EOP counselor. Student might need to meet with tax specialist prior to release of scholarship. Might need to contact the bursar to waive financial hold for 24 hours which allows students to change classes.
