Text Book Ordering We appreciate your patience as we go through this new process of book ordering for the first time. We believe that, with the bugs worked out, this new set-up will provide you the resources you need to purchase books at the best prices you can find while alleviating a huge overstock problem the school used to be encumbered with. For your convenience, we have listed the required textbooks below including ISBN’s. We welcome any comments or suggestions you have about the process. To review: Go to www.thacher.org and be sure to log in using your user name and password. This should bring up a page you are familiar with – where you see campus news, find your child’s grades and comments, etc. The page should say “My Thacher – Parents” at the top. The title, “Course Schedule” will be on the right with a tab containing your child’s name. Click that tab to see the courses listed for the upcoming term. Now click the “ESCO” textbook link and log-in to the ESCO site. If you have not set up an account with ESCO, you will need to do so. With an account established, you should be taken to Thacher’s on-line textbook listing, and the directions from there are fairly straightforward. About Thacher’s Book Listings 1. Not all Thacher courses will appear on ESCO’s site because Thacher intends to sell books for some courses in the usual way – here at Thacher in the fall. For example, no books are listed for arts courses, language courses, senior English courses, the junior level Math III class, or freshman and sophomore history courses. 2. Your child may be at an accelerated level in, say, mathematics. A tenth-grader, for example, in an eleventh grade class, will have to find his/her text under the eleventh grade listings. 3. For mathematics, there are two books required for each of Math I, Math II and Math III, and you should see both listed on the ESCO site. One is an algebra (or pre-calculus) text; the other is a geometry text. Returning students in these courses will already have the geometry text and need not purchase a new copy if they still have theirs from ’08-09. 4. Also in mathematics, check with your child about their algebra, pre-calculus, or calculus text. In some situations, the students are using the same text again this year and need not purchase a new copy if they still have theirs from this past year. 5. In science, if your child is taking Biology, the course name listed in ESCO is actually “Cellular Molecular Biology.” Order the text listed there. 6. Finally, we recommend that, for math and science, you purchase a TI calculator through Thacher in the fall.
