cooperation with the United States and the United
Nations Commission on
Refugees built the center
that became temporary
home to 400,000 refugees
from Vietnam, Laos and
Cambodia between 1980

Thousands of people of
diverse cultures and religion attended the mass for
the “boat people”. “You see
Mrs. Marcos, if we are
believers we are one,” she
quoted the late pope as
telling her after the mass
in February 21, 1981.
Marcos said the late

She believes the newlybeatified pope will become
a saint. “By making this

one of his miracles,” she
said.
The widow of the late

she said while once in a

Chairman Felicito Payumo
of the Bases Conversion

Dinalupihan Mayor Joel

Gene dela Fuente and
some representatives of

attended the inauguration.
Before the inauguration, a long Marian procession was held starting
from the St. Francis of
Asisi Chapel of BTPI to the
shrine. A small Image of
the Virgin Mary and a
wooden cross were the
center images in the procession. The bishop of
Bataan and scores of
priests joined the march.
The wooden cross was
made by a Vietnamese
refugee and presented to
the late pope in the 1981
mass. Like in the former
papal stage built in 1981,
the cross stands adjacent
to the image of the late
pope in the new shrine.
Some meters away
also in the compound of
the shrine are Images of
the Virgin Mary and San

offered flowers at the foot
of the Image of Mary after
the procession.

CSF best practice lauded
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The City Government
of San Fernando reaches
another milestone as it receives three major awards
from the Central Luzon
Growth Corridor Foundation Inc. (CLGCFI) for its
implementation and best
practices in the issuance
of Mayor’s Permit during
the recognition rites held at
Holiday Inn Hotel, Clark
Freeport Zone, last April 27.
One of the awards that
San Fernando bagged is
the 1st place for the excellent implementation of
documented streamlined
procedures on the issuance of Mayor’s Permit for
the year 2010 under the
City Component category.
This award recognizes
cities that provide simple,
effective, transparent and
fast delivery of services to
investors and business
applicants. Such initiative
makes transactions with
the City of San Fernando
more customer-friendly,
thus elevating the level of
competitiveness of Central
Luzon as an investment
destination.
CLGCFI, the group
that provides policy decisions and facilitates the
planning, coordination and
monitoring of investmentrelated projects for the region, also cited this city for
being a model local government unit in the implementation of reforms un-
der the Nationwide
Streamlining of Business
Permits & Licensing Systems in the Philippines.
The city was able to
achieve this award by cutting the processing time
from 2 weeks to only 25
minutes.
Last year, the City of
San Fernando adopted a
unified form, one-time assessment, and one-time
payment in the issuance
of the Mayor’s Permit.
And for the first time,
the Golden Eagle Award of
excellence was given to
the City of San Fernando
for satisfactorily sustaining
its feat as outstanding implementer of streamlined
procedures even after at-
taining the Hall of Fame
award and for its exemplary implementation of
streamlined procedures
on the issuance of Mayor’s Permit in the last six
years.
The recognition was
done in coordination with
the Department of Interior
and Local Government
Unit together with the Department of Trade and Industry, with the aim of acknowledging the efforts of
local chief executives and
their Business Permits
and Licensing Office
(BPLO) staff to eliminate
red tape and reduce the
cost of doing business in
their respective municipalities and cities. –Pampu
In defense of press freedom
STATEMENT OF THE CENTER FOR MEDIA FREEDOM AND RESPONSIBILITY ON THE OCCASION OF WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY, MAY 3, 2011
AS IN THE PAST, WORLD
PRESS FREEDOM DAY 2011
is being commemorated after a
year (May 2010-May 2011) of
global and national turmoil.
Iraq and Afghanistan continued to occupy media attention
and to subject journalists to the
usual perils of covering conflict
areas. Five journalists were
killed in Iraq in 2010, and two in
Afghanistan. And while the unrest in the Middle East and
North Africa was among the
unique characteristics of 20102011, the political crises in
Egypt, Tunisia. Yemen, Bahrain, Syria and Libya did subject
journalists to the same perils of
being killed, threatened, ha-
rassed or abducted while doing
their jobs. Four journalists were
killed in Libya, two in Egypt, and
several others abducted.
The Philippine media situation has resisted change despite the change of administration in July, 2010. The Ampatuan Massacre trial is continuing,
but in terms of results has virtually come to a standstill,
bogged down in the tedious processes involved in resolving
technical issues, even as the
killing of journalists has continued, with nine cases of journalists killed, of which six were
work-related (May 2010 – April
2011).
The same ethical and pro-
fessional shortcomings that
have made the media the subject of citizen skepticism and
even scorn still haunt media
practice, with the performance
of the media, whether print,
broadcast or online, being uniformly problematic. Plagiarism
was a nagging problem, together with sensationalism, lack of
fairness and balance, biased
reporting, and corruption. Problems related to job security, as
well as the usual issues of low
salaries and limited or non-existent benefits were also prominent during the May 2010 to
May 2011 period.
Attempts to legislate a freedom of information act are con-
tinuing even as the 15th Congress pursues efforts to pass a
right of reply law initiated by the
14th Congress despite media
and press opposition.
While the Aquino administration had pledged to respect
press freedom and to stop the
killing of journalists, Mr. Aquino
has not taken the concrete
steps needed to create the conditions necessary to end the
culture of impunity. Neither has
he been reticent in criticizing
the media, at one point accusing them of criminal behavior,
later of sensationalism, focusing on his love life, and ignoring the achievements of his administration, while at the same
time urging advertisers to advertise only in “responsible media
organizations”.
In these circumstances, the
tasks of the media advocacy
and journalists’ organizations
remain as urgent as ever: it is
to defend press freedom in difficult circumstances through selfexamination, self -regulation
and reform. The process has
been difficult and as glacial in
pace as everything else has
been in the Philippine setting,
but it is essential that the effort
at self criticism and self regulation for the sake of better
media and the defense of press
freedom are pursued with renewed vigor and commitment.
CSF commemorates
Jose Abad Santos
death anniversary
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, 02
MAY 2011 – The city government led by Mayor Oscar S.
Rodriguez commemorated the
69th Death Anniversary of one
of its local heroes and the first
Fernandino chief justice, Jose
Abad Santos y Basco during
the flag raising rites held at the
Heroes Park.
Rodriguez, together with the
members of Sangguniang Panlungsod headed by Vice Mayor Edwin Santiago, barangay
officials, city employees and
the descendants of the hero,
laid a wreath at the monument
erected at the Heroes Park.
Jose Abad Santos, a native
of San Fernando, was born on
February 19, 1886 and was
killed by the Japanese military
government on May 2 1942. He
was a martyr and a patriot who
refused to pledge allegiance to
the Japanese government during their invasion of the Philippines in the early 40’s.
He was tasked by then Commonwealth President Manuel L.
Quezon, who sought asylum in
Australia during the Japanese
invasion to lead the country in
his absence.
Abad Santos then went to
Mindanao even as he declined
to collaborate with the Japanese and thus was considered
a fugitive. When he refused,
he was sentenced to death by
firing squad.
During his speech, Rodriguez said that his advocacy to
honor the life and works of heroes like Abad Santos and such
activity is a simple act to recognize the contributions of our
heroes to the democracy that
we enjoy today.
“Ang siyudad ay nakikiisa
sa pagbibigay ng parangal sa
ating mga bayani. Ipinatayo
natin ang Heroes Park upang
ipakita ang pagtanaw ng ating
utang na loob sa mga bayani,”
he said.
Joey Abad Santos III, descendant of the Fernandino
hero, also expressed his gratitude to the city government for
its efforts in giving recognition
to his great grandfather.
“It is an honor for us to become his descendants but it’s
a greater honor for us to receive
this kind of recognition from the
city,” he said.
Also, a highlight of the program was the poetry reading
about Abad Santos rendered by
some members of the Aguman
Tagasulat Kapampangan (AGTAKA). –Pampu

NO BACKING out.
That is 4th District Board Member Ricardo Yabut of
his aspiration to sit in the House of Representatives come
2013.
This, a payback to his townmate, Mayor Jerry Pelayo
telling Yabut – before a gathering of Candaba’s barangay
leaders at a recent disaster preparedness forum – to
cease and desist from his congressional ambition as
he – Pelayo – had already the advantage to put a definitiv
end to the Bondoc dynasty in the district.
Now riposted Yabut: “I am very positive about my bid.
Wala nang atrasan ito. Siguro, kung meron pa akong

than me) then I will reconsider. But as now of, I am setting

Mayday
Living is worth
dying for
YET ANOTHER Mayday passed. Yet another day celebrated in
paeans to the working man. Yet another day of unfulfilled dreams
for labor, of broken promises from capital.
Marx’s Das Kapital rings as true today – the death of
Communism be damned – as it did in 1867: “Capital is dead labor,
that, vampire-like, only lives by sucking blood from living labor.”
Closer to the Filipino proletariat’s heart is the poignancy of the
lines of poet-patriot Ka Amado V. Hernandez in his epic Bayang
Malaya:
“Bisig ng nagsaka’y siyang walang palay,
Nagtayo ng templo’y siyang walang bahay,
Dumungkal ng mina
Ng bakal at ginto ay baon sa utang;
Zona Libre
Bong Z. Lacson
The plebeian’s nothingness of being finds
similar manifestation in another poet of another
time and clime, closer to the very spring of its
origin – the Industrial Revolution. Thus, Percy
Bysshe Shelley’s Song to the Men of England:
“Men of England, wherefore plough
For the lords who lay ye low?
Wherefore weave with toil and care
The rich robes your tyrants wear?
The seed ye sow, another reaps;
The wealth ye find, another keeps;
The robes ye weave, another wears;
The arms ye forge, another bears.
Sow seed, — but let no tyrant reap;
Find wealth, — let no impostor heap;
Weave robes, — let not the idle wear;
Forge guns, — in your defence to bear.”
Further back into history, St. Ambrose, the 4th
century Bishop of Milan, took the Parable of the
Dives with this censorious swing at the rich: “The
earth was established to be in common for all,
rich and poor; why do ye rich alone arrogate it to
yourselves as your rightful property?”
“You crave possession not so much for their
utility to yourself, as because you want to exclude
others from them. You are more concern with
despoiling the poor than with your own advantage.
You think yourself injured if a poor man possesses
anything which you consider a suitable belonging
Regarding
Henry
for a rich man; whatever belongs to others you
look upon as something of which you are
deprived.”
Deprivation is the eternal state of the worker.
That is fated in capitalist societies, engrossed as
they are in “…production not merely the production
of commodities…(but) essentially the production
of surplus value.”
Marx furthered: “All surplus value, whatever
particular (profits, interests, rent) it may crystallize
into, is in substance the materialization of unpaid
labor.”
So at it was shall ever be: On May 1, the cry
for emancipation rang anew. All media are filled
with hallelujahs to the workingman from just about
every political lip freed for that day, and only that
day, from the lock of the capitalist kiss.
On May 2, it’s back to the salt mines for labor
anew. Until the next Mayday.
Sometime, the vicious cycle comes to
breaking. Labor can only take so much. Then it
is the tale of the askal retold:
Henrylito D. Tacio
Then, he becomes his own person. He goes
to school, looks for job, and gets married. Before
he knows it, he has his own child. Just like his
parents before, he has to guide his own kid. Such
is the circle of life.
“Life becomes an exciting adventure when we
expect at least one pleasant surprise each day;
when we show our gratitude freely and unashamedly; when we strive to do at least one anonymous act of kindness to someone who needs it
most; when we seek to discover the beauty and
goodness in every person we meet,” William A.
Ward says.
A priest, speaking to college students, asked
the leader of group: “What are you living for?”
The student leader answered, “I am going to
be an engineer.” The priest said, “I understand
that is how you are going to earn your livelihood,
but what are you living for?”
After thinking about the question for a moment,
the student leader replied with both honesty and
bewilderment: “Father, I am sorry, but I haven’t
thought that through.”
The priest then asked the rest of the group
with the same question. Only two out of the 30
students had seriously faced the central issue of
existence: the reason for living.
“Sa bawa’t latay, kahit aso’y nag-iiba.
Sa una, siya’y magtataka.
Sa ikalawa, siya’y magtatanda.
Sa ikatlo, siya’y mag-iisip.
Sa ikaapat, humanda ka!

“LIFE IS a hard fight, a struggle, a wrestling with the principle of
evil, hand to hand, foot to foot. Every inch of the way is disputed.
The night is given us to take breath, to pray, to drink deep at the
fountain of power. The day, to use the strength which has given us,
to go forth to work with it till the evening.”
That statement comes from the mouth of Florence Nightingale,
the woman who was credited for starting the nurse profession. She
had lived a life worth emulating. She cared for people in order for
them to go on living.
“We may not prefer a world in which sorrow always seems to
be so close to joy; in which heartbreak always seems so close to
happiness; in which doubt always seems to be so close to faith.
But this is the kind of world we’re in,” Jerold Savory notes.
A man is born into this world with nothing – “birthday suit” as
they call it. Parents take care of the child, feed him, and guide him
each day. They also teach him how to interact with other people
and ask for help from the Almighty.

Of course, each of us a reason for living: loved
ones, family, work, ambition, fame, money, etc.
Each strives to get what they want in life. Others
may succeed in getting the prize, but there are
those who also fail.
While there are those who want to continue
living, there are also those who don’t want to live
anymore. They think life is not worth living for
anymore. A man consulted American author Norman Vincent Peale and complained that he was
just fed up with everything. “You sound like you’re
sick of living,” Peale said.
“Yes,” the man replied promptly. “I’d just as
soon like down and die.”
That remark suggested the use of a little experiment. “I’ll tell you what to do,” Peale said.
“Tomorrow morning when you get up, imagine and
pretend that it is the last day you are going to
live. As you lie there, trying to decide to get out of
bed, tell yourself that it is the last time you are
ever going to lie in that soft bed and that this is
the last sleep you are ever going to wake from.”
Peale also told the man to think that everything he will do that day would be his last – from
home to work to meeting people. In addition, Peale
also suggested to “take a last glimpse of all the

Corrupt nila o corrupt ninyo, pare-pareho ba lahat kayo?
IT IS DANGEROUS, if not fatal, to
believe that winning an election or
even especially - losing one - also
bestows a monopoly on virtue and
good intentions.
I used to be more widely known
as the bayaw of Ninoy. Then as
the husband of Tingting. Then as
the brother of President Cory. Then
as the Dad of Mikee. And now
course, as the uncle of President
Aquino.
I also know that my name is
one of those inevitably mentioned
whenever critics of our family bring
up their well-worn smear word as
their all-purpose demolition device
- Kamaganak, Inc.
The notion of a Kamaganak Inc.
is as revolting and repulsive to me
as it is to everyone, and even more
so to all of our family members who
have had to bear this unfair and
unfounded burden that has come
with the territory of having a President in the family. And now, two
Presidents.
The fact is that we Filipinos
overwhelmingly elected Cory’s
only son because we want her
courage and honesty to continue
guiding our leaders in governing
the country, regardless of the qualifications, experience, or abilities
of her senator child. Voting him in
was a resounding rejection of the
corruption of Gloria and her allies,
and a very clear declaration that
we have had enough of the dishonesty, deception, and duplicity
through Gloria’s remaining appointees or her anointed successors.
The Filipinos also decisively
proclaimed their distate for naked
partisan politics, emphatically rejecting unacceptable candidates of
the Liberal Party, including Mar
Roxas for Vice President - something that the Liberals prematurely crowed over as a “done deal”
when for a brief period, he enjoyed
better projected poll numbers than
Noynoy Aquino.
So again, I have been singled
out as the convenient scapegoat
for the embarrassing losses of the
Liberal Party. If their candidate for
Vice President cannot hang on to
the coattails of the overwhelming
landslide victory of his running
mate, why of course, this can
only be the work of none other but
that wily and crafty Peping. Undoubtedly, he orchestrated and
deployed all his political resources and allies to ensure his nephew’s win, and the spectacular and
stunning triumph of the well-known
Cory loyalist, Jojo Binay, over the
hapless, shocked, and overmatched Mister Palengke and Mister Tricycle.
When the expected crush for
political appointments materialized
immediately after the election, I did
not sponsor anyone for any highranking position in the new administration. But instead of being
hailed for not meddling in the fren-

zy of new appointments, I was
characterized as being “outside the
loop”, toxic, and persona non grata. Ironically, it has been the losing Liberal Party candidates who
have feverishly inserted themselves
at the feasting trough, cleverly guilting the winning President into balatos and consuelo de bobos, unmindful and spiteful of their wholesale rejection by the electorate.
Not wishing to distract from the
new President’s efforts and programs, I have tried to avoid any
public back and forth about the
continuous and well manipulated
defamation designed to keep me
distant from and unwholesome for
his image. I have accepted this as
the expected strategy of those
wanting to preserve and entrench
their influence within the new administration.
But my silence has only emboldened the desperate and the
greedy, as the end of the one year
ban on the appointment of losing
candidates approaches.
Recently, columns, articles,
and programs have renewed the
concoctions and fabrications at
my expense. One has me leading a “United Opposition as the
advisor and convenor of political
forces disgruntled by PNoy’s performance”. Another claims outright
that I have refurbished my
LABAN movement for no foresee-
able purpose than to fight the current administration.
The innuendoes have become
shrill enough to openly announce
that I resent being ignored by the
core groups of President Aquino.
That I am being coldly treated by
the Presidential sisters. That the
President and his sisters distance
themselves from me in political
matters, especially in appointments to the government.
One miserably misleading report even floated the unthinkable
“prospect” of my meeting with Gloria for a proposed coalition as an
actual event that is being passed
around as fact instead of fantasy.
Never mind that one such as I,
supposedly powerful enough to
stage the defeat of a sure winner
in the Vice Presidential poll is, on
the other hand, being derided
as not only completely undesirable but a disgraceful political liability to the election’s biggest winner and his sisters?
That my entire direct family
worked nonstop for the President’s
election is undeniable and on
record. In particular, my daughter
Mikee, along with her husband
Dodot, toiled with my wife Tingting
and all my other children throughout the campaign. Tirelessly. Indefatigably. And as it has turned out,
thanklessly as well.
There is no rift between the
President and myself, in spite of
the accurate statements in the
press that none of our followers
who worked endlessly for his election have been rewarded with
choice government positions. All
of the volunteers in my various reform movements labored freely
without remuneration, and unmotivated by gaining any government
position or reward, unlike so many
in the President’s own Liberal Party who had to be reimbursed extravagantly before they would even
begin to “support” President Aquino.
In fact, the Cojuangco families
are very thankful that the Abads
(we have an Abad as the secretary of the DBM, an Abad as Secretary to the PMS, an Abad as
Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, and
an Abad as chief of staff of the
Secretary of Finance. The Abad
nepotism has so metastasized
through the body of this administration that they have even managed to be included in the plunder
charges recently filed against Gloria and her known galamays these Abads have, faster than one
can scream “magkakamaganak
bang lahat ito?” now quickly
snatched the label of “Kamaganak
Inc. for their own families’s use shamelessly, insensitively, and
defiantly - regardless of the lack
of delicadeza and basic decency.
Apparently, the dictates against
the appearances of nepotism only
apply to my family members, which
sadly have not been fortunate
enough to be named Puno, Ochoa,
Abad, or Roxas. Obviously, we can
also dismiss any smirks over the
stigma of charges about Kabarkadas were we lucky enough to be
named Alvarez.
I, and my children, are so honored and humbled to be able to
say that my wife preferred to step
down from her career post at the
PPSC, rather than cause even the
slightest appearance of public
bickering within the President’s
family (though she was appointed
by GMA not by BCA, and is also
technically not a direct relative),
taking the high road over petty and
distasteful public rows. She has
set a sterling example of honor in
public behavior that does me and
all our children proud, not to mention continuing with the high standards of behavior and principles
inspired by my sister Cory and
Ninoy.
In closing, let me be clear that
I have never been involved in any
way with any opposition force
against my nephew.
But I will always be in fierce and
unyielding opposition to any and
all self-serving partisan efforts and
characters who put their interests
before and above those of our people.

NGAYONG KAHIT saan man yata ng dako

Upang mabawasan kahit papaano
Ay di na lang n’yan isinisiwalat;
At di daang libo lamang kundi milyon
Ang kita ng ilang heneral sa ngayon,
Mula sa anila’y tawag ay “pabaon,”
At sa tinagurian yatang “pasalubong”
Kung saan sa ganang sariling opinyon
Ni ‘yours truly’ yan ay lantarang pag-kotong
Sa pondo ng ating ‘military’ ngayon,
Partikular na sa kawawang sundalong
Marapat tumanggap ng malaking sahod
Pagkat sila itong nakikipag-hamok,

souvenir items or gamit
pang-alala at iba pang
“It’s a big event and a
rare opportunity to see
how the Pope John Paul II
used to welcome us and
how he touched our lives,”
ani Tenorio na siyang nagsisilbing tagapangulo ng
Commission on Formation
pang paring nakaklase
niya sa San Carlos Seminary ang Papa.
“We were celebrating
our 10th year as priests in
1998 ng bigyan kami ng
pagkakataon ni Pope John
Paul II na makasama siya
sa kanyang vacation
house in Castel Gandolfo,
Italy,” ani Tenorio.
Sa panahon ng kanilang pakikipag-usap sa
Papa, inilarawan niya ito
bilang isang masayahin o
“jolly person.”
Bukod sa pagiging
masayahing kausap ng
Papa, sinabi ni Tenorio na
nagdiwang din sila ng
isang misa kasama ang
Papa.
“He also gave importance to conversion which
translates to charity and
his charisma,” ani Tenorio.
“Filipinos will always
remember the simplicity of
Pope John Paul II and his
fatherly image,” ani De
Leon.

naantala.
“When I started as
chair of North Rail in 2008,
we were five years behind,
and we were able to move
on after I renegotiated it,”
aniya.
Sa panahon ng pamumuno ni Pamintuan sa
NorthRail, ipinakita niya na
intresado ang Pilipinas na
makumpleto at mapaandar
ang NorthRail.
Ito ay naghatid din ng
sigla at pag-asa sa mga
negosyante at ibang mamumuhunan dahil nakita
nila itong abandonahin ilang
buwan
bago
manungkulan si Pamintuan bilang tagapangulo ng
NorthRail.
Tsino.
“Para di masira ang
relasyon natin sa China,
ngayon pa lang pag-usapan na natin kung bibitawan o hindi kasi we are
paying the interest of the
loan,” aniya.
naunang kontrata. I think
it is justified dahil five
years after tumaas bilihin,
at yung exchanges sa
currency nag-iba.”
assistance (ODA).
“NorthRail is their biggest project in the Philippines, gusto nilang gawing
benchmark ito for other
projects. They want to
showcase Northrail that
China can do much better
than other countries in
coming up with this
project,” ani Pamintuan.
tirahan noong 2005.
Ang riles ng PNR ay
itinayo ng mga Kastila
noong hloing bahagi ng
1800, at ang unang linya
na pinasiyaan ay mula sa
Tutuban hanggang sa bayan ng Calumpit.
Ito ay pinasinayaan
noong Marso 24, 1891, ilang taon bago sumiklab
ang digmaan sa pagitan
ng mga Pilipino at Kastila.

things you dislike, because soon you will be through

The man promised Peale that he would try the
experiment and later he would tell the author of I’m
OK, You’re OK, We’re OK the results.
The man didn’t even wait for the next day; he started at once imagining that every day was his last. On
the way home, he looked out the window instead of
reading the evening paper and was fascinated by the
lights of the city. He really found that trip a pleasant
one. Then, under a star-lit sky, along moon-bathed
streets, he walked home.
Instead of using his key when he reached his door,
he rang the bell. When the door opened, there in that
golden light was the sweetheart he had married 35
years before.
“I just grabbed her and gave her the biggest kiss
of our lives,” the man told Peale the following day.
“Right then and there, I determined I was going to be
alive tomorrow and the next day and as long as God
would grant me.”
“We dribble away our life, little by little, in small
packages – we don’t throw it away all at once,” Robert A. Cook reminded. “I have found life an enjoyable,
enchanting, active, and sometimes terrifying experience, and I’ve enjoyed it completely. A lament in one
ear, maybe, but always a song in the other,” Sean
O’Casey rhapsodized.
The story is told of a man who set out with a
pilgrim’s staff to find a certain saintly hermit to ask of
him a question. When he found the hermit, he inquired, “If you had just one day to live, how would you
spend that day?”
The old hermit stroked his long white beard and
answered, “Well, first I would say my morning prayer.
Afterward, I might fix a bit of tea and go out and weed
the garden. Then, I might go down the road to visit
my neighbor. Then I might take a nap.”
“Wait,” the pilgrim interrupted, “that’s the way you
spend every day.”
“Of course,” replied the hermit. “Why should the
last day be any different from the rest?”
“Life is currently described in one of four ways: as
a journey, as a battle, as a pilgrimage, and as a race,”
J. Richard Sneed explained. “Select your own metaphor, but the finishing necessity is all the same. For if
life is a journey, it must be completed. If life is a battle,
it must be finished. If life is a pilgrimage, it must be
concluded. And if it is a race, it must be won.”

Finding the One: The Maria
Lourdes Clarise D.Limjoco
and Jeremy Sun Love story
(PHOTOS BY MICHELLE PINEDA-PASTORIL)
YOU KNOW love is right when you find it in the least expected place and time. For
Jeremy Sun and Clarise Limjoco, this proved true. They were not introduced as
most are, their paths crossed in the most usual way, a chance meeting.
Jeremy and his friends frequented a coffee shop own by a couple of friends in near
the Clark Amusement Center. Their almost daily visits would see Jeremy’s life change
in the most fascinating way. He saw of a glimpse of her, Clarise was working in her
pizza store just a few stalls away and Jeremy was instantly smitten by the pretty girl.
So much so that he went running back to his friends and told them about her. So they
all ended up watching her and they all agreed that she was pretty. So they all planned
to formally introduce themselves to her that night, they waited for her to close shop
and actually followed her and one of her friends to Balibago. There they finally got the
chance to meet the lovely lass.
This of course was just the start of the whole story. Like any love affair it has its
ups
down but this couple weathered it all beautifully. Till Jeremy decided to end

boyfriend – girlfriend relationship, he wanted something more permanent with the
pretty Clarise. So he orchestrated a elaborate plan to get her to Fontana, thinking it
was a Christmas party she would be attending. When she arrived Jeremy was ready to sweep her off her feet completely.
He had the entire villa set up with rose petals at the driveway, candlelight everywhere, white balloons, a slide show of
their pictures together and “When God Made You” for background music. Jeremy went on one knee and told Clarise,
“Will you make me the happiest man and marry me?” Of course, given the ambience and the sincerity of the moment,
Clarise said ye and she went home with a diamond engagement ring on her hand that night.
Now the bride was pretty busy herself being the Marketing and Sales Manager of Viewmont Homes and a business
woman too. The groom is the president of Suncare lending Investors Inc. And a Engineer consultant. They also spent
some time looking for the caterer they wanted and they took some time off to find they’re choice. They went as far as
Marikina but both said they didn’t get lost in their search and got to their appointment on time with a help of a map. So
this couple can definitely join The Amazing Race and just might win!
But being both super busy they asked me to handle their wedding. This big day could not have happened without a
great team of experts beside me. We pow wowed with their caterer, JOSIAHS CATERING. The fabulous gown of the
bride was created by JOJO MACAPINLAC while the barong of the groom was done by PRINCE ALBERT.
They were both made incredibly gorgeous that day by the hair and make-up team of COIFFEUR by Rolan “Bok”
Cayanan. Styling the Lewis Grand Hotel Ballroom and the St.Joseph the Worker Chapel was florist/ event stylist
MICHAEL “BADANG” RUEDA. Our amazing photographer, MICHELLE PINEDA-PASTORIL OF SPLIT IMAGE was
also enchanted with the entire night that it brought back memories of her own wedding day. She was so inspired that the
photography was breath taking. The videographer, IAN CRUZ had so much material to used and so many great clips that
his video wowed the crowd and the couple. The invitations the couple sent their guests were crafted by QP DESIGNS.
The souvenirs & stationery were made for the couple by Karen Flores of OOOPS SHOP. The fantabulous cake was
designed by artist JUDY USON. The music during the ceremony was provided by the STRING MINSTRELS while the
FORT REPUBLIC & CHOCOLATE FACTORY let it loose for the reception and after party.
JANUARY 29, 2011 will be fondly remembered by their principal sponsors as it was something spectacular in their
lives. The ninongs and ninangs, Mr. Wilfredo M. Ng, Mr. Primo L. David, Engr. Enrico M. Limjoco, Mr. Edgardo P.
De Guzman, Dr. Florante M. Magalang, Mr. Judy S. Sun, Mrs. Anita T. David, Mrs. Eloisa D. Sarmiento, Mrs.
Arleen M Manuson, Sr. Eloisa L.David, O.S.B., Mrs. Teresita L. Reyes and Ms. Myrna S. Pamintuan enjoyed the
night just as much as the happy parent of both the bride and the groom, ALMA DAVID LIMJOCO & NAPOLEON
MAGLALANG LIMJOCO and WILFREDO SISON SUN & ELEANOR MUSNI SUN
The couple had one thing in mind in our conversations about what they wanted for their wedding they were very
definite in that since its a once in a lifetime event, they wanted to make the most out of it by making it something out of
the ordinary to make it memorable. And I think with the help of all the suppliers, Events and Concepts managed to give
Jeremy and Clarise what they envisioned. Congratulations to the happy couple!
