support your organization on
eBay

their proceeds to the nonprofit of their choice. The donation is a tax write-off and eBay will reimburse their

eBay in support of your organization.

• Find a space you can use that can provide internet
• Promote the event to your local supporters through email and a Facebook event and ask them to
bring:
- Items to sell on eBay
- Their laptop

ARCHITECTING A CHARITY AUCTION
Auction events can be broken down into the
five basic steps listed here:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Plan your auction
Solicit items to sell
List your item for sale
Spread a word
Wrap it, ship it, and assess how you did
Think about who you know. Of course “items"
sell well on eBay—but so do unique
experiences: shop with a supermodel; tour
the town with the mayor; lunch with a CEO.
Big names tend to generate more interest
and bigger donations, so consider high
wattage partners and friends of your
organization—they may have a one-of-a-kind
experience to offer.
Reach out to your celebrity supporters and
leverage them.
35
SOCIAL MEDIA
Don’t forget to use your website or blog to educate your supporters, so they can support by purchasing
items listed on your behalf (link them to your nonprofit detail page) and selling on your behalf (instruct them
to select your organization as the beneficiary when prompted in eBay’s ‘Sell Your Item’ process).
Let your Facebook community and Twitter followers know that they can support you on eBay by buying
your listings or selling on your behalf.
