The new year is a fresh palette laid out
for the Arts Center and we’re excited
about taking advantage of the wonderful
organizational opportunities members
have dreamed about for decades!
Thanks to all the hard work and planning
undertaken by the volunteers on our
many committees we have a host of
exciting activities scheduled for the new
year, including the Arts Center’s first
“juried” art show and a “small works”
show that will help raise funds for
planned improvements to our lakeside
facility, Sunny Point. We’ll present
workshops by regionally and nationally
recognized artists as well as offering an
eclectic range of creative classes including the culinary arts, fiber arts, ceramics,
jewelry, sculpture, photography, more.
We’ve put the finishing touches on our
Main Street Arts Center and are looking
now at making Sunny Point the community asset we believe it can be. The first
phase of improvements to the property
will create a seasonal ceramics studio
in the old boathouse and expand our
classroom space in the “red (studio)
barn.” We’re excited about welcoming
new applicants for our artist in residency program and looking forward to organizing some lakeside “give art a try”
events to give everyone the opportunity
to enjoy this special facility.
The new year is full of possibilities. We
hope you’ll work with us as well to turn
old dreams into reality and create new
dreams for the future.

Next New Show Opening Sun. Feb. 8, 3-5 PM: “Cabin Fever”
From the New ACYC President –
It’s always nice to start a new year by reflecting on the old and then preparing for the new.
At the Arts Center we certainly have much to be grateful for when we reflect on 2014. A great
team of volunteers kept us up and running in just our second full year on Main Street – promoting
(and selling!) the work of a growing number of talented local and regional artists. We offered
more creative workshops in more artistic mediums than ever before and, thanks to some wonderful partnerships, reached out to the community at large in new and meaningful ways. And to
top it all off, we were able to install an elevator that ensures accessibility for everyone to all that
our building has to offer.
I’m excited to start 2015 as the new board president of this vibrant organization. Our dedicated
board of directors has put together a three year strategic plan for the Arts Center that will keep
us moving forward – establishing new partnerships, broadening our reach within the community
and promoting the incredible work being done by our artists to a much larger audience through
enhanced electronic communications. We’ll also be focusing on
our lakefront facility – Sunny Point – in the coming year. There’s
terrific potential for that property and we’re looking forward to seeing the inspiration that comes from doing art in such a wonderful
setting.
We’re also looking forward to seeing you as we continue to progress into a new year filled with so many possibilities. We welcome your ideas, your support and your participation. This is, after
all, YOUR community Arts Center.

CABIN FEVER
Fight off winter chills and cabin fever at the Arts Center’s first exhibit of 2015! Featuring the work of three
of the Arts Center’s artists in residence over the past
three years, the exhibit runs from Sunday, February
8th to Monday, March 16th.
For those who aren’t aware, for the last four years
the Arts Center has offered the opportunity for artists
from around the country to spend ten days “in residence” at our lakeside facility, Sunny Point. The applicants apply for a July or September session and
the residencies are awarded on a competitive basis.
Cabin Fever features the work of three painters who
found their time at the Sunny Point cottage to be extremely inspirational:

Why receive your copy of Perspectives on-line?
Electronic Version of Perspectives Saves
The Arts Center’s new on-line version of Perspectives is an evolving and dynamic new initiative. This is
the second issue of our beloved newsletter to be delivered on-line and we’re just beginning to explore
the ways that the electronic version can serve our members and our organization—allowing readers to
“click through” to learn more about the stories in the newsletter, artists and business members; providing opportunities for the inclusion of more interactive elements like Daniel Crozet’s Arts Center update
slide shows; coming to you in full color on every page and saving the Arts Center money that can be
used for programming, services, workshops, and to enhance our facilities.
We recognize that many people like to have a “hard copy” in hand, but when you consider the savings
and how can be used to benefit our community through the arts, we hope you will opt for an electronic
version.
How it breaks down --- Perspectives is produced and distributed six times a year. With the print version, generally mailed only to members, ARC has been printing, folding and bulk mailing about 550
newsletters every two months. Each edition costs about $500,
not including the “in house printing” of the color page that’s usually inserted. If all our members opted for the electronic version,
the Arts Center would save $3,000 per year!
Printing costs for a smaller number of newsletters don’t seem
that burdensome, but, not surprisingly, mailing hard copy newsletters to a relatively small number of members more than triples the amount we’re paying in postage! So each hard copy
issue costs the Arts Center $1.25 to print and mail—or about
$7.50 per person. That certainly doesn’t seem like much—until
you start multiplying by how many people want hard copy. For
every 100 members who switch to receiving the newsletter on-line, we save $750 a year!
We hope you’ll help us not only save money but take advantage of the easy opportunity to spread the
word by forwarding the electronic version of Perspectives on to your friends. Click through and see
what’s new!
This just in….
Why whine about winter? Why not wine away the winter hours exploring the art of distilling
“summer in a glass” in the Arts Center’s new workshop series “The Art of Wine?” Join leading area
winemakers and experts as they demystify the art of creating Finger Lakes wines. Workshops will
be held on the first and third Thursday of February, March and April from 6:30—8 pm in the Arts
Center’s Flick Gallery. Cost per session is $12 for members, $15 for not-yet-members and you
must be 21 to participate in these workshops.
Learn how proper food “pairings” can bring out the best of both wine and food with Ravines Wine
Cellars’ Lisa Hallgren on February 5th. Fox Run’s winemaker Peter Bell will share the art of combining grapes to create the perfect blends on February 19th.

In appreciation of Daniel Crozet’s leadership...
At the Board holiday gathering, members Kent Salisbury and

sang it again with gusto. The board's spirit and cohesiveness
shone forth. (No recording contract was offered.)

“Palm of the Hand” Writers
Mon. Jan. 5 & Feb. 9,
Winter Hours: 4-5:30 PM
The first Monday of every month, 4-5:30 PM, “Palm-ofthe-Hand” memoir writers meet, in the Board Room of the Arts
Center. There’s an optional third Monday, 4-5:30, if interested:
call the gallery. The concept of “Palm of the Hand” is to write
about a single anecdote of your life expressed in no more than
one page. If you’ve wanted to put down memoirs of your life,
but didn’t know how to begin, this is a great format to start. We
each read and offer feedback if requested. (And we each kick
in $1 to the Arts Center.)

Volunteer Spotlight
Sue Tierney volunteers most Tuesday afternoons
at the Arts Center--except when she is on one of her
many traveling adventures. She enjoys the flexibility of a schedule that allows her time for travel.
Sue attended an opening in the spring of 2013
and became interested in working at the Gallery. With the pleasant atmosphere of the physical
building, the ever-changing exhibitions, a personal
and professional director, and friendly people, she
feels that being a docent is her most pleasurable
volunteer position ever.
Mrs. Tierney is one of nine siblings with living parents in remarkably good health at almost
98 and 94. These parents traveled for 30 years in their retirement, giving their children an example of high life satisfaction. Sue attended Keuka College as a psychology major and later
earned a Masters Degree in education. She taught mathematics at DeSales High School for
five years, at Penn Yan Academy for one year, and at Penn Yan Middle School for 25
B&B Tour Coming Again: Saturday, April 25

Well, hold that thought for our 2015 Bed and Breakfast tour. In this upcoming event we will "span the lakes" with
inns to tour overlooking Seneca as well as Keuka and even one nestled in a charming country valley.
Mark your calendars for Saturday April 25. This is one week earlier than
traditionally held to provide you entrée to some very special locations.
Tickets will go on sale at the Arts Center in February. Tickets are $28 per
person if ordered in advance. $32 on the day of the tour. The bargain is
a $25 group rate for 3 or more friends, so fill your car.
