ACTIVITY ONE: ART VOCABULARY
ANSWER KEY
Animal Scene—a work of art that shows an animal or animals as the main
subject of the painting.
Portrait—A work of art created to show a person or group of people, usually
focusing on the face.
Landscape—A drawing or painting that shows outdoor scenery such as trees,
lakes, mountains and fields.
Life Scene — A work of art showing action or an activity by people.
Still-Life—A work of art showing an arrangement of objects that cannot move
on their own, such as fruit or flowers.
Abstract - A style of art that does not look realistic. Usually has bright colors,
lines and shapes.
Work of Art—A creative product of the imagination.
Artist—A person who creates a work of art.
Elements of Art—The basic properties of a work of art. They are texture, form,
shape, line and value.

ACTIVITY TWO: EXPLORING ART WORKSHEET
INSTRUCTIONS AND ANSWERS
1. Distribute Exploring Art Worksheets.
2. Ask students to compare and categories the works of art on the page (can be
done as individuals, as a group, or as a class).
3. Ask the following questions: How are the pieces of art different from each
other? Observe things such as landscapes and people, what they are wearing,
expression on their faces. What do you think the artist used to create each of
the pieces? What shapes do you see in the art? Can you tell what the artist
was feeling when he/she created the artwork? What do you feel when you
see it?
4. Discuss how they will see a variety of art in the Student Art Tent and ask them
to think about these same questions when they visit the Student Art Tent.

ACTIVITY THREE: DATA COLLECTION WORKSHEET
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Distribute Data Collection Worksheets to students.
2. You may choose to assign one worksheet to a pair of students so they can
work together or you may choose one category per student or group of
students.
3. AsK students to walk through the designated area in the Student Art Tent
and count how many pieces of art they observe for their assigned
characteristic.
4. Collect worksheets for use in the classroom to graph results.
