Boots Motel was purchased in 2011 and will undergo renovations over the next several years, to restore it to its
former glory and offer it as an overnight attraction.

became part of the national highway we now call Route
66. Along the stretch found in Carthage you will find
Kellogg Lake, Red Oak II, White Rose Winery, antique
shopping, the Historic Carthage Square, Carthage Civil
War Museum, Jasper County Courthouse, Jasper County
Records Center, the Boots Motel, Memorial Hall, Powers

Fun Stuff
Carthage, Missouri, is a unique crossroad of
architecture, history, art and inspiration. Established in
1842 then burned to the ground during the Civil War,
the town was reconstructed during the Victorian era.

Jasper County Courthouse

Built in 1884-95, this Romanesque Revival building is
constructed of Carthage stone and listed on the National
Register of Historic Places. Inside, a wrought-iron cage
elevator is still hand operated and mining specimens are
displayed along with Lowell Davis’ “Forged in Fire’ mural
portraying the history of Jasper County. The Jasper County Route 66 museum is housed inside the
courthouse.

This non-profit organization offers gallery, exhibitions, and

revolving local history exhibits. The museum features a
gift shop, reference library, Jefferson Highway and Route

Civil War Museum

The museum presents artifacts and information about the
Battle of Carthage and the Civil War in Southwest
Missouri. The focal point is a mural painted by Andy
Thomas that features battle action on the courthouse

Precious Moments Chapel

Precious Moments artist and creator Sam Butcher
opened the Precious Moments Chapel in 1989 as a
thanksgiving to God for all the blessings in his life. The
Chapel features 9, 000 square feet with 84 hand-painted
murals and 30 stained glass windows done in Precious
Moments art based stories from the Bible.
