Instructions for Mixing Warm/Cool Palette for Flesh: 1. NOTE: BE SURE AND MIX A GOOD AMOUNT OF PAINT IN THE RED AND BLUE STRINGS AS THEY WILL BE CUT FOR THE OTHER THREE STRINGS! MIX ABOUT THREE TABLESPOONS OF EACH VALUE TO ENSURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH FOR THE MIDDLE-TEMPERATURE STRINGS. NOTE: YOU CANNOT USE THE HANDOUT AS A GUIDE TO MATCHING THE COLOR AS IT IS A COMPUTER PRINTOUT. USE YOUR JUDGEMENT AND TAKE YOUR TIME. THIS IS A GOOD EXERCISE FOR LEARNING TEMPERATURE! TEMPERATURE CREATES FORM AND SPACE….. 2. mix Red String. Start with straight Transparent Red Oxide as #1 value at left bottom corner of palette. Above that mix in a little white as #2 Value. Above that mix more white as #3 value. More white again for value #4. Add more white for the remaining values until you get to straight white at value #9. use value stick to match values. 3. Mix Blue string. Start at value #1 with straight Blue black at the bottom right corner of your palette. Value #2 is right above #1 by adding a little white to blue black. Continue adding more white until you get up to straight white at value #9. 4. Mix neutral string by mixing across the red and blue strings by value and place it at the center between the two strings. Mix value #1 red with #1 blue, mix #2 red with #2 blue and so on. Note that the Red is MUCH STRONGER A PIGMENT than the blue and you will need less red than blue to create A NUETRAL color. The neutral string must be totally neutral. Check yourself by asking if the color you mixed is more red or more blue. If you can answer that then you must add the opposite color to neutralize. This is an exercise in itself to understanding temperature and a valuable lesson. Take your time and enjoy the process. 5. Mix the two remaining strings the same way, keeping them exactly in the middle of the two temperatures next to it.
