As you know, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF) has notified the Peel District
School Board that their members-secondary teachers and secondary occasional teachers-will be on
strike effective May 4, 2015, As such, all Peel secondary schools (grades 9 to 12) will be closed to students
as of May 4, 2015.
The purpose of this letter is to update you on the status of International Baccalaureate (IB) exams during a
strike. If a strike occurs, the Peel board will ensure students have the opportunity to write their IB exams
and has developed the following contingency plan:
•
Since teachers may be picketing outside Peel secondary schools during a strike, alilB exams will be
written in Exhibit Halls 4 or 5 at The International Centre, located at 6900 Airport Rd. in Mississauga
(map on reverse). Transportation will not be provided to and from The International Centre.
AIIIB exams will be written between May 4 and May 21,2015. All morning exams will begin at 8:30 a.m.
•
Afternoon exams begin at 12:30 p.m. Please see the attached document for more information related
to the exam schedule.
•
Please arrive at least 30-45 minutes before your exam start time so that you have enough time to find
the exam room and check in. According to IB rules, students who arrive late will not be permitted to
write their exam.
• All students must bring photo 10.
•
Students will be supervised during break periods. Students who are writing morning and afternoon
exams are encouraged to bring a lunch as they are to remain on site for the duration of the day.
• Students will write their exams in groups ranging from 75 to 350 students. In accordance with IB
exam-writing protocol, students will be supervised by secondary vice-principals and principals while
they write their exams.
Final exam marks will be communicated to students through the school as they have in the past. Marks will
be mailed to students' home addresses during the summer.
If a strike is averted, students will write their exams at Turner Fenton S.S . If you have any questions about
this accommodation plan for students writing their IB exams this May, please contact me directly. Thank
you for your support and understanding.
