Well…Do you want to be in on jokes; understand the lyrics in the music you listen to; enjoy books and movies more than ever....and maybe even predict the future? This class can help you do all of these things. Here is my take on it… ——————————————————————————————————————— Dear Students, As I begin my 14th year teaching, I have come to believe a couple things about this subject and this class. First, history really is everything- War, peace, music, literature, entertainment, fashion, society, technology, religion, politics…IT’S EVERYTHING! As we develop an understanding of the forces at work and the events of our history, I believe we are better able to enjoy and relate to the world around us on many levels. Second, studying history the way historians do builds vital skills for today’s world. We are bombarded by information and an ability to analyze that information critically and form our own judgements is more important than ever. I hope that by the time we are through, you will have an understanding and an appreciation for our history and that you will be skillful critical thinkers. I believe that studying our history can truly enrich our lives. Sincerely, Mr. McLennan SRHS US History I GRADING 2015-2016 Units of Study We will use a point system where assignments / tasks / projects and assessments are given an appropriate point value.
