MFM2P1 – Foundations of Mathematics 10 Grade 10 Applied Mathematics - Final Exam Preparation 2015 Riverdale Collegiate Institute Exam Date _________________________________________ Notes: 1. The final exam is worth 30% of the final course as mandated by the Ministry of Education. 2. The final exam is one and a half hours (1.5 hours) in duration and will cover topics from the entire year as outlined in the course outline for MFM2P1. 3. Students will have the use of an aid sheet during the final exam. 4. Students are responsible for bringing a scientific calculator, pen, pencil, ruler, and eraser to the final examination. Examination preparation suggestions: 1. Your notes Make sure that through your notebook is organized and that you have complete all of the assigned homework questions. Highlight any key terms/ideas or formulas in your notebook to record on your aid sheet to help you during the examination. 2. Your Tests, Quizzes and Assignments Organize your quizzes, tests, and assignments by unit and topic. Go through your quizzes, tests, and assignments. Pick out the questions that you didn’t get correct and redo the questions to get the correct answers. If you are having difficulty with any of the questions, please make an appointment with your teacher for extra help. 3. Practice! Practice! Practice! Complete the following questions from the McGraw-Hill Ryerson textbook, Foundations of Mathematics 10. p. 94 to p. 95, Chapters 1 to 2 Review: o Chapter 1 – Measurement Systems and Similar Triangles: Q1, Q2, Q5, Q7 o Chapter 2 – Right Triangle Trigonometry: Q8, Q9, Q10, Q11, Q12, Q13 p. 232 to p. 233, Chapters 3 to 5 Review: o Chapter 3 – Linear Relations: Q1 to Q6 o Chapter 4 – Linear Equations: Q7 to Q12 o Chapter 5 – Linear Systems: Q13 to Q17 p. 358 to p. 359, Chapters 6 to 8 Review: o Chapter 6 – Quadratic Relations: Q1, Q3 o Chapter 7 – Quadratic Expressions: Q4 to Q9 o Chapter 8 – Represent Quadratic Relations : Q10, Q12 4. Useful websites : There are many excellent websites that you can use to practice the concepts learned this year: o Homework Help - https://homeworkhelp.ilc.org/ (You will need your OEN (Ontario Education Number) from your report card.) o Khan Academy - https://www.khanacademy.org/ o Purple Math - http://www.purplemath.com/ o Gizmos - http://www.explorelearning.com/ NOTE: Additional practice questions and a practice examination will be provided in class prior to the final examination in MFM2P1. 1 MFM2P1 – Foundations of Mathematics 10 Grade 10 Applied Mathematics - Final Exam Preparation 2015 Riverdale Collegiate Institute MFM2P1 CHECKLIST FOR EXAM 2015 As you study for your exam, which is on _______________________________, check off the topics you know: A. LINEAR RELATIONS Solve linear equations Make a table of values for any relation Graph relations from the information in your table of values Determine the equation of a linear function from a table of values or graph in the form y = mx + b Identify the slope (first differences) and y-intercept (the y-value that occurs when x is 0) Determine the point of intersection of two linear relations by substitution or graphing (that is, solve a system of equations) B. TRIGONOMETRY Make ratios of sides of similar triangles SOHCAHTOA! Solve for unknown sides or angles using SOHCAHTOA, occasionally in the context of word problems (think angle of elevation/depression) Pythagorean Theorem C. QUADRATIC FUNCTIONS Expanding/simplifying and factoring polynomials y-intercept – identify on a graph and determine algebraically (it occurs when x = 0) x-intercepts - identify on a graph and determine algebraically (they occur when y = 0) factoring to solve for x-intercepts vertex – identify on a graph and determine algebraically axis of symmetry – identify on a graph and determine its equation Mary Card Curricululm Leader: Mathematics/Numeracy 2
