Located in downtown Toronto, Canada, Ryerson University is known for its career-driven undergraduate and graduate studies; innovative niche programs; scholarship, research and creative activity with a direct impact on current issues; far-ranging partnerships; and a demonstrated role as a city-builder and innovator. Ryerson offers more than 100 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral-level programs, distinguished by a strong commitment to teaching excellence, and research and creative activities. Externally funded research has doubled in the past five years to a current total of nearly $30 million. Ryerson has 38,900 students and is home to Canada’s largest university-based school of continuing education, with over 70,000 enrolments in adult education at the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education. The University is proactively dedicated to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion in all of its activities. Noted for its applied education and research focus, the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science has 4,000 undergraduate students enrolled in nine undergraduate programs, nearly 950 graduate students in nine master’s and six doctoral programs, over 150 faculty members seven of whom hold Canada Research Chair positions - and 80 administrative and technical staff. All of the engineering programs are accredited with the highest possible rating by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board. The architecture program has also been granted full accreditation by the Canadian Architectural Certification Board. The Faculty houses one of only a few undergraduate aerospace engineering programs in the country, and the first and only accredited stand-alone undergraduate biomedical engineering program in English-speaking Canada. The George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre is a state-of-the-art science, technology and research facility spanning almost an entire city block in downtown Toronto. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President Academic as part of Ryerson’s senior administrative team, the Dean will be an inspiring academic leader (Ph.D. required) with a strong commitment to serving the needs of students and promoting teaching, research, and the overall reputation of the Faculty. He/she will possess an open and collegial style, outstanding management, communication and interpersonal skills, a creative and entrepreneurial approach to problem- solving, and the ability to inspire a dedicated faculty and staff. The Dean will preferably have a record as an outstanding academic administrator, with experience in advancement, building collaborative teams, fostering a research environment, and relating to a range of internal and external partners. The Dean will facilitate and enhance the endeavours of all areas of the Faculty. The Dean must be a licensed Professional Engineer or meet the licensing requirements of Professional Engineers Ontario.
