These standards, adopted as the WV Next Generation standards in 2011, were developed using input from over 600 teachers and administrators, with public comment from residents, as a way to assure grade-level achievement was consistent with college and career readiness. WHO: Speakers will include Dr. Michael Martirano, Superintendent of Schools; Gayle Manchin, President of the Board of Education; Clayton Burch, Chief Academic Officer of the WV Dept. of Ed.; Teresa Hammond, Assistant Director of the Office of Early Learning and Sue Day-Perroots, Associate V.P. of Academic Innovation at WVU. Other representatives from the Board of Education, West Virginia University and the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, who are working together to initiate the opportunity for this evaluation, will also be on hand.
