fastening hood latches and handles. Complete kit does one

This kit can add a lot of pizzazz to your ride. If you are
in the process of a re-paint you have already figured
out that sanding a hood with the handles and latch
clips in place is as much fun as washing the cat. If you
do sand all around the edges and do the rivets, your
fingertips are going to be bloody. Then, after the hood
is painted, you will find that a lot of detail has been lost
due to primer and paint buildup.
So...grind the rivets out and remove all that stuff.
Sanding and painting is a lot easier now. Then re-install
the handles and latches using our rivet head screws
and lock nuts. The screws are stainless but you can
paint them body color first and then install them
(Another hint! If you order new handles and latches, the
screws and lock nuts come with them plus new rubber
bumpers for the latch clips – just sayin’.)
Then stand back to admire your work and you’ll say
“Boy, I’m glad I did it that way.”

A totally new design with a single release handle on each side. The new streamlined shape with slanted, curved louvers looked
great, but the latching mechanism worked awkwardly by bending the latch bars beneath, a poor design which was eliminated
for the next year.

The Flash Gordon era begins as ’37 was the first year of the modern,
conventional hood being latched at the nose and hinged at the
cowl. The sleek hood sides now had 8 horizontal vents surrounded
by stainless trim and could be easily detached, but all basic engine
maintenance could be done from above.

Why Metal Inside?
Like the originals, we put metal inserts in our hood bumpers to prevent the rivets from pulling through the rubber as well as
keeping the rubber from peeling back. Maintains the shape for years of good looks and great service. These images illustrate the

What’s Under Your Hood?
Sometimes these hood latch plates are missing or badly damaged and we are often asked about them at swap
meets and car shows. We hope the following is helpful.
The early ’39 is the easiest to spot as it has the rod system that rotates. The matching upper grille brace has a
large tower on each end that these rods wrap around. The early ’39 also uses a different safety catch release. The
late ’39, like the ’40s, uses a large cast hook in the middle of the hood brace that rotates into it’s matching upper
grille brace. The ’40 Standard and Pickup are different from the ’40 Deluxe because the hood shapes are different.
The ’41 Pickup and Sedan Delivery brace is a can of worms as Ford offered the V-8 as well as a brand new 6
cylinder engine plus the 4 cylinder tractor engine was also available. You’re on your own with this one.
These are not available at this time, but ya just never know.....we might make them.

Unlike other auto makers who offered less choices for engine
options, Ford’s “4-popper” pickup was decorated with this
emblem on each hood side, mounted just beneath the blue
Ford oval. These emblems and the pickups they decorated are
now almost extinct, as the few survivors that lived into the
1950s were commonly converted to having V8 power plants.
