SkillCheck Online Testing Service Special Edition Newsletter Case Study – Managing Users A recent event was brought to our attention regarding unauthorized access to candidate information stored within the SkillCheck Online Testing Service worldwide scores database. Susan (not her real name) – a very experienced and well connected recruitment consultant ‐ had been given the “Administrator” login of her former employer’s SkillCheck Online Testing Service. Thus she had access to the entire candidate test results database, even after she left the company. Susan used this access to search for candidates with the intent of contacting them and making referrals and placements through her new employer – a competitor, as it happened. One candidate, who coincidentally happened to have been hired by Susan’s former employer as a new recruitment consultant, was contacted, much to the surprise of the “candidate”. The ensuing discussion between Susan and her former employer was less than pleasant and potentially could have led to an expensive and protracted legal case. The employer contacted us with this information. Within a few minutes, we had changed the login password for the “administrator” of their online account, thus eliminating any possibility of Susan gaining access in future. How to Prevent Unauthorized Access to your SkillCheck Online Testing Service It is vital that each employee who is authorized to use your SkillCheck Online Testing Service be set up as a “Testing User” under the “Manage Users” function (ADVANCED OPTIONS | MANAGE USERS). Several benefits accrue from taking this step; 1. The consultant set up as a sub‐user receives score reports for every candidate who completes tests issued by them. NB: It is recommended you choose the PDF report format, as shown below. Management is able to retrieve “metrics” on each authorized user’s activity over any time period, thus enabling management to better coach, train and develop effective, productive and profit‐generating consultants. A consultant who is processing more candidates will very likely have more completed tests over a set time period than a consultant processing and skill testing fewer candidates. Having a more extensive qualified candidate pool tends to enable a consultant to deliver more placements and thus more revenue and profit. 3. Candidates’ test results, and personal data is protected. If a consultant leaves your company, whether to work for a competitor or for any other reason, it is a simple matter of deleting their “Testing User” profile. NB: The candidate test results are still available in the online scores database. 4. Candidate confidentiality being protected can substantially reduce the risk of legal repercussions within the scope of the National Privacy Act (1988). Summary It is in the best interests of every SkillCheck Online Testing Service customer to ensure that if multiple staff members have access to the Online Testing service, that each of those individuals is set up as a “Testing User”.
